Impact Report l 2025

Beyond building - our year of positive impact

Our Mission

Founded in 1973 within the community architecture movement, Poynton Bradbury has long championed socially valuable and environmentally responsive design.

Over the past 50 years, we’ve collaborated with communities, local authorities and organisations to deliver projects that prioritise social wellbeing, environmental stewardship and long-term value. Our portfolio includes work in healthcare, education and housing—sectors where architecture can make a real difference in people’s lives.

These principles are deeply embedded in the way we work, and becoming a certified B Corp reflects our enduring commitment to aligning business with purpose.

Our Verified B Corp Score

We are very proud to have achieved an overall impact score of 120.3, making us the 5th highest scoring employee-owned architecture practice in the UK.

Becoming certified is just the first step on our journey of continuous improvement, putting people and the environment first - using our business as a force for good.

Following this, we have worked hard to rebuild our team and aim to come back more resilient in 2025.

Bodmin Care Home

Human-centred design for connected living

Construction of a new 63-bed residential care home with thoughtfully designed communal facilities which encourage residents to engage in group activities and form meaningful relationships. Widened corridors and pathways become social spaces, with seating areas that encourage spontaneous conversation, fostering a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

Honeygar

Farm

Research rooted in reuse

Honeygar Farm is the centrepiece of Somerset Wildlife Trust’s first ‘wilded’ site, aiming to become an internationally recognised hub for research and innovation in peatland restoration. Situated in the Somerset Levels, this former dairy farm will evolve into a multi-purpose facility with visitor amenities, teaching spaces, research labs, accommodation and exhibition areas.

Stoke House St Ia Church

A place to stay, a chance to rebuild

Refurbishment and reconfiguration works to a Grade II listed building to be used as a homeless shelter, comprising 6no twobed shared apartments. The scheme forms part of a broader housing initiative aimed at delivering 22 affordable homes for individuals at risk of homelessness, contributing to a long-term strategy for inclusive, supportive housing within the community.

Making sacred space accessible to all

St Ia Church, a Grade I listed medieval church built in 1410 as a Chapel of Ease, is located in the heart of the St Ives Conservation Area. The works focus on enhancing both accessibility and functionality while preserving the church’s historical significance, including the creation of an accessible main entrance.

The Future

Looking ahead to the coming year, we remain committed to the full spectrum of the B Corp agenda. In particular, we will be focusing on environmental sustainability - an area where we believe we can make the most meaningful impact.

This will involve ongoing improvements to our own working environments in St Ives and Exeter, as well as ensuring that sustainability is central to our project delivery and the advice we provide to clients.

Our long-term vision for the practice is to continue growing as a socially and environmentally responsible business - one that contributes positively to people, place and planet.

As we move forward, we reaffirm our values and our belief in architecture as a tool to help create a better, more equitable and more sustainable world.

What We Will Do Next

• Launch our ‘Social Value Guide’ to help educate our staff and clientele on the potential of positive impact

• Continue to monitor and aim to reduce our practice carbon footprint

• Electric car initiative for employees

• Increase the use of feedback surveys to monitor client satisfaction and inform our approach

• Continue to nurture, develop and leverage the additional skills and expertise within our practice to broaden our service offerings

• Encourage employees to utilise their annual wellbeing and volunteering allowances
