RANGES FOR 2018
that it has awarded £33,312 in funding to Lifecentre to provide a counselling service to children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse and rape. THis is one of the largest donations the charity has received and means the charity is now funding six projects to the value of £230,000 to help transform young lives locally. Speaking of the award, Maribeth
Houlston, lead fundraiser at Lifecentre, said the grant was a life-changing sum of money, paramount to providing services to children. She said: “When young people experience the trauma of sexual abuse or rape, it can lead to breakdown in family relationships, mental distress and physical harm. "At our project, we provide the time and space to help these young people in
their journey to recovery. "We are grateful for this grant from BBC Children in Need, as it will help us continue this essential work." THe one-year grant will help fund qualified counsellors to facilitate a range of weekly, one to one therapeutic sessions aimed at improving the confidence and self-esteem of 173 children under the age of 18.
