Toho Water Authority Offers $100 Toilet Rebates to Help Residents Save Water and Money

Toho Water Authority (Toho) is encouraging residential and commercial customers to take part in its Toilet Rebate Program, a water-saving initiative aimed at lowering water bills and promoting sustainability through the replacement of older, inefficient toilets.

Homes built before 1996 may qualify for a $100 rebate per toilet, credited directly to the customer’s water bill, when replacing outdated toilets with high-efficiency models that use 1.28 gallons per flush or less. Residential customers can receive rebates for up to two toilets per property, while commercial properties may apply for rebates on as many as 100 toilets.

For businesses, the program presents an opportunity to reduce operating costs while improving water efficiency across larger buildings or multi-unit complexes.

“By switching to high-efficiency toilets, customers not only lower their water bills but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of our community’s water resources,” said Rodney Tilley, Toho’s Environmental Supervisor. “This is an easy and effective way for customers to make a positive environmental impact.”

The Toilet Rebate Program runs through early 2026, but funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure eligibility, customers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Orlando Health Launches New Air Care Helicopter to Enhance Critical Care Transport

Orlando Health Air Care has officially introduced a powerful addition to its air ambulance fleet: a larger, state-of-the-art Airbus H145D3 helicopter designed to transport critically ill patients, both children and adults, across Central Florida faster and more efficiently.

Stationed in Apopka, the new helicopter strengthens the healthcare system’s ability to deliver lifesaving care by air to patients being transported to Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC)—Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center—and Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

“Our new Air Care helicopter is incredibly special because our patients are at the heart of this design,” said Kelly Nierstedt, president of Orlando Health ORMC and senior vice president of the Orlando region. “The larger cabin space enhances our ability to transport specialty equipment for both children and adults, and the greater lift capacity means we can travel longer distances for our patients.”

The new helicopter is a gamechanger in three critical ways:

Extended Range – As a larger class aircraft, it can reach critically ill patients over greater distances more quickly.

Enhanced Cabin Space & Lift Capacity – It can accommodate more flight personnel

Commissioner Janer Highlights Osceola’s Rich History, Bright Future in 'Vibing with Viviana' Video Series

In a recent episode of her ongoing video series Vibing with Viviana, Osceola County Chairwoman and District 2 Commissioner Viviana Janer spotlighted two key initiatives that define Osceola’s past and future — the treasured Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek and the transformative Osceola Prosper program.

Filmed at Osceola History’s Pioneer Village, Janer stepped inside a replica of the Naroossee Schoolhouse to reflect on the county’s deep educational roots and its evolving commitment to student success. The village features both original and replicated structures from the late 1800s, transported from various parts of Osceola County to paint a vivid picture of life before modern conveniences.

“Pioneer Village is more than just a step back in time — it’s a hands-on experience that brings Osceola’s early days to life,” Janer said. “It connects our community to the spirit, resilience, and ingenuity of the pioneers who helped build this county.”

Janer also invited the public to attend this year’s Pioneer Day on November 8 — a free, family-friendly event featuring live music, craft stations, historical demonstrations, and a real Florida market.

Guests will also have the chance to meet resident farm animals, including a goat named Buster and a few chickens that call the village home.

District 3 Commissioner Arrington Hosts Government Resource Fair Focused on Transportation/Community

As Osceola County experiences rapid growth, District 3 County Commissioner and Vice Chairman Brandon Arrington hosted the county’s first-ever Government Resource Fair at Valencia College’s Poinciana Campus to strengthen connections between residents, government services, and community partners.

The fair brought together transportation experts, county departments, housing advocates, health professionals, and local organizations to share updates, answer questions, and provide one-on-one engagement with attendees.

The event highlighted solutions to pressing issues such as transportation infrastructure, public safety, and housing—key concerns for the rapidly developing district.

Transportation was a primary focus, with agencies including the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Osceola County Transportation & Transit, LYNX, and SunRail providing updates on major projects.

Residents learned about the Southport Connector Expressway PD&E Study, which proposes a 15-mile expressway linking Poinciana Parkway to Pleasant Hill Road. Plans include widening Cypress Parkway to six lanes, enhancing eight intersections, and constructing a multi-use trail.

vehicles are
to be involved in serious or fatal accidents?

Sadly, serious and fatal accidents take place on a daily basis in Central Florida. These crashes can happen in a number of ways and can be caused by not following traffic laws, inexperience, intoxication, distracted driving, fatigue, and medical issues.

Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. If you drive out on the roadways, here’s what you need to know about which vehicles have been involved in many of the crashes.

St. Cloud’s 911 Communications Center Earns Rare Triple Accreditation Renewal

St. Cloud’s commitment to public safety has once again received international recognition. The St. Cloud Police Department’s 911 Communications Center has successfully renewed its accreditations as an Emergency Medical, Fire, and Police Dispatch Center of Excellence through the Board of Accreditation of the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch.

This achievement places St. Cloud among an elite group, as the city’s 911 center is one of only 12 agencies worldwide to hold triple accreditation. The designation as an Accredited Center of Excellence is the highest honor in emergency communications, requiring strict adherence to standards and continuous quality assurance. Accreditation is valid for three years, with centers required to maintain excellence throughout that period.

In 2024, the center’s dedicated staff managed more than 71,000 calls for service, supporting both the St. Cloud Police Department and St. Cloud Fire Rescue. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the center provides critical services to residents in times of need.

