A CCRC (also called Life-Care Facilities or Communities) generally offers a contract that covers a continuum of care, including access to housing, services, and health care for more than one year, or the balance of one’s life. It is a wise idea to move into a CCRC sooner rather than later, as most require that new residents live independently when they first move in.

Medicaid will pay for certain health services and nursing home care for older people with low incomes and limited assets. The place you choose should facilitate life at a level of independence that is comfortable for you or for your loved one.

PARKS & ATRACTIONS CYPRESS CREEK GREENWAY The Cypress Creek Greenway Project is underway and will ultimately create a continuous 40-mile greenbelt along Cypress and Little Cypress Creeks. The greenway will feature a multi-use trail system that will pass through parks and link to trails that extend into communities. In addition, the Bayou Preservation Association (BPA) is leading the effort on Cypress Creek to develop a paddling trail that will extend 30 miles.

100 ACRE WOOD PRESERVE 100 Acre Wood Preserve contains nearly two miles of trails through rolling, forested terrain that connect with the nine-mile Cypress Creek Mountain Bike trail system in northwest Harris County. The preserve currently features a one-mile, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible paved trunk line trail that extends from the existing Cypresswood Hike & Bike Trail at Cypress Creek and Jones Road to the YMCA facility at SH 249.

BANE PARK Bane Park is a 18.2-acre facility with barbecue grills, picnic pavilions, picnic tables, two lighted ball fields, a five-acre wheelchair-accessible fishing lake, gazebo, horseshoe pits, paved walking trail, playground, rock climbing wall, sand volleyball court, splash pad, and rest room facilities.

BURROUGHS PARK Experience the lush landscape, winding trails, and lakefront views at this 320-acre splendid park in Tomball. Amenities at this facility include sports fields, a seven-acre fishing lake, five playgrounds, over eight miles of nature trails, picnic areas, an observation deck and boardwalk, rest room facilities, a dog park, and an award-winning barbecue pavilion that seats over 250 people.

COLLINS PARK Collins Park is a 55-acre facility with five lighted softball fields, four lighted baseball fields, one unlighted soccer field, one sand volleyball court, two playgrounds, a skate park, nature trails, picnic tables,

barbecue grills, rest room facilities, a canoe launch, and limited access to fishing along Cypress Creek.

DENNIS JOHNSTON PARK Dennis Johnston Park is a 45-acre facility with a pavilion and picnic tables, a small pond, pergola, walking trails, a butterfly and humingbird garden, and access to Spring Creek. Also, the park is home to Big Stone Lodge, which is a shared use facility that serves as the Parks Department administrative headquarters and a Precinct 4 community center.

DOSS PARK Doss Park is a 33-acre facility with five lighted softball fields, two lighted tennis courts, three pavilions, batting cages, picnic tables, barbecue grills, a playground, walking trails, and rest room facilities.

JESSE H. JONES PARK & NATURE CENTER Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center is a premier 312-acre Harris County Precinct 4 nature preserve open daily to visitors free of charge. The park features a variety of plant and wildlife species, white sand beaches along Spring Creek, swamps and sloughs with century-old cypress trees, and a pristine floodplain located in a hardwood and pine forest. All features are accessible by over eight miles of paved, handicap-friendly pedestrian trails and several unpaved primitive trails. The Spring Creek Greenway, with over 12 miles of paved trail system along Spring Creek, is also accessible from the park’s Judy Overby Bell Trail.

KICKERILLO-MISCHER PRESERVE Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve is an 80-acre property featuring Marshall Lake, which spans approximately 40 acres, plus a staff building, paved roads and parking lots, restroom facilities, and 1.7 miles of trails.

LINDSAY/LYONS PARK AND SPORTS COMPLEX Lindsay/Lyons Park and Sports Complex is a 136-acre facility with 10 lighted baseball fields and four lighted softball fields, two

MERCER BOTANIC GARDENS The arboretum and botanic gardens are divided by Aldine Westfield Road. The east side also has an extensive walking trail system, a Remembrance Walk for memorials and honorariums, ponds, a visitors’ center, courtyard plaza, plus much more.

MEYER PARK Meyer Park is a 180-acre facility with 26 soccer fields (ten are lighted), two unlighted softball fields, a basketball court, barbecue pavilion, gazebo, paved trails, nature trails, duck pond*, a three-acre fishing lake, picnic tables, barbecue grills, two age-specific playgrounds, 15 exercise stations, recycling bins, and rest room facilities.

MATZKE PARK Matzke Park, a 19.4-acre facility, includes a multiuse trail with water fountains, rest room facilities, one cricket field, an all-inclusive barrier-free playground, two picnic pavilions, one gazebo, and a butterfly and sensory garden.

SPRING CREEK GREENWAY Explore over 12 miles of natural forests and white sandy beaches along the creek from Harris County Precinct 4’s Dennis Johnston Park in Spring, Texas to Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center in Humble, Texas. Along the way, stop in for a picnic by Hart Lake at the 380-acre Pundt Park or discover local wildlife and plant species at the 120-acre Stahl Preserve. Also nestled between Pundt Park and Jones Park is Carter Park, a 115-acre facility featuring a canoe launch, a 12-lane archery shooting range with Olympic-level target distances, and nature trails for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
