Get ready for the future More than a craft

No surprises

Nowadays, automotive refinish is about much more than providing an attractive paint job. As an automotive paint specialist, your customers are continually increasing in size and are now making greater demands in terms of delivery performance, short lead times and low prices.

The thinking behind PPG’s MVP concept is based on LEAN principles and is combined with our market-leading IT systems for process optimisation, so you always have the KPIs you need to be able to optimise your workshop together with us.

So it is no longer enough to focus purely on the level of craftsmanship provided by your company. If you want to be able to satisfy your customers’ requirements, in addition to the high level of quality you must also be sure that your workshop runs as efficiently as possible, keeping productivity high and costs low.

At the same time, there are no surprises at PPG – the MVP concept is an integral part of the way we work and comes at no extra cost. This is because we are not satisfied until we have ensured, through our mutual close partnership, that your business is ready to be among the winners of the future.

At PPG, we are ready to equip you for this reality. As our partner, you will gain access to our MVP concept, which gives you the necessary tools to ensure that your workshop is prepared for the new reality.

PPG Technical courses T

Introduction to PPG’s Technical courses

The cornerstone of any craftsman’s business is the employees’ technical skills. The employees’ levels of craftsmanship determine the quality and repair lead times the company can deliver and, in the final analysis, also the bottom line – regardless of whether you are a bricklayer, carpenter or automotive paint technician. Employees who know the techniques of their trade, who are up to date with new trends, products, materials and repair processes, should therefore be a high priority for all paintshops, so as to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction

PPG Management courses L

Introduction to PPG’s management courses

Is management important? Being a manager in an automotive paintshop today requires entirely different skills compared with just 5–10 years ago. The customers have become much bigger, and they will challenge you to deliver low prices and quick repair times even more so than before. These new challenges also have an impact on the manager role. To be able to meet the new requirements from customers, it is important that you have a range of tools to ensure your company is run as efficiently and cheaply as possible. This is

the only way you will ensure that your workshop will make money, even with the increased level of competition. At the same time, as a manager you must be able to guide your employees safely through the changes needed to achieve the desired improvements in workshop efficiency.

The central motivation Another central skill in the currently changing aftermarket is to ensure that you can motivate your employees, so that they always give their best. Being able to do this will ensure your workshop will be the one to retain the

industry’s most expert employees – and attract more of the same type. On the following pages, you can read about the courses we at PPG have tailored for you to properly ensure that your workshop is among those that will win customers in the future.

of the future L1 Paintshop with LEAN and MVP Course objective: You will become familiar with LEAN, one of the most widely recognised analysis and working methods for optimising companies that work with production processes. This LEAN course has been carefully adapted to the requirements and challenges that paintshops face. You can therefore be sure that the course is relevant for you and can easily be transferred to your day-to-day work. In order to fully benefit from the tools that are introduced, the workshop’s employees must enrol on the course “Working methods of the future with LEAN & MVP”.

Benefit:

First part of PPG’s management courses

It also shows you how greater insight will allow you to identify various alternatives for splitting up the work processes in the workshop.

Understanding paradigm change: What are paradigms and how are they relevant for your business? What significance does this have for you as a manager, and what happens when they change?

Basic principles of LEAN for the aftermarket: Learn how you can measure your workshop’s efficiency and how you can easily find the lowest hanging fruit in the hunt for a more efficient repair process.

The basic LEAN tools and KPIs: Here, you will be presented with a number of simple tools for identifying bottlenecks in your workshop, which you can then take home and use to optimise your day-to day work.

Process design & resource planning: Find out how to identify redundant or inappropriate sub-processes in your workshop. You will then be able to develop new, better and more appropriate work processes.

Organising the workshop according to the 5S principles: Far too much time in day-to-day workshop work is spent looking for tools. With 5S, you learn how your workshop can gain from having the right things in the right place.

Implementation & change management: Changes in the employees’ working day can be difficult to adjust to. Learn how you can introduce changes in the workshop and ensure that the employees work with you and can see how they benefit from the changes.

Color Processes S3 Digital with LINQ Course objective:

Benefit:

Obviously, one of the key details of the paintwork of cars is to identify the right shade. The course covers chromatology and the physics of colour and how this can be used in practice for evaluating variants. We also teach the use of PPG’s colour tools, as well as the specific information required when using the PaintManager system and the Digimatch™ spectrophotometer. The course will focus on PPG’s Prime and Variant Colour Match System.

Participants will gain a great understanding of colour physics and how variations in light can affect your choice of variant. Participants will be able to use this understanding, combined with PPG‘s Digital Colour Tools, to compensate for variations in light and make adjustments to each variant code to match the specific repair and minimise the risk of errors.

Furthermore, training also includes different methods of working to ensure you are able to use the systems as efficiently as possible.

Who should enrol: The course is for all painters who wants a greater understanding of colours physics, variant assessment and selection, colour adjustments and correct spraying techniques for 3-layer refinishes.