Residents can reach the 911 Communications Center by calling or texting 911 in emergencies, or by contacting the St. Cloud Police Department’s non-emergency line at (407) 891-6700 for less urgent matters.maintain this high standard," said Chief Goerke.

Ready for Some Football? Big Expectations and Tough Questions Heading into Osceola County’s 2025 High

Football training camps are open with most of the eight Osceola County public school football coaches saying they are optimistic about the upcoming season, although most also caution that things could also go sideways if injuries or other factors get in the way.

Even traditional power Osceola, which has made it a habit of simply reloading rather than rebuilding, has a ton of questions after graduating 17 starters or major contributors from last year’s 12-3 team that made it all the way to the FHSAA Class 6A State Championship game.

In addition, the stating quarterback and a defensive lineman who was expected to challenge for playing time, have transferred.

“There’s no way you simply plug players in to replace guys like Elijah and Taevion,” Coach Eric Pinellas said Division One signees Elijah Melendez (Auburn) and Taevion Swint (UCF). We lost some really talented seniors, so we will have our work cut out for us this season.”

Added to Osceola’s rebuild questions is the transfer of two-year starter Cam West at quarterback.resources.

The 2025 high school football season in Osceola County is packed with excitement, and while the historic Osceola–St. Cloud matchup has been played over 100 times and continues to stir pride among fans, it’s the Soldier City Classic between St. Cloud and Harmony that tops this year’s list of can’t-miss games, embodying tradition, passion, and community pride.

Our rankings:

#1 Soldier City Classic

Harmony at St. Cloud Oct. 17 – 7 p.m.

When it comes to rivalries, this one has it all.

When Harmony opened a couple of decades ago, most of their first graduating class came from St. Cloud High – forming a natural bond between the two schools. Over the years, almost all Harmony-zoned kids grew up playing youth sports in St. Cloud—adding to the closeness of the student body.

Regardless of records, the game has easily become one of the most heavily attended games on the county’s high school football calendar. Add in an intense, close series (St. Cloud has won the last two games to take a narrow 11-9 lead in the all-time series);

Kowboys 2025 Football Preview: Will Running Back

Jeffrey Sinophat Take Flight as the Team’s Superman?

For six seasons, Osceola’s vaunted running game was powered by “Supermen” wearing an “S” on their backs — the Swint brothers, Ja’Randy and Taevion, who combined for 7,600 rushing yards and 96 touchdowns from 2019 to 2024. This fall, while opponents may welcome the end of the Swint era, they’ll face another looming ‘S’ as senior Jeffrey Sinophat steps into the spotlight, ready to carry the Kowboys’ ground attack in 2025.

Although he played hurt most of the season and ended up in the second chair behind Swint, Sinophat still managed to put up big numbers, rushing for almost 1000 yards and nine touchdowns. Head coach Eric Pinellas was almost giddy when talking about Sinophat’s potential.

“He had a great season last year and I don’t think anyone knew he was playing with a torn labrum,” Pinellas said. “He had surgery two days after the championship game and worked his tail off in rehab. He was given a clean bill of health and is 100% ready to go this year. The prospects of having him totally healthy is exciting.”

Osceola option attack has always relied on more than one back and Sinophat should have plenty of help. Junior Jamarie Williams averaged more than 14 yards a carry in a reserve role and Jaxson Hardnett – who also had a big season – transfers over from Tohopekaliga. Alijah Jenkins and Alvarez Toussaint (Liberty transfer) could also figure in the backfield to give Osceola plenty of speed, athleticism and depth.

FWC Launches “GatorWise” Campaign to Promote Alligator Safety Across FloridaAwareness

With alligator activity increasing throughout Florida’s waterways, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is urging residents and visitors to stay alert and “Be GatorWise.” The newly launched public awareness campaign is designed to encourage safer behaviors around alligators and provide consistent, science-backed guidance to reduce the risk of conflict.

As more people move to and visit areas near lakes, ponds, and other freshwater bodies, the potential for human-alligator interactions has grown. “Florida has seen tremendous population growth in recent years, with many people living or recreating near water,” said Matthew Nichols, FWC Alligator Management Program Coordinator. “Because alligators can be found in nearly any waterbody in Florida, it’s safest to always assume they’re present.”

GatorWise offers unified safety messaging developed in coordination with 11 wildlife agencies across the American alligator’s native range. The campaign aims to correct misconceptions and provide practical tips for coexisting with these important reptiles, which play a key role in maintaining healthy freshwater ecosystems.

Florida is home to approximately 1.3 million alligators. To help avoid dangerous encounters, the FWC recommends the following precautions:

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Recertified

as Advanced Primary Stroke Center

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital has once again earned national recognition for its commitment to exceptional stroke care. The hospital has been recertified by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, a prestigious designation that reflects a hospital’s commitment to meeting high standards in clinical performance and patient outcomes.

Originally certified in 2023, this recertification acknowledges the hospital’s consistent efforts in delivering timely, life-saving care to stroke patients. When a patient exhibits warning signs of a stroke—such as facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulty—a “stroke alert” is immediately initiated, activating a hospital-wide response designed to reduce brain damage and improve recovery outcomes.

“Access to rapid, expert stroke care saves lives, preserves brain function, and ensures patients have the best possible chance at recovery,” said Stacy Jemtrud, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, chief nursing officer at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “Our team is equipped to provide this critical treatment to patients in our community.”

Since launching its stroke program in May 2022, the hospital has responded to 1,702 stroke alerts and treated 292 stroke patients—a testament to the facility’s readiness and effectiveness in emergency stroke care.
