AISECT ACADEMY FOR LIVELIHOOD AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING
As India's economy grows, there is an urgent need to produce workforce of international standards to meet industry's rising demand for skilled manpower. The new economy demands new trades and new skills and competencies. The traditional skill set is fast becoming obsolete and the world is looking at India to cap the skills gap in all sectors. However, whereas on one hand, less than 40 percent of India's graduates find employment, Industry has a limited involvement in the management of vocational training on the other. This becomes a key constraint in matching skills between demand and supply. The AISECT Academy for Livelihood & Vocational Training aims at bridging this gap by l
Developing skilled manpower through diversified courses to meet the requirements of mainly the unorganised sector
l
Instilling self-employment skills in people through a large number of self employment oriented courses
Through its industry-matched and need-based designed courses, AISECT Academy for Livelihood & Vocational Education strives to enhance individual employability, reduce the mismatch between demand and supply of skilled manpower in the context of higher global and domestic demands in emerging economic scenario. 2.5 WHAT IS THE AISECT CREDIT SYSTEM? AISECT follows the `Credit System’ for its programs. Each credit in our system is equivalent to 30 hours of study comprising all learning activities (i.e.. reading and comprehending the printmaterial, attending counselling sessions, writing assignment and practicals responses). Thus, a four-credit course involevs 120 hours of study. This helps the learner judge the academi effort required to successfully complete a course. 1 Credit

The IGNOU Statute
bXuw vf/kfu;e The IGNOU Act and Statutes delineate under THE FIRST SCHEDULE (Section 4), THE OBJECTS OF THE UNIVERSITY that: “The University shall (a) strengthen and diversify the degree, certificate and diploma courses related to the needs of employment and necessary for building the economy of the country on the basis of its natural and human resources; (f) provide education and training in the various arts, crafts and skills of the country, raising their quality and improving their availability to the people”. The Certificate, Diploma and Associate Degree programmes offered through the Community Colleges were framed by the various academic and administrative bodies of the University following the Act and Statutes. While formulating and implementing this scheme, the University has also taken into consideration the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission, National Skills Mission, the Planning Commission (11th plan) and the Committees constituted by the University Grants Commission for the 2-year Associate Degree programme and the Community Colleges. IGNOU Act, 1985, Section 2(d) provides for establishing Colleges, maintaining academic institutions as Colleges or admitting Colleges to the privileges of the University for realising such objectives. The award of the 2-year Associate Degree is by a credit accumulation process, wherein a learner through successful completion of several stand-alone modules, gets a Certificate (12-16 credits), Diploma (24-32 credits) and finally an Associate Degree (64 credits).
