Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes is never easy—especially when those shoes are high heels. But on Wednesday night in Downtown St. Cloud, a dedicated group of men did just that as part of the 7th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, turning heads and opening hearts during the city’s bustling Monthly Market.
Organized by Help Now of Osceola, the event gave men a powerful way to raise awareness about domestic violence by walking in women’s high-heeled shoes. The symbolic gesture helped spark important conversations about a tragic reality still affecting individuals and families throughout the community.
The walk began at St. Cloud City Hall and proceeded down New York Avenue, where the Monthly Market was in full swing. Surrounded by local vendors, community members, and a lively crowd, the participants delivered a strong message: it’s time to stop ignoring domestic violence and start confronting it head-on.
Before the walk, impactful words were shared by Help Now Executive Director Tammy Douglass, St. Cloud Police Chief Doug Goerke, Osceola Sheriff’s Office Major Fred Hinderman, and State Attorney Monique Worrell.

Make a Splash: Swim Lessons Now Available Through August at Chris Lyle Aquatic Center in St. Cloud
The City of St. Cloud, at its Chris Lyle Aquatic Center, located at 2991 17th Street is offering comprehensive swim lessons for all ages—from infants to adults—now through August.
Group Swim Lessons are available for:
Infants: Parent/Child water introductory classes for ages 6 months to 3 years, requiring an adult (18+) to accompany the child in the water.
Youth: Structured lessons tailored to various skill levels, focusing on water safety and stroke development.
Adults: Programs designed to enhance swimming techniques and build confidence in the water

Hope Partnership Begins Construction on Thrive Studios, Transforming Former Motel into Attainable Housing
Hope Partnership has officially begun construction on Thrive Studios, a transformative affordable housing project in the heart of Kissimmee that will turn the Crown Motel into a beacon of hope and stability for the community—marking a major step forward in addressing Osceola County’s growing need for attainable housing.
Thrive Studios is a motel conversion project that will create 32 affordable studio apartments, designated for individuals earning at or below 60% of the area median income. This initiative extends beyond housing; it is a commitment to rebuilding lives, reigniting aspirations, and restoring hope. Despite earlier supply chain and permitting delays, Hope Partnership’s commitment to this transformative vision has remained unwavering. The anticipated completion date is spring 2026.
“This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and perseverance,” said Reverend Mary Lee Downey, Founder and CEO of Hope Partnership. “We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and Thrive Studios will be a place where people can find security, dignity, and hope for the future.”

Health Puerto Rico Hosts UCF Pre-Medical Students for Hospital Experience
Doctors’ Center Hospital|Orlando Health Puerto Rico welcomed a group of pre-medical students from the University of Central Florida this month as part of an educational mission on the island.
Sixteen students from the student-led nonprofit International Medical Organization (IMO) visited Doctors’ Center Hospital Orlando Health – San Fernando de la Carolina, Doctors’ Center Hospital Orlando Health – San Juan and Doctors’ Center Hospital Orlando Health – Bayamón, where they shadowed physicians and clinical staff in the emergency department, observed two orthopedic surgeries in operating rooms, prepared welcome kits for patients and toured an ambulance. They also had the opportunity to hear testimonies from faculty members of the hospitals they visited about their personal experiences as doctors on the island.
This is the second consecutive year that students from IMO visited Doctors’ Center Hospital|Orlando Health Puerto Rico.
Carlos Blanco, MD, MBA, president of Doctors’ Center Hospital | Orlando Health Puerto Rico, explained that in addition to learning about the operation of hospitals on the island, the visit helped to strengthen the training of these future healthcare providers.
Fire Station 14 Open House Brings Kissimmee Families Together for Fun, Learning, and Fire Safety
Fire Station 14 was full of excitement and community spirit on Saturday, as the Kissimmee Fire Department welcomed residents and families for its Open House event. Attendees of all ages explored the station, which is located at 1101 Regatta Bay Blvd, getting a firsthand look at the world of firefighting and emergency response.
The family-friendly event gave attendees the chance to tour the station, meet local firefighters, and see live rescue demonstrations. Many children were thrilled to climb aboard fire trucks, explore life-saving equipment, and even take photos in firefighter gear.
Throughout the event, firefighters offered hands-on safety education, including CPR tips, home evacuation planning, fire extinguisher demonstrations, and guidance on disaster preparedness. These lessons were designed to empower families with the knowledge to stay safe at home and in emergencies.
“The Open House is about more than just fun — it’s about building relationships and promoting fire safety throughout Kissimmee,” said Fire Chief Jim Walls. “We’re proud to connect with our community and share the important work our firefighters do every day.”

