A259 could get budget boost A MASSIVE increase in government roads funding could be used to improve a crucial road in Bognor Regis. West Sussex County Council's consultants have compiled a series of designs for major junctions along the A259 link to Littlehampton. THe drawings are due to be shown to
councillors in the area early next month before the final drawings are created. Paul Eagle, West Sussex County Council's principal transport planner, said the scheme might benefit from the Chancellor's £27 billion boost for strategic roads schemes announced hours earlier. "Hopefully, we will get some of that," told councillors on Wednesday. THe seven miles of the A259 between the two towns is seen by the government's

Department for Transport as part of the major road network because of its strategic importance. THe county council intends to seek funding from the National Roads Fund to improve the busy corridor after Transport for the South East identified the improvements as one of its top ten priority schemes. An outline business case for the funding should be submitted this spring. "THe consultants have been busy. THey
have produced lots of designs. "THey have created up to three designs for each junction. THey are being shown around county council officers for comments and officers at Arun District Council as well," said Mr Eagle. THe sites concerned include Comet Corner in Yapton and Middleton, Grevatts Lane in Climping and the Oystercatcher junction further east. Turn to page 5
