Calls to use old Post Office SALE DEMANDS have been made for a major building in Bognor Regis town centre to be brought back to life. THe town’s former Post Office has stood empty for a year after the branch was moved into the nearby WH Smith outlet. Its ground floor has since stayed vacant apart from the small section used by the missed delivery service to the left of the entrance. A Post Office spokeswoman said the
company still rented the premises from Royal Mail, which has a sorting office and yard behind. But she said it had no short-term plans to make use of them. “THis is a Royal Mail building held on a long lease by Post Office. We’re looking at options, including sale or subletting. But there are no firm plans at the moment.” Town centre manager Toyubur Rahman
said he was regretted the continued lack of use of the site – the largest commercial building in the eastern end of the High Street. “I have to say I’m disappointed that they have not moved forward with any plans to re-use the building either for themselves or to let it out to a commercial tenant. “Speaking with some local businesses in that part of the town, it has had an
impact with footfall and passing trade. “THe Post Office was an anchor for that area and a commercial anchor that has similar pull would be the ideal replacement. “We are getting commercial enquiries all the time and that space does lend itself to a number of opportunities.