Appreciative pet owners from around District One in Osceola County came together on Saturday for a Free Pet Microchip Event, hosted by District 1 Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry in collaboration with Osceola County Animal Services.
Held at 2925 International Drive (former Publix), the drive-up event aimed to enhance pet safety and help ensure lost animals have a better chance of being returned to their families.
The event, which took place from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, was open exclusively to Osceola County residents, with free microchipping provided while supplies lasted.
Commissioner Choudhry, who personally welcomed and assisted attendees, expressed her gratitude for the community’s participation:

Kissimmee Launches $4.9M Road Improvement Project to Resurface 33 City Streets
Beginning today, Sunday, March 30, the City of Kissimmee will start work on its Citywide Pavement Management Milling and Resurfacing Project, a $4.9 million investment to improve 33 roadways across the city. The project is designed to extend the lifespan of city-maintained roads and enhance safety and driving conditions for all residents and visitors.
The project will start with North Dyer Boulevard, North Thacker Avenue, and West Carroll Street, with work expected to last through April 4, 2025. Crews will then move on to Smith Street and Brack Street beginning April 14, 2025. The full list of roads that will be improved during the remainder of the year are available on the City’s website.
This effort is part of a long-term Capital Improvement Campaign supporting Kissimmee’s continued growth and commitment to safe and well-maintained infrastructure.
What to Expect
Schedule: Most work will occur Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There may be some instances when night work is required.

Osceola County District 1 Commissioner Peggy Choudhry welcomed families for a night of entertainment and community bonding on Friday, March 21, during her Free Family Movie Night at Studio Movie Grill in Kissimmee. The event brought Osceola County residents together for a special showing of Snow White, complete with free popcorn, soda, and exciting raffle prizes.
With the help of Commissioner Choudhry’s daughter, Athena, and the Student Committee — a youth leadership and volunteer group mentored by Choudhry herself — the evening was a heartwarming success. Operation Green Light: Osceola County Launches Program to Help Residents Reinstate Suspended Driver Licenses
The Office of Kelvin Soto, Esq., Osceola Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller, has officially announced its 2025 Operation Green Light event, a limited-time opportunity for eligible residents to save money and reinstate suspended driver licenses.
Running from March 31 through April 11, 2025, Operation Green Light aims to ease the burden on those with overdue court obligations. During this event, 20% collection surcharges will be waived, and eligible participants may have their driver licenses reinstated, helping them get back on the road legally and safely.

16th Annual Rayzor’s Edge Music and Bike Fest Brings Energy, Unity, and Cancer Awareness to Downtown St.
Downtown St. Cloud came alive on Sunday, March 23, as the 16th Annual Rayzor’s Edge Music and Bike Fest for Relay for Life brought together hundreds of supporters, survivors, families, and music lovers for a day filled with energy, entertainment, and heartfelt purpose. Founded by beloved local hairstylist and cancer survivor Traudi Rayzor, and now led by her daughter, the annual event has grown year after year—while staying true to its heartfelt mission of raising awareness, supporting those battling cancer, and funding the fight for a cure.
This year’s event featured live music across two stages, a classic car and custom bike show, a wide variety of vendors and exhibitors, and special appearances from strolling characters including Star Wars stormtroopers and sandpeople, delighting guests of all ages throughout the day.

