Silver Spurs Riding Club’s Special Rodeo: A Legacy of Love, Passion, and Inspiration
Decades ago, a touching story of love and inclusion began with Fran McLaughlin, a dedicated member of the Silver Spurs Riding Club. During a visit to the “Exceptional Rodeo” at the 1987 National Finals Rodeo, Fran was deeply inspired by what she witnessed. Motivated by her own child with special needs, she envisioned an event where all children in Osceola County, regardless of their abilities, could experience the excitement and joy of rodeo. From this vision, the Special Rodeo was born.
For over 30 years, the Special Rodeo has fostered a meaningful connection between Osceola County’s youth and the rich western traditions of the Silver Spurs Riding Club, offering children the opportunity to ride horses, rope a steer dummy, or sit atop the famous Big Blue Boot, all with the support of volunteers, rodeo queens, contestants, and club members.
The day concludes with cheers, trophies, and a celebration of the courage, spirit, and love these children bring to the event.
Today, the legacy of the Special Rodeo is carried forward by Silver Spurs Riding Club members Bridget Coggins and Sara Berlinski, and a huge team of passionate volunteers, like former Big Boss Gary Ketchum and others, who help the special kiddos get up on a horse before they make their way around the iconic Silver Spurs Rodeo dirt.

With the win, the Bulldogs extend their school record for victories to 23 (23-3) and will now face arch-rival Harmony for the district title. The Longhorns (18-8) reached the finals with a 54-47 win over Cypress Creek. Tipoff is at St. Cloud High Friday night at 7 p.m.
While Baker was the leading scorer, he was one of just several offensive stars for St. Cloud, as the Bulldogs had five players in double figures – including 15 from Josiah Cotto and 11 each from Alex Springs and Ryan Rodriguez. Julian Fox had 10 off the bench and Lenuel Narvaez just missed joining the parade of double figure scorers as he added nine in limited playing time.
Although it was the most points scored by St. Cloud this season, it was the Bulldog defense that really made the difference in the game. St. Cloud came out in a frantic press, forced the Lions to miss their first nine shots and jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead.

St. Cloud’s Three-Sport Star Alex Springs Chooses Football, Signs with Ferris State
Based on his success of being a two-time all-county selection, the college athletic future of St. Cloud senior Alex Springs appeared to be headed for the hardwood of the basketball court. That idea was officially shelved on Wednesday afternoon, when the talented three-sport star inked papers to attend Ferris State University on a football scholarship.
Ferris State is the defending NCAA Division II football champion at knocking off Valdosta State, 45-19, in the title game in December.
“It really wasn’t a difficult decision to sign with Ferris State,” Springs said after several programs began to recruit him heavily midway through his senior season. “I fell in love with the program and the school when I went for an official visit. The coaches were very upfront and honest with me on what they envisioned for me and the place just felt like home.”
That vision includes a change of his primary position. Although Ferris State is an offensive juggernaut that averaged more than 45 points per game, the Bulldogs signed Springs to be a defensive back—a position he played his senior year as a two-way standout for St. Cloud.
Harmony Longhorns Edge St. Cloud in Boys
Basketball District Championship Thriller
Jaden Smith came up with a huge steal with 6.3 second left as the Harmony Longhorns defeated St.Cloud, 49-46, to win the Class 7A, District 6 Championship on Friday night. With the game tied 46-46, Harmony had possession with less than a minute to go and appeared content to run down the clock and take a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer. But 12.3 seconds remaining, the Bulldogs were called for a reach-in foul that sent Mason Fontaine to the free throw line. Fontaine knocked down both shots and Harmony led by two.=
Still, the Bulldogs have a chance go for a tie or a win with a three-pointer, but the Harmony defense would not allow it. The Longhorns pressured St. Cloud into calling two quick timeouts.
After the second timeout, Smith would tip an errant pass and come up with a clean steal. He was quickly fouled after the steal, and confidently made his first free throw attempt. But his second shot rattled off the rim and was tipped out of bounds by the Longhorns – giving St. Cloud one more opportunity to tie the game with 3.8 seconds remaining.
Osceola Kowboys Rally in Second Half to Capture Class 7A District 9 Championship
Trailing at halftime, the Osceola Kowboys rode an offensive surge from Luke McCrimon and Jordan Isaac to a 75-61 win over Poinciana --capturing the FHSAA Class 7A, District 9 championship in the process.
Osceola’s win, their fifth in a row, improved their record to 23-3 and most likely secured a #1 seeding when the Region 3 Tournament begins on Wednesday. “A couple of weeks ago, we lost two games in a row but I really think it was a wake-up call for us,” Osceola coach Steve Mason said. “We were rolling along pretty good and those two losses (6955 to Lake Highland Prep and 73-68 to The First Academy) probably did more good for us then harm. It made us realize that we couldn’t just show up and expect to win.”
Although Osceola entered Thursday district championship game with an OBC Championship, a four-game winning streak and a top district seed to their credit. Still, Poinciana would prove to be more than an obstacle – particularly in the first half.
Playing patiently on offense, driving the ball inside and coming up with some key second –chance buckets, the Eagles built a 21-18 lead after one quarter, behind 11 points from Savion Viser. They would continue to apply the pressure through much of the second period, leading by as many as seven and maintaining a five-point lead.

Law: Which vehicles are more likely to be involved in serious or fatal accidents?
Sadly, serious and fatal accidents take place on a daily basis in Central Florida. These crashes can happen in a number of ways and can be caused by not following traffic laws, inexperience, intoxication, distracted driving, fatigue, and medical issues.
Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. If you drive out on the roadways, here’s what you need to know about which vehicles have been involved in many of the crashes.

Prostate Wellness: Dietary Choices from Orlando Health That Make a Difference
Eating right can keep your heart, digestion and brain functioning properly, but did you know a healthy diet can help your prostate, too? While there are certain factors outside of your control that affect prostate health, such as your age and family history, making healthy lifestyle choices can help prevent prostate problems.
Why Prostate Health Matters
An important part of a man’s reproductive system, the prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The prostate produces fluid that contains enzymes, minerals and proteins that nourish and transport sperm.
Maintaining prostate health is important for men of all ages, but as you get older and risk increases for complications like incontinence, sexual dysfunction and prostate cancer, it’s even more essential.

Orlando Health: Strengthen Your Aging Bones with Smart Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Choices
As you grow older, it is inevitable that your bones will become more fragile. It’s simply part of your body’s natural life cycle. But that doesn’t mean you are powerless to slow the process – or bolster the strength of your bones to avoid osteoporosis.
From the time you are born, your bone tissue is constantly breaking down and rebuilding, through bone remodeling. The process operates at different rates throughout your life.
You reach peak bone mass in your 20s and then hit a period of stability throughout your 30s. But then sometime in your 40s and 50s, your bones start breaking down faster than your body can rebuild them.
