CHICHESTER CINEMA AT NEW PARK

3 Faces is Out of Blue at New Park April 19-25

BANNED director Jafar Panahi’s funny, perceptive road movie, 3 Faces, looks at Iran’s difficult relationship with the film, the director’s fourth since incurring the wrath of the country’s officials and which could land him in jail. When a distressed young woman, Marziyeh, sends a video to him and to famous actress Behnaz Jafari, they drive to Marziyeh’s village near the Turkish border to investigate why she was banned by her parents to attend acting classes, wishing her to marry. Director Carol Morley’s new film, Out of Blue, stars Patricia Clarkson as Mike Hoolihan, a morose New Orleans police detective investigating the homicide of Jennifer Rockwell, an astrophysicist (Mamie Gummer). But can Mike navigate increasing existential questions to solve the mystery? THis stylish psychological whodunnit also stars the ubiquitous Toby Jones and James Caan. From Belgium comes the simply stunning Girl. Victor Polster plays Lara, and is outstanding as a trans 15-year-old auditioning for ballet school in Lukas Dhont’s tender, intense, emotional debut drama. Under the Silver

Lake, a very modern thriller comedy set in LA, follows Sam (Andrew Garfield) who is obsessed with a mysterious woman who vanishes, the film an homage to Hollywood history and classic films. It’s the day before Christmas and Holly Burns (Julia Roberts) gets the most unexpected surprise in Ben is Back. She returns home with her three children to find her 19-year-old son waiting on the doorstep. But he’s supposed to be in drug rehab. Lucas Hedges (Boy Erased) is Ben, the next 24 hours testing Holly and her family as new truths are revealed. Steel Country, an edge-of-the-seat revenge thriller, stars Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott as a local sanitation truck driver, Donald, who plays detective, obsessing with an investigation after a young boy’s body is found in a backward town in Trump’s backwater USA. Performance this week is THe King and I from the Palladium, this Tony-winning Rogers and Hammerstein musical starring Ken Wantanabe and Kelli O’Hara. Children will revel in Tim Burton’s live-action adventure of Dumbo. Dreamland is full of secrets. Starring Danny de Vito, Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton and Eva Green.