Rotary Club of Kissimmee West Hosts 9th Annual Virtual Student Art Exhibit to Support Youth Education & Hunger
The Rotary Club of Kissimmee West is once again bringing art and philanthropy together with the 9th Annual Virtual Student Art Exhibit, showcasing the creativity of young artists while raising funds for youth education, scholarships, and hunger relief efforts in Osceola County.
The online art exhibit, featuring over 500 juried entries from talented student artists across the county, will run from April 7–14, 2025. Artwork will be displayed virtually on OsceolaGenerations.org, where visitors can review the submissions and vote for their favorite pieces.
Vote & Make a Difference
Participants can support their favorite student artists by casting votes in the People’s Choice Award, with each vote costing $5. 100% of the proceeds from the voting process will go toward funding the winning artists and teachers, as well as local charitable initiatives.
Winners will be selected across various grade levels, with cash prizes awarded: People’s Choice Award: $250 for the top-voted student Best of Show: $100 for student winners, plus $100 for their teachers to purchase
Osceola and Polk counties are growing rapidly, with communities like Poinciana leading that change. The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is working with local leaders to find ways to relieve traffic congestion resulting from Poinciana’s rapid growth.
CFX is proposing the Southport Connector Expressway as part of a series of new roadways to help Move Poinciana. The proposed expressway would be part of a regional solution for easier and more efficient travel - including making it more convenient to get to Interstate 4 and Florida’s Turnpike.
Study Description
• CFX would widen Cypress Parkway to six lanes to help relieve traffic backups, making travel easier and benefitting everyone.
• Elevated expressway in the middle of Cypress Parkway would let people making longer trips get to their destinations more quickly. That also would mean less traffic on the local road.
• Based on community input, CFX is looking at building the elevated expressway on bridge structures, which would maintain more open, community views; on fill dirt with retaining walls; or a combination of both.
• Cypress Parkway would be improved for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Orlando Health’s Hospital Care at Home Hits 2,000-Patient Milestone in Central Florida
Orlando Health’s Hospital Care at Home program, which delivers acute hospitallevel care directly to adult patients in the comfort of their own homes, has successfully treated over 2,000 patients across Central Florida since its launch in February 2023.
The program, available to Orlando Health patients who meet specific clinical criteria determined by emergency department and hospital staff, is now available through Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital, Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Orlando Health Emergency Room –Osceola, Orlando Health Emergency Room – Randal Park, Orlando Health Emergency Room – Lake Mary, Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital and Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. In June, Hospital Care at Home celebrated its 1,000th patient admitted into the program.
“This latest milestone reflects the significant growth of our program within less than two years of operation,” said Linda Fitzpatrick, assistant vice president, Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home. “It is a testament to our patients’ trust in this advanced healthcare model and the dedication of our care providers.”

Convene to Plan for Future Growth and Infrastructure
The St. Cloud City Council and the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners convened today at Osceola Heritage Park for an interlocal meeting focused on key issues shaping the region’s future. The discussion, which was well attended by the community, centered on major transportation projects, infrastructure development, and strategic planning for growth within the St. Cloud Joint Planning Area (JPA) and beyond.
Local leaders collaborated on expanding roadway networks, enhancing public services, and managing sustainable development to accommodate the area’s rapid growth. The meeting reinforced a shared commitment to improving mobility, supporting economic development, and ensuring long-term infrastructure solutions that will benefit both St. Cloud and Osceola County residents.

Toho Water Authority Schedules April Meetings for Public Input on Water Fluoridation
Toho Water Authority (Toho) is inviting customers to take part in a series of upcoming community engagement meetings focused on the use of supplemental fluoride in the region’s water supply.
As conversations surrounding water additives gain attention both statewide and nationally, Toho is providing residents with the opportunity to ask questions, share feedback, and engage directly with Toho representatives on this important public health topic.
According to Toho Water, their water supply contains naturally occurring fluoride at approximately 0.35 mg/L and the utility adds supplemental fluoride to the recommended 0.7 mg/L level, which is consistent with current U.S. Department of Health and Human Services guidance.
In response to recent discussions about fluoride and guidance from the Florida Surgeon General recommending against community water fluoridation, Toho hired a third-party to assemble available information about community water system fluoride practices, benefits, and concerns. Toho will present this information during the scheduled community meetings.

Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home has made history as the first program in the nation to receive the prestigious Silver Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, recognizing its groundbreaking approach to delivering acute hospital-level care directly in patients’ homes.
The program, which has served more than 2,000 patients in Central Florida since its launch in February 2023, is available to Orlando Health patients who meet specific clinical criteria determined by emergency department and hospital staff. To avoid unwanted bear encounters, be sure to secure trash cans, bring pet food indoors, and take down bird feeders when bears are active.

