FISCAL YEAR 2024 WAS MARKED BY BOTH TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY, BUT FROM THE HEIGHTS OF OUR JOY TO THE DEPTHS OF OUR STRUGGLE, PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON, DC (PPMW)HAS REMAINED LASERFOCUSED ON CARE, NO MATTER WHAT. THIS IMPERATIVE IS PERHAPS BEST REFLECTED IN THE WORDS OF PRESIDENT AND CEO DR. LAURA MEYERS, PH.D AND BOARD CHAIR

Q. PPMW strives to emphasize the importance of high-quality, compassionate health care, no matter what. Can you speak to some of the FY24 highlights of PPMW’s health services team?

LM: In FY24, our health services team exemplified the phrase “Care. No matter what.” We saw a marked increase in abortion patients this year — including many from southern states, like Florida. I’m exceedingly proud of our team for their excellent care and professionalism in managing this influx.

AG: As am I — especially so, given that this team provided over 27,000 appointments in FY24. And we can’t forget that our team also successfully implemented a new electronic health records system, which led to a staggering 11% decrease in appointment no-shows. On top of that, the team has maintained a steady schedule of vasectomy procedures, with 8-12 appointments monthly.

LM: While we’re talking numbers, we have to highlight that our care team administered over 45,000 STI tests, saw over 12,000 patients for contraceptive care, and provided more than 5,000 abortions, just to name a few of their impressive stats.

Q. The advancement of health equity is one PPMW’s highest organizational priorities. What did this look like in FY24?

LM: We’ve taken monumental measures to ensure that PPMW’s elite care is accessible to all patients in the DMV. These include moving forward with our plans to establish a PPMW health center in Northern Virginia, and preparing to deploy the Carol Whitehill Moses Mobile Health Center in communities throughout our service area.

AG: We also worked to expand our Abortion Access Fund, which has fully or partially subsidized abortion care expenses for over 2,000 patients so far. This coverage includes practical expenses such as transportation, food, and lodging. The evergrowing Abortion Access Fund is representative of our belief that no one should be denied the essential care they need.

Q. Beyond providing top-quality health care, PPMW is known to engage with communities throughout the DC metropolitan region in a number of ways. Could you speak to some of PPMW’s community engagement efforts in FY24?

LM: I’m so proud of our ongoing work to foster meaningful relationships with members of our communities.

Our brilliant education team continues to organize Shop Chats, a program which trains salon and beauty professionals on how to discuss reproductive health and rights with their clients and in which participants hold discussions on related issues affecting Black communities.

AG: The education team also continues to expand the Spill the Tea program, activating PPMW student ambassadors on college campuses to hold important discussions about HIV prevention. Another student-focused initiative is the Free Flow program, formerly known as the Period Project, which brings menstruation products to college campuses at no cost to students.

LM: On the policy and organizing front, our public affairs team continues to maintain a robust slate of programs to help protect and expand access to reproductive care. These include the Black Organizing Program, which works to uplift the social and political power of Black reproductive rights organizers in the DMV and Raíz, which centers Latine voices through community care events and skills-based training.

AG: Our team’s outreach also includes initiatives like Generation Action, a program helping college students develop the necessary skills for effective advocacy, which now boasts chapters at six colleges across the DC metropolitan region.

Plus, our Developing Leaders Program continues to flourish in teaching leadership skills to young professionals with a passion for reproductive health and rights, and our Ambassador Program prepares reproductive care champions of all ages to represent PPMW directly at events in our communities.

Q. Thank you for sharing these updates on PPMW’s efforts from FY24. Are there any parting words you’d like to share as we look ahead to FY25?

LM: Our doors are open. Our care continues.

AG: It’s been an honor to serve as Board Chair for PPMW, and I’m confident that our teams will continue to build on the achievements of FY24.

Our recruitment efforts prioritized reaching diverse candidates through the use of a plethora of platforms to ensure access to positions at all levels of the affiliate.

We continue to include and expand on equity-focused learning opportunities, including Understanding Race, Racism, and Anti-Racism in Practice, Appreciating the Many Forms of Diversity, and Invisible Disability to name a few.

PPMW participated in the Black Health Equity Initiative (BHEI) Learning & Action Network (LAN) and was subsequently a grant awardee. PPMW will join other Planned Parenthood affiliates and the BHEI to: — Set and track key performance indicators across the federation to help dismantle anti-Black racism.

— Dismantle policies, practices, and systems that perpetuate race-based inequities inside and outside of Planned Parenthood.

