DESIGN VISION

We base a lot of emphasis to context based design philosophies, this project is tailored to perfect fit in terms of design and planning for the site and its spectacular backdrop of forestland. The design concept is the outcome of prioritizing the connection between nature and our residents. Spread over 96,800 square yards of land around an hour and half driving distance from Siliguri (prominent tourist destination), this development is envisaged as a second home concept at very affordable prices.

Intrigued by the panoramic view of Gorumara Forest Reserve and existing tea plantation within the site, we designed with the intention of maximizing views from our apartments and villas towards it.

The masterplan is designed in conjunction with nature where the entry experience begins with a nature interpretation center to showcase the importance of the local biodiversity and an entrance avenue overlooking the tea plantation which is retained untouched.

TEAM WORK

Worked as Project Lead under guidance of Head Architect and team of junior architects . ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

Initial Concept and Masterplan, Client Meetings and Presentations, Design Development to Construction Drawings.

The strategic radial planning ensures views from all balconies and common terraces without compromising on privacy by providing lavish courtyards between the buildings.

These courtyards are further connected to pedestrian trails that lead to various destination points like forest look- outs, tea garden decks and club house.

The road network is planned to segregate the pedestrian and vehicular, ensuring enjoyable walks around the campus.

INTERNATIONAL PLACEMENT PROGRAM, PHNOM PENH

Selected for Internship program by UNSW, funded by Design Tribe Projects. Internship at SA SA Art Projects in collaboration with Vann Molyvann Projects. Working with Artists and directors, along with Cambodian Students.

Studying an urban poor block in Phnom Penh to understand the community living and aftermath of Khmer rouge. and provide possible solutions to make life better in such neglected blocks. The plans on the right shows the living conditions of family in a small houses.

Pictures from experiences in Cambodia: Exploring the Chan Dom Dek Block, Interviewing locals, Curating Exhibition, Presenting to UNESCO, Cambodia.

Understanding Children’s Perspective in space design

This Board Game was designed by me as a mapping exercise for the community children to understand and explore their neighborhood. It was based on the interviews and research about spaces in the block that are used by children and how can we design safer places for children.

INDUSTRY

How can education, industry, and start-up companies all combine to provide an Affordable student housing

EDUCATION

HOUSING AS A START-UP

WIN WIN FOR ALL:

• Providing subsidised rents and job opportunities for students.

• Creating an asset for university to attract more students.

• Minimal market risks and assured returns to the start-up developer.

In this project we provide a start-up real estate developer (with an opportunity to collaborate with university and other start-up unions to create this affordable housing which would:

• Accommodation and co-working spaces to students and start-up owners.

• These start-up & industry spaces in the building would provide employment to the students.

Cuboid module is eroded in a way that it reacts to different levels of sunlight creating a site responsive form.

The gridded cuboid module creates an adaptive, repeatable building system that provides spatial flexibility and could be customised according to different site location and requirements.

GRID

Efficient Grid of 6.5x6.5m provides structural simplicity and flexibility in arrangement of spaces by combining vertically and horizontally, whist creating variability in design.

MODULAR

+ PRECAST

The grid becomes the formal identity of the building and renders it recognizable in its urban context.

The precast elements that fit in one frame to form a set of units.

KIT OF PARTS

The kit of parts that fits in this grid frame defines the function and quality of the space i.e, closed, flexible, balconies etc. .

RE-USED THE PARKING STRUCTURE ON SITE

ACADEMIC PROJECT

Masters semester-1

DESIGN CONCEPTS:

REUSING THE PARKING STRUCTURE: with the option of completely demoslishing the parking structure at the site and using a clean site, I choose to sculpt the exising structure in a way that the construction becomes sustainable. the ramps are retained for access to split levels, columns used as display, part of slab and walls retained.

STREET: Creating an Art’s Arcade at street level, which acts as a thoroughfare connecting two roads adjacent to site. This allows more people to come in the building and use the public, commercial exhibition spaces.

EYE LEVEL- from where people see the space.

Accessible from street to attract people and providing more activities at street level.

Arcade concept- Walkways, pedestrians, art displays, food and retail, workshops etc. all at street level.

Extension of future pedestrian civic link.
