Mary Molyneaux’s mixed media paintings occupy the space between abstraction and representation. Multiple layers of acrylic, collage, and ink are applied. The result is the creation of subtle surfaces made up of soft colors, vibrant shapes and lines. The “Channeling Romare” series is a tribute to the collage artist, Romare Bearden. This is a multiple layered collage with a figure set against a background, suggesting a garden scene. Molyneaux has been a practicing artist for over forty years working in a variety of media including 2- and 3-D forms. She received her bachelors’ degree at Central Missouri University. Further study was completed at the University of Tennessee, Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, and Pratt Fine Arts Center. Molyneaux will have a solo show at Acme Gallery in Anacortes in May. In September she will show her work at The Shed Gallery in Georgetown.
