As the show grows and evolves, Agribition adds new programs, events and activities every year. Pro rodeo is back at Agribition! One of the biggest attractions each year at Agribition is the rodeo. For the past 11 years, Agribition has hosted a semi-professional rodeo and this year, professional rodeo returns! In partnership with the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, Agribition introduces the Agribition Pro Rodeo presented by Ford. To kick off four nights of rodeo, Wednesdayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s performance is free of charge, courtesy of The Mosaic Company. On Wednesday, Nov. 23, the doors to the Brandt Centre will open at 6 p.m., and the rodeo admission will be free of charge as long as there are seats available.

The event will feature 16 top athletes from each of the seven major events who will be divided into two pools of eight competing in two performances each. The roster will be based on the Pro Rodeo Canada standings at the end of the 2016 regular season and will be the inaugural event of the 2017 schedule. Top professional competitors from around the world will battle for $100,000 in prize money, giving rodeo fans in Saskatchewan high energy, actionpacked rodeo to enjoy! These events tend to be filled with more action, suspense, and danger. These events are all about scoring. The scoring ranges from 0-100 with 100 being a perfect ride. A great score is 85 points. Competitors must ride for eight seconds, with no extra points awarded for riding longer than eight seconds and zero points awarded for not reaching the eight seconds. Fifty per cent of the score comes from the animal and 50 per cent of comes from the cowboy. Cowboys are judged on their form and style while riding. Maintaining control is critical to a high score. Ladies Barrel Racing is a horse and rider race where competitors must circle three barrels set in a clover leaf pattern and the fastest time wins. Ladies receive a five second penalty for each barrel they knock over. Seldom can they win an event with this five second penalty. Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Tie-Down Roping all have something in common: competitors race against the clock. Like Barrel Racing, the fastest time wins. Penalties are a huge part in the timed events. Cowboys receive a 10 second penalty if they take an early head start. The 10 second penalty is a kin to getting a speeding ticket – those penalized stand little or no chance ROOKIE TIP to winning. Running with the

Bulls presented by Regina Nissan

One of Agribition’s newest events for 2016 will be ‘Running with the Bulls’ presented by Regina Nissan taking place on Saturday afternoon in the

Brandt Centre. Contestants will try their luck in the arena with the hopes of being named champion by the cheering crowd. Fifty to 75 daredevils will try to outrun nine bulls; three waves of three bulls. The contestant that does the best job staying on the rodeo dirt, as decided by the audience through a text-based voting system, will be named champion and win the $1,500 prize money. The Indigenous Pavilion is in its sixth year at Agribition. This pavilion educates and entertains visitors from around the world. The Indigenous Pavilion features a variety of informative, artistic and interactive displays, including: • Elder story telling • Skinning bison hide: interactive drum-making project • World champion hoop dancer • Teepee teachings • Mini teepee encampment: each teepee will include its own interactive activity • Contemporary and traditional craft-making including painting and bead work • Elders stations where traditional

stories about the importance of animals and other aspects of native culture are shared • Language stations where visitors learn a little about the diversity and elegance of First Nations language • This year the Pavilion will feature the Drum Project: a daily demonstration of bison hide skinning which, by the end of the week, will be transformed into a drum. The Indigenous Pavilion is located in the Cooperators Centre Arena 1 and is open Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Family Time There are events scheduled for the whole day at Agribition, and you wonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t want to miss a few of the crowd favourites! Wild Wool Ride: Come and watch kids take a ride on a sheep Wednesday to Saturday during the evening rodeo, sponsored by SaskEnergy. If you have children ages five to seven years old that would like to participate, stop by the C5 Rodeo booth in the Brandt Centre to enter the daily draw to participate. Thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s an additional chance to participate Saturday afternoon, sponsored by Southland Mall Family Ag Pavilion: Families can see and learn about some of their favourite farm animals. Kids have the opportunity through fun and interactive activities to learn the important role agriculture plays in the food industry. Sponsored by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. Indigenous Pavilion: The pavilion, which covers half a hockey arena, features a variety of informative, artistic and interactive displays, including: drummers and champion dancers, storytelling, craft makers, language stations and more! Full Contact Jousting: Once an afternoon performance, this is now an evening event! Come watch six knights compete in an authentic, unchoreographed, live jousting tournament on Tuesday evening in the Brandt Centre, sponsored by Regina Nissan. Milking Demonstration: The SaskMilk dairy display will include daily educational demonstrations that show the process followed for milking a cow using a milking machine and a discussion regarding the characteristics and performance of dairy cows. Around the display area there are also several interactive games. Face Painting: There will be face painting by Street Culture kids in the entrance of the Co-operators Centre on Saturday. *Check the schedule for the times of each event

FUN at Agribition! Education has been a cornerstone at Agribition for 31 years. As the gap widens on consumers understanding of modern agriculture, Agribition plays an important role helping the industry tell their story. Agribition offers an extensive education program including the Family Ag Pavilion, milking demonstrations, and the thinkAG Career and Education Expo as a means to educate others on agricultural practices and the food they eat. The education program has taught thousands of school children the importance agriculture plays in the food industry. Displays and activities are located in the Family Ag Pavilion in the Co-operators Centre and Ag-Ex Pavilion.

thinkAG Career and Education Expo Another integral part of the Education Program at Agribition is the thinkAG Career and Education Expo. On November 21-24, 2016, students in grades 9 through 12 will explore the endless career and entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture at the Expo. It will feature eight half-day workshops and seven interactive career exploration stations where students will learn about modern food production and discover the diversity of agriculturerelated post-secondary options.
