Saddle up for the 151st Silver Spurs Rodeo, bucking into the Silver Spurs arena tonight
The 151st Silver Spurs Rodeo will hit the dirt hard in June for two action-filled rodeos. Fans will be treated to seven of rodeo’s traditional events during the largest professional rodeo east of the Mississippi: bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, women’s barrel racing, steer wrestling and team roping.
Returning to the June rodeo are the junior barrel racing and junior bull riding events, starring teenagers kicking off their rodeo careers at Silver Spurs Arena! Plus, everyone’s favorite during the performance, mutton bustin’ (also known as sheep racing)!
“This summer, the Silver Spurs Rodeo will introduce the traditional rodeo events you’re used to seeing, but also highlight our youth who will kick off summer break during the performance in front of a live crowd. Our Junior Quadrille perform a square dance on horseback, junior barrel racers as young as 10 will run a real clover pattern on the dirt as fast as they can, and junior bull riders will go up against our very own rank bulls hoping to take home a little cash.” said Clifton Chapman, Big Boss of the Silver Spurs Rodeo. “You won’t want to miss this.”

Osceola deputy fired and arrested for alerting friend, a child sex suspect, of warrant
An Osceola deputy has been fired and arrested after being accused of helping a suspect, who was a friend, avoid a felony charge of having sex with a minor in Okeechobee County, according to Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez.
Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said during a news conference on Thursday that 30-year-old Arturo Dominguez, who worked as a deputy with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office for two years, has been arrested and is facing four felony charges. Dominguez is accused of repeatedly utilizing law enforcement databases to assist a suspect, 36-year-old Omar Ayala, who is a high school teacher and coach facing allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The investigation into Dominguez began in the second week of May when a detective from the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office who was working the case involving Ayala raised concerns and reported discrepancies in Dominguez’s responses to questions.

Osceola High School’s longtime Baseball coach Scott Birchler stepping down
After two stints and 21 seasons with Scott Birchler at the helm, Osceola High School will be looking for a new head baseball coach. Birchler, the all-times win leader in the school’s history, announced his retirement at the team’s annual baseball banquet on Wednesday night.
Birchler steps down after another successful campaign, where the Kowboys – despite playing one of the toughest schedules in the state – went 16-10, won a district championship, won a regional quarterfinal and then took eventual regional champion Park Vista to the limit in losing a 3-1 decision.
“No one thing led up to this decision,” Birchler said. “It’s always tough to figure out when it’s the right time to leave. I started to think about this last year when my son Blake was a senior and after this season, it just felt like the right time. Being the head baseball coach at a school like Osceola is a time-consuming job and honestly there is more to my life than just baseball. Trying to be a good husband, a good father and a good grandfather is extremely important to me and by stepping down it will give me more time to focus on those things.”
That game marked the end of a remarkable coaching career, where Birchler came to the school in 1993 as a teaching intern and assistant baseball coach but was thrust into the role of interim head coach with the sudden departure of Rob Beach.
He would remain head coach until 2000, when he resigned after winning the first of his eight district championships to become an assistant coach at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando. “My wife was pregnant and I felt I was needed a lot more around the house than on a baseball field,” Birchler said. “Dr. Phillips didn’t have lights at the time, they played afternoon games and being an assistant is a lot less time consuming that being a head coach. I just felt it was the right thing to do.”

NHTSA proposes mandatory utomatic emergency braking systems for US vehicles
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has put forward a rule proposal that would mandate the installation of automatic emergency braking systems on “nearly all” cars and light trucks in the United States. The proposed rule is expected to dramatically reduce crashes associated with pedestrians and rear-end crashes.
NHTSA projects that this proposed rule, if finalized, would save at least 360 lives a year and reduce injuries by at least 24,000 annually. In addition, these AEB systems would result in significant reductions in property damage caused by rear-end crashes. Many crashes would be avoided altogether, while others would be less destructive.

Draper Law: What to know about parking lot accidents
Parking lots can be tricky for drivers to navigate. Whether you’re at a grocery store, restaurant, doctor’s office, apartment complex, concert or sports venue, or school, getting in and out of a parking lot can be tricky due to the sheer number of cars and pedestrians in the area.
Many of these accidents are caused by distracted driving. The good news is that these crashes are often at low speeds, so the injuries involved are not typically too bad.
Parking lots are often crowded, making accidents likely. If you have been involved in an accident, the Kissimmee auto accident lawyers at Draper Law Office can help you gather evidence and recover compensation for the losses you have suffered. To schedule a free consultation, call (407) 743-6628 or fill out the online form.

Draper Law: Showing positive parenting
When parents of minor children divorce, it can be several years before their involvement with the court will end. Ideally, both parties will abide by their thoughtfully created parenting agreement and make changes which support their children’s wellbeing. However, as time passes and circumstances change, it is not uncommon for parents to disagree about what is in the best interest of their kids. A parent may also claim the other does not have good parenting abilities and seek to make legal changes to the parenting plan. In this situation, the other parent may have to provide evidence of their positive parenting skills.
The Draper Law Office has attorneys who are experienced with helping clients with child custody and parenting time issues and can help. Call 407.846.0075 today or go to DraperLawOffice.com to set up your free, no-obligation consultation in one of their three locations: St. Cloud, Kissimmee, and Orlando.

HEALTH
Praveen Ranganath, MD Cancer Orlando Health
There are many different types of cancer, making it virtually impossible to build a one-size-fits-all checklist of symptoms. It’s not unusual for some cancer symptoms to fly under the radar – or be confused with an unrelated condition.
It’s estimated that one in three people in the U.S. will develop cancer at some point in their life, according to the American Cancer Society. It’s easy to look at certain lifestyle choices – smoking and diets high in fried food, for example – and expect there to be an elevated risk of certain cancers.
It’s more of a challenge to identify cancers when there’s no obvious set of risk factors to keep us vigilant. With that in mind, let’s look at some of the less-obvious symptoms that could indicate cancer.
1. Chronic cough or hoarseness. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that coughing can be an indicator of lung cancer. But so is unexplained hoarseness. For some people with lung cancer, their voice will become strained, raspy or sound more quiet or softer in tone. This can be caused by a tumor pressing against the nerve that controls your vocal cords. The condition could also be a sign of laryngeal cancer. Of course, hoarseness can also be caused by a variety of less serious things, including colds and laryngitis. If it lingers beyond a couple of weeks, it’s time to see your doctor.
2. Difficulty swallowing. If you feel like food is getting stuck in your throat, that could be a symptom of cancers of the mouth, throat or esophagus. The condition is known as dysphasia and can be caused by a tumor blocking or narrowing your food passage.
3. Unexpected weight loss. Suddenly losing weight without making any lifestyle changes can be a symptom of many health conditions, including diabetes, dementia and heart failure. But it can also be related to numerous cancers. There’s no hard and fast rule on what constitutes enough weight loss to set off alarm bells. But if you’ve lost 5 percent of your body weight over six months – without trying – you should mention it to your doctor.

100 deadliest days for teen drivers have begun
Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer and a dangerous time of year for young drivers. Nationwide, more than 30 percent of deaths involving teen drivers occur during what’s called the “100 Deadliest Days” – a period that runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
“Summer is historically a dangerous time for teen drivers,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Now that school is out, teens will spend more time on the road, often driving with friends at odd hours of the day and night. Because of their inexperience, teens are more susceptible to dangerous driving behaviors – like speeding, driving distracted, and not wearing a safety belt. AAA urges parents to model safe driving behavior and reinforce safe driving habits with their teen drivers to help keep them safe this summer.”
