OCTScanner OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomographer) is a new and highly advanced screening system to check for potentially serious eye conditions. It is suitable for all ages and is totally painless.

As a practice we are proud of our state of the art optical facilities and we are constantly striving to offer our patients the latest technological innovations in Optometry and OCT represents the cutting edge of diagnostic equipment. We will be offering you the opportunity to have an OCT scan when we send out your regular eye examination reminder or when you check in for your appointment.

What does OCT involve?

The OCT scan is a completely painless, non-contact procedure which is carried out by one of our Optometrists or Optical Assistants. The scan only takes a few minutes and involves staring for a few seconds in different directions whilst the OCT scans each of your eyes in turn. Once the scan is complete the Optometrist will show you the results and explain what the scan shows.

What does the OCT Scan show us?

The scan allows our Optometrist to clearly see any abnormalities or irregularities in the macula and enables the diagnosis of potentially serious conditions at a very early stage. Eye conditions such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration along with diabetes can be picked up before other symptoms appear.

How often do I need a scan?

Similar to a normal eye examination, we would recommend that you have an OCT scan every 2 years or more regularly if your Optometrist advises. If you are a new patient to us, or have never had a scan, we would suggest that you have one at your eye examination appointment so we have a benchmark to work from for the future.

Judith Plant Judith has been with Crompton Opticians for 16 years. She qualified with a BSc( Hons) from UMIST in 1986. Judith then went onto complete her MSc at Bradford University.

Joanne Johnson We are pleased to welcome Joanne to the practice this year after 17 years with Conlon Opticians. The experience she gained over these 17 years will be a valuable asset to the practice.

Away from work Judith enjoys cycling, reading and walking.

She qualified as a Dispensing Optican in 2001.

Dr Laura Knowles

In her spare time she likes to socialise with family and friends and plays the cornet in her local brass band.

Kate Ridley Kate went to APU in Cambridge and was awarded a Degree in Optical Management. After doing her pre registration qualified as a Dispensing Optician and then not long after that as a Contact Lens Optician.

After traveling around the world and doing work experience in an Opticians in Sydney, Australia, Kate decided to go back to University and study Optometry in Bradford.

She did her pre registration year in an opticians in Bournemouth, where she met her husband. Kate decided to move back up north about 7 years ago and has been working at Crompton’s since.

David Cross David is a newcomer to the practice of 2 years now.

Qualified in Optometry in 1991 after studying at Aston University in Birmingham.

Dave was a Senior Optometrist for a high street Pharmaceutical Chain and spent 10 years as a domiciliary Optometrist conducting eye examinations at home for people unable to get out unassisted.

Outside work David manages Junior Club Cricket Teams and plays the odd round of golf with his teenage son and provides a Taxi Service for his netball fanatic daughter.

PRACTICE MANAGER Jo Baren Jo is our Practice Manager and Dispensing Optician and qualified from Bradford College in 1994 with FBDO CERT OD. She enjoys travel golf, music and fitness.

RECEPTION STAFF Lisa Higgins Lisa is a valuable member of our Reception Staff. She is always on hand to help our clients in any way she can. Lisa is a bit of a foodie and also enjoys football, fell walking and travel when away form work.

Linda Bolton Linda is a loyal member of our Reception Staff who has worked for Crompton Opticians for almost 10 years. When not at work enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Linda is also a keen walker.

Christine Fagan Christine joins Crompton Opticians after 10 Years Service with Conlons Opticians. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family & friends, socialising and entertaining.

Olivia Gorton Olivia is our newest member of the team bringing with her many years of customer care and is a familiar face within the community.

In her spare time Olivia enjoys spending time with her family, her two beautiful girls and socialising with friends.

HEARING AID CONSULTANTS David Leigh David trained and qualified as a Hearing Aid audiologist with Amplivox + Ultratone in 1998.

During the last 15 yrs he has had experience as a Branch Manager in Nottingham and Liverpool, working with all types of hearing aid technology and their fitting and aftercare.

David has also worked in GP surgeries.

In his free time David enjoys all types of fishing, walking and spending time with his young family.
