NOTICE OF HEARINGS
The Powhatan County Board of Equalization will hold hearings pursuant to Section 58.1-3378 of the Code of Virginia – 1950, as amended, for the purpose of equalizing real estate assessments and for hearing complaints of alleged irregularities due to lack of uniformity or error in acreage. Upon hearing such complaints, either oral or written, the board will give consideration AND INCREASE, DECREASE, OR AFFIRM SUCH REAL ESTATE ASSESSMENTS. Before a change is granted, the taxpayer, or his agent, must overcome a clear presumption in favor of the assessment. The taxpayer or agent must provide substantial evidence that the property is not uniform with other similar properties or prove that the property is assessed in excess of its fair market value.
