The forum will begin at 7 p.m. The forum is for local, Pender County candidates and voters. “This will give voters the opportunity to see and hear candidates on the Primary ballot,� said Post & Voice Publisher Andy Pettigrew.

and Dorothy Royal. “The Forum will give voters the opportunity to put a face with a name, and to hear candidates express their ideas on issues important to Pender County,� said Pettigrew. “I’ve also asked the candidates to make themselves available before and after the Forum to talk with voters.� Early voting will begin in Pender County April 19 at two locations – the Pender County Government

Remember, the Primary Election is party-based. That is, voters cast ballots according to their party affiliations. From Staff Reports Cypress Creek Renewables announced the launch of a partnership with Cape Fear Community College to invest in southeast North Carolina’s workforce. The initiative, which includes a $16,500 grant by Cypress Creek, will support students and instructors in Cape Fear Community College’s Sustainability Technologies program. North Carolina is a national leader in solar energy. Last year, the state topped the country in utility-scale solar installations, adding nearly 1,200 megawatts of new solar -enough energy to power about 200,000 homes. And, in 2017, the state added 500 new solar jobs. More than 7,600 North Carolinians are now employed by the solar industry. “The partnership between Cape Fear Community College and Cypress Creek Renewables is great for the 7th Congressional District,� said Congress-

The Reel Housewives of Topsail Island will hold its 8th annual bike ride April 7 at Soundside Park in Surf City. Participants will begin arriving around 7:30 a.m., and an opening ceremony and registration will begin at 8 a.m. The bike ride is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. An estimated 500 riders are expected to travel 13.1 miles to the north end of the island and then pedal back to the starting point. All funds raised will be donated to local women battling breast cancer. The event is one of the most well-attended on Topsail Island. Registration will still be
available the day of the event, but shirts are not guaranteed. The after party will be held at Gilligan’s. Lunch will be provided to riders, and there will be both a silent auction and live auction of items donated from local businesses. Entertainment will be provided by Fryd on the Boat at Gilligan’s after the ride beginning at noon and ending around 3 p.m. Annette Erny said that she felt led to start the event eight years ago. “God sent me to do this without a doubt,� began Erny. “I ran into a lot of brick walls, but every time I ran into a wall, it was like He sent me an answer to everything that got in my way. For one, I was having to deal with a lot of legality issues. An attorney, Dan Rizzo, called

me and said that if I would continue my work, he would handle all my legal work for free. There was always an answer to every wall I encountered.� Before starting the nonprofit, Erny had decided that she was going to ride her bicycle from one of the island to the other. She began talking about it to a small group of women, and it developed into an idea to do something for the community. Erny called one of the women who had been fighting breast cancer, Renee Callahan, and told her they were getting some women together to raise a little bit of money for her. “We ended up having 42 bike riders that