Health, Hope, and Family Fun: Osceola Community Health Services Health Festival Coming to Old Town
Osceola Community Health Services (OCHS) is uniting healthcare and community spirit once again with Health Festival 2025—a powerful day of free health screenings, family fun, and life-changing resources—set for Sunday, April 13 at Old Town in Kissimmee, with support from Kissimmee Utility Authority and over 25 community partners.
Health Festival 2025 builds on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which facilitated more than ten no-cost mammograms and several other health screenings. This year’s festival is poised to do even more, with an expanded list of services and providers on-site. Attendees can take advantage of blood pressure checks, dental and eye screenings, mammograms, memory screenings, child physicals, and eligibility screenings for follow-up care. Appointments can also be scheduled on-site with OCHS primary care providers for future visits.

Harmony Longhorns, St. Cloud Bulldogs Top Seeds For This Week’s OBC Baseball
Harmony and St. Cloud will be the top two seeds when the 2025 Orange Belt Conference Baseball Tournament begins tonight with four first round games. As the 1-2 seeds, both the Longhorns and Bulldogs will host first and second round games on Tuesday. Winners of the semifinals will meet at Tohopekaliga on Friday (7 p.m.) for the championship.
Seeding for the tournament was based on the official FHSAA state rankings that came out on Monday (3/24), with the Longhorns (14-6) securing the top spot, followed by St. Cloud (12-5).
In Monday’s quarterfinals at Harmony, #4 Celebration (8-6) will face #5 Osceola (3-9) at 4:30 p.m.; with Liberty (0-5) playing #1 Harmony at 7 p.m. Over at St. Cloud, #3 Gateway (9-7) faces #6 Tohopekaliga (6-8) at 4:30 p.m.; with host St. Cloud playing #7 Poinciana (4-4) in the 7 p.m. nightcap.
Semifinal and consolation games are at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Although top-seeded, Harmony enters the tournament in a bit of a slump. After a season-opening 5-3 loss at Rockledge, the Longhorns ripped off 12 consecutive wins.

St. Cloud Flexes Muscle at District Weightlifting, Falls to Centennial in Girls Softball
In Friday’s Class 3A, District 9 Championships hosted by Harmony, St. Cloud’s weightlifters excelled – with team titles in both the Traditional (bench press plus cleanand-jerk) and Olympic (clean-and-jerk plus snatch) to capture district team titles.
Led by double gold medalist Mikey Ziss, St. Cloud posted four individual champions in the Traditional and seven winners in the Olympic to run away with both district team titles with 87 and 102 team points respectively.
Harmony tallied 52 points in the Traditional and 65 in the Olympic to take second place in both events; while Poinciana (24/24) and Celebration (14/10) placed third and fourth in the six team event.
The 10 district champions in the two disciplines gain automatic spots in next Saturday Class 3A, Region 3 Championships at St. Cloud High School. The event begins at 12 noon. In addition to the four district champions in each weight class, the next 12 best lifters across all districts competed for at-large regional spots.
“We were happy to win the team titles, but that is not what the district meet is all about,” St. Cloud coach Cory Aun said. “Our main goal was to qualify as many lifters as possible for regionals.”

St. Cloud Bulldog Star TJ Griffin Signs with National Powerhouse University of Mount Union
Terrence “TJ” Griffin, St. Cloud’s talented multi-purpose football player, will continue his career at Mount Union University next season – signing scholarship papers in a Thursday afternoon ceremony before family, teammates and coaches at the Bulldog’s Gymnasium.
Griffin, a four-year letter winner and three-year starter, has been a mainstay in the St. Cloud lineup – helping the team to 20 wins over the last three seasons. As a senior, he was a two-way standout, leading the team in rushing with 408 yards and finishing second in receptions with 44 catches for 711 yards. He scored five touchdowns and also had 13 tackles and an interception on defense. He was named to the Orange Belt Conference and the local newspaper’s All-County team.
For his career, Griffin went over the career 2500-yard mark in all-purpose yards with 1452 rushing yards, 1031 receiving yards and 34 return yards. He scored 25 career touchdowns.
He will be joining one of the most successful Division-III schools in the nation. Located in Alliance, Ohio, Mt. Union is coming off a 14-1 record where their only loss came to North Central in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl National Championship game. The Purple Raiders have gone 96-6 in the last eight seasons.
