Prototype for 15 minute neighborhood

Location : Nagpur, Maharashtra

Area : 2 sqkm block

The brief of the project was to make essential facilites available at a 15 minute walking distance. A block of Nagpur city has been developed by incorporating Indian culture and context. The project focuses on using elements of landscape architecture and urban design to make spaces healthy for residents. Public transportation is focused upon along with providing sustainable options like electric vehicle, electric shuttle and cycle track.

Site analysis

Stratergy while designing

This project initally entailed designing a cabin for the owners. while working on the planning they asked for a landscape plan and this is how the design started. Due to issues of theft and property damage, the cabin was designed using low cost materials. The main requirement of the client was to have a large porch and gathering space. While designing the landscape plan, the climatic condition and soil was taken into consideration. As different crops were planted during different seasons, the farmer helped us with the type of plants, trees and shrubs to include. Attention was given to provide fruit trees as they can be sold and used for personal use as well.

The project aims to design a skill development centre for women of minority communitites deproved of access to education and independence. Landscape has been used as a means to create calming as desired spaces.

Issues Women face in India

This results in most women to continue staying in abusive relationship and suffer mental trauma.