— Test and scale interventions that challenge anti-Black racism and white supremacy .

— Grow overall market share with a laser focus on Black women, girls, trans, and non-binary people.

— Document, monitor, and evaluate measurable impact to prove the undeniable value of high-quality, equitable sexual and reproductive health care care and information.

PPMW Employees WORKFORCE OVERVIEW As of December 31, 2024, PPMW employed a total of 121 full-time employees across all locations: •

Our workforce is diverse, spanning multiple generations, skill sets, and backgrounds. This diversity fuels our creativity, resilience, and agility in responding to both patient and market demands.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING In 2024, we focused on investing in leadership development through offering the SHRM People Manager Qualification (PMQ). The program is offered in cohorts and allows managers to work together while delving into topics that will enhance their knowledge and expertise. Upon successful completion, managers and supervisors will be awarded the PMQ certification.

Additionally, PPMW relaunched its required training program using the Planned Parenthood and Human Resources Information System platforms, which has helped improve overall completion rates, thereby improving training compliance across the affiliate. Over 95% of employees participated in structured training programs, equipping them with skills essential to current and future success.

PPMW Employees EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND RETENTION We are proud to share that our most recent Press Ganey Employee Engagement Survey demonstrated a positive trend in employee satisfaction. Overall satisfaction levels increased by 0.16 points, reflecting our ongoing efforts to create a supportive and engaging work environment.

Scores are based on a five-point scale, where 5 represents the highest level of satisfaction. Below is an example of areas for improvement:

PPMW is committed to listening to employee feedback and using these insights to further enhance the employee experience. Our people are our most valuable asset, and we will continue to prioritize their growth, engagement, and well-being.

As always, we continue to lift up the Planned Parenthood ethos of "in this together" and uphold the values and standards that guide our behavior — shaping how we treat one another, our patients, and everyone we encounter in our work.

BLACK HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVE In late November 2023, PPMW hosted the Black Health Equity (BHE) team, to facilitate conversation on Planned Parenthood’s role in advancing Black health equity. In 2024, PPMW was awarded a general operating grant to support the organization's readiness efforts and position itself to be a participant in the Black Health Equity Initiative in FY25.

LOOKING AHEAD In 2025, we will continue investing in our people through expanded learning programs, enhanced well-being initiatives, and a sustained commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and access. Our goal remains clear: to empower our employees to thrive, cultivate a workplace where everyone feels valued, and drive PPMW forward — now and into perpetuity.

EPIC HAS BEEN EPIC PPMW went live with Epic and MyChart on November 1, 2023, and we are already seeing impressive results for patient access and experience: •

Our no-show rate has dramatically decreased from nearly 50% pre-Epic to 11% post-Epic. This is largely due to the convenience of being able to cancel appointments via text. Additionally, we have activated a new feature called FastPass, allowing patients to accept an earlier appointment if one becomes available before their scheduled date.

The time from when a patient walks in the door to when they are registered for their appointment has improved from 9 minutes to 5.5 minutes.

Our providers are able to review lab results and send them to patients faster than ever before, with nearly all lab result reviews happening same-day.

We are still experiencing high enrollment in the Epic patient portal, MyChart. Our staff have become proficient in using the system and are very comfortable with it. Our revenue cycle processes have been improved, leading to stability in our third-party collections and self-pay payments. Lastly, we are continuing to gather important data to help us make informed business decisions.

The Carol Whitehill Moses Mobile Health Center going into service in early 2025 Med•i•cal De•sert med k( )l de’z rt noun a term used to describe regions where the population has inadequate access to health care.

Our first-ever mobile health care unit will launch this winter – traveling directly to patients in local medical deserts. The Mobile Health Care Unit will offer a broad range of essential health services, including birth control, STI testing and treatment, UTI treatment, gender-affirming care, pregnancy testing, options counseling, and preventive care, like physicals and screenings. Your support will ensure that everyone who needs care can access it.

Health Training Institute The newly expanded Health Training Institute (HTI) at PPMW is poised to make high-quality, robust sex education more readily available — and not just in the DC region, but across the nation.

The purpose of the Health Training Institute is to “train the trainers,” says PPMW Health Training Manager Jenny Marten. Marten leads the Institute and has spearheaded its expansion. She explains that the program’s objective is to train youth-serving professionals on how to implement comprehensive sex education.

