Pender County Hurricane Florence update

Debris pickup ends, storm damage permit fee waiver extended From Staff Reports Pender County has ended hurricane debris pickup, according to Assistant County Manager Chad McEwen. McEwen says the county has turned the job over to the N.C. Department of Transportation, which maintains roadsides and ditches. “The NCDOT has inspected

the roadsides and released the county from the memorandum of agreement to pick up debris. The NCDOT said that additional debris should now be taken directly to an approved landfill and not placed on the side of the road. Any debris placed on the roadside at this point may be considered illegal dumping, McEwen said

Permit fee waver extended Hurricane Florence stor m damage permit fees will be waived until Mar. 18. Pender County Board of Commissioners approved the extension during their Feb. 4 meeting. The waiver was set to expire Feb. 7. “We understand the challenges

our homeowners are facing, said George Brown, Chairman of the Pender County Board of Commissioners. “Recovery takes time, and we are waiving permitting fees for all storm-related work. All complete applications received on or before Mar. 18, will be processed at no cost to Pender County residents.

Normal permit fees for all permits will resume on Mar. 19. Applications are available from the permitting offices in Burgaw, 805 S. Walker St. or in Hampstead at the Annex, 15060 US Hwy. 17. For further information contact the permitting department at 910-259-1518.
