MEETINGS:

AAAP 68 th Annual Meeting, Portland, Ore., Hilton Portland Downtown, July 28-31, 2025.

Date association established: 1957

Number of members: 1,051

Number of other members: 224 associate members; 482 full members, 25 life members, 149 retired members, and 171 student members.

VISION:

AAAP will be the premier organization that advances science-based knowledge, expertise, and education on poultry health, welfare, and food safety to provide member value and stakeholder trust.

MISSION:

AAAP facilitates member collaboration to advance science-based knowledge, expertise, and education on poultry health, welfare, and food safety.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

The AAAP has been an organized group since 1957. It was launched as a national organization for veterinary practitioners, diagnosticians, researchers, and students interested in poultry health and medicine. With annual meetings involving both national and international members, interested individuals come together to discuss poultry diseases and further advance the field of poultry medicine. There are at least three areas of accomplishment, each of which is embodied in the original set of objectives. First, AAAP has advanced the profession, especially through its educational and scientific activities. Second, the AAAP membership has established a scientific and technical resource to serve government, the poultry industry, the world, and each other, through a well-established network of contacts. Third, the AAAP has undoubtedly transformed the lives of many members by encouraging their careers and by providing a nurturing framework to help each person realize his or her potential. It has been often said that the AAAP is a truly “special” organization – one that engenders loyalty and

respect that is uncommon measure compared to other professional groups. How else can one explain the countless numbers of volunteer hours over a half century that has made the AAAP what it is today? In 2007 celebrating 50 years, AAAP published “AAAP- The First 50 Years 1957-2007” prepared by the AAAP History Committee and edited by John Dunn. In 2017, the AAAP published a sequel “Celebrating Sixty Years 1957-2017” also edited by John Dunn. Both books are available for purchase on the AAAP website.

MISSION:

The objectives of the Hen Council are to study fowl processing, identify research needs, and recommend speakers and activities to the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s board of directors. The council helps establish specifications for fowl products and helps identify marketing opportunities.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Successfully lobbied the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service for an annual purchasing program of hen meat for its cooked diced meat program, as opposed to the prior model of invitation-bid-award period to period.

Worked with AMS to eliminate the addition of sodium to the cooked diced product line; therefore, keeping a high quality, minimally processed product going to school children across the country.

Worked with AMS to open more invitations for bids for cooked diced hen meat, alleviating some supply pressures.

MEETINGS:

2025 NTF Annual Convention, Feb. 19-22, 2025, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Date association established: 1940 Number of members: 300 company members throughout the turkey industry.

MISSION:

The National Turkey Federation (NTF) is the national advocate for America’s turkey farmers and producers, raising awareness for its members’ products while strengthening their ability to profitably and safely deliver wholesome, high-quality and nutritious food to consumers worldwide. NTF is the sole national trade association exclusively representing the turkey industry; its members account for more than 95 percent of all U.S. turkey production.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

• NTF spearheads the industry response to significant animal health challenges such as the ongoing outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) that began in 2022, avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), reovirus and more.

• The NTF Foundation launched its

Reovirus Project to provide a financial reward for the development and successful marketing of a diagnostic tool and/or vaccine that aids in reducing the impact of reovirus on the industry.

• NTF hosts the industry’s premiere event, the NTF Annual Convention. Members gather in-person for educational seminars covering key issues impacting the industry, engaging guest speakers and networking opportunities. In 2024, more than 560 attendees joined NTF in Austin, Texas.

• NTF has presented the National Thanksgiving Turkey to the President of the United States for 76 years. Since the first presentation in 1947 with President Harry Truman, the annual presentation has become a highly anticipated tradition in Washington, signaling the unofficial beginning of the holiday season and providing the President and the nation an opportunity to reflect publicly on the meaning of Thanksgiving and the bounty of

American agriculture.

• NTF continues to execute the industry’s marketing programs, Turkey Smoke and Serve Turkey. These innovative programs are aimed at educating and increasing consumption of turkey through barbecue and recipe creation. Turkey Smoke has had a strong presence in the competition barbecue space and festivals for the last 7 years, including the annual American Royal World Series of Barbecue competition and the Q BBQ Festivals. Serve Turkey campaigns are powered through social media and online paid advertising.