Spill the Tea PPMW Spill the Tea is an interactive initiative designed to spark meaningful conversations. College student ambassadors in our Spill the Tea program are young Black women connecting with fellow students about issues affecting Black health equity. Their mission is to reshape discussions on HIV/STI prevention and stigma, and build knowledge. Since its start, students have been trained and have hosted events at local college campuses, reaching over 100 students.

We are excited to announce the commencement of the second cohort of the Spill the Tea College Ambassador Program. We anticipate selecting 10 dynamic students to join the program.

Our Public Affairs Team continues the fight for health equity through advocacy groups and programs fighting for reproductive rights. The Black Organizing Program (BOP) and Raiz, the Developing Leaders Program (DLP), the Ambassador Program, and six Generation Action chapters in the DC region are some of the transformative programs serving members of our community ages 16 - 65 and beyond.

Generation Action At the University of Maryland the Pro-Choice Terps hosted a “condom and candy crawl,” an abortion care package making event for out of state patients, and a holiday party featuring a repro film screening.

The University of Mary Washington students are finalizing details to become an official PPGen group on campus.

American University raised over $1k from a single pizza fundraiser event and continues having routine repro-focused events, building their on-campus presence.

Howard University turned out for Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA)’s “I’m For” activations in response to the False Claims Act (FCA) case and continues coordinating sexual education events for their student body.

George Mason University students were consistently showing up for Planned Parenthood Advocates for DC, Maryland & NoVa (PPADMV) and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia (PPAV)'s Virginia election efforts all throughout October and November.

PPMW recently absorbed H*yas for Choice (HFC), led by students on Georgetown University's campus, as a new PPGen chapter! This marks six Generation Action campuses for PPMW. Page 14

Public Affairs Developing Leaders Ambassador Program

In December 2023, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Developing Leaders Program (DLP) with the 2023 DLP Cohort.

This year's cohort shattered records, raising an unprecedented $14,000 while graciously dedicating their time to numerous community events. In recognition of their recordbreaking fundraising, each cohort member was inducted into PPMW's Liberty Circle fundraising program.

DLP continues to thrive, with nearly 100 applications received for this year's cohort.

We are excited to welcome a new group of highly driven people who are passionate about protecting and expanding access to care. This orientation marks the beginning of another year of leadership development, capacity building, and community empowerment. The newest Core Team will join us at this year’s gala.

The culmination of the 2023 Ambassador Program was marked by a graduation ceremony in November. 40 PPMW ambassadors dedicated their time and efforts, generously volunteering for more than 50 events, collectively contributing over 250 volunteer hours throughout their 6 month program year. We take immense pride in having such dedicated volunteers who made a remarkable impact.

Our Ambassadors have been busy driving advocacy and engagement throughout the DMV. In August, they supported VA events : “Plant Parenthood”, BOP/ Raiz Doula Support, and Rock on for Reproductive Freedom, along with canvassing in Manassas. In Maryland, they participated in Greenbelt's Labor Day Festival. Additionally, teams engaged in wheatpasting around DC to fight abortion stigma, and further canvassing efforts throughout the fall.

BOP & Raiz In November 2023, BOP (Black Organizing Program) and Raiz hosted a Shop Chat and Cafecito to inform DMV-based Black and Latine communities of the False Claims Act case and how they can support Planned Parenthood. This virtual event included two panelists from PPFA who not only discussed the case, but also how it would impact our communities. After learning about the case, folks were invited to sign the “I support Planned Parenthood” / “Yo Apoyo a Planned Parenthood” petitions, sign-up to be a storyteller, and register for other PPMW programs.

Year-End Mailing PPMW raises approximately half of our annual fundraising goal in Q1 each fiscal year. The “year end push” is extremely important to us hitting our fundraising revenue goals. This past year, our Development team also launched the End of Year Chase Program, through which our annual fund managers reached out to unassigned and lapsed donors to support PPMW. The outreach yielded $312,065 from 187 donors or 48% of those contacted.

PPMW Development has raised $13.6M of the $20M towards the Fight Forward Campaign as of September 2024. We have made great progress on these goals and are looking to raise the remaining funds over the next two years to include:

Beth hosted an inviting gathering of 12 new supporters interested in the programs and future success of PPMW. PPMW’s Sarah Dwyer shared information on her work as a patient navigator. An energized crowd of nearly 500 reproductive freedom supporters gathered on Saturday, September 28, for the 2024 PPMW Impact Gala at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, DC. Health equity champions who spoke to the crowd included award-winning author, artist, and activist Common, Maryland First Lady Dawn Moore, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Chair Jolene Ivey of the Prince George’s County Council, and PPFA President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson.
