Soldier City Classic, Battle of the Boulevard, OBC Championships Highlight Busy Week in and Around Osceola in Sports
To say it’s a big week in Osceola High School sports is a massive understatement. Football grabs top billing as the 20th Soldier City Classic between St. Cloud and Harmony is slated for the Ranch at 7 p.m. Friday. Less than 30 miles away, Poinciana travels to Liberty for the 18th playing of the Battle of the Boulevards. Tohopekaliga can clinch a share of a district football championship with a win at Lake Nona on the same night. Toss in Osceola’s Friday game at highly-ranked Lake Wales and it is a tasty menu of football this week.
As if that wasn’t enough, Orange Belt Conference Championships will be contested in girls’ golf Monday, boys’ golf Tuesday and in cross country on Wednesday. For good measure, Osceola, the fifth ranked team in Class7A and top-ranked teamin Region 2, starts its state playoff run by hosting Windermere in a first round regional game on Wednesday. With a win, Osceola would host a regional semifinal on Saturday. Orange Belt Conference individual and team champions will be crowned in cross country on Wednesday.
“If you love high school sports, this is an incredible week of action,” Osceola County Athletics Director Ryan Adams said. “We are going to crown four more Orange Belt Conference team champions this week, Osceola and Harmony have made it to the regional playoffs in volleyball and we have some great football rivalries on Friday.”

Karolyna Adams Shines as St. Cloud Clinches Eighth
Straight OBC Golf Championship
Karolyna Adams rallied from a rough start to shoot a five-over 77 and win the girls individual title at the 2024 Orange Belt Conference Golf Championships on Monday morning at Royal St. Cloud Golf Club.
Adams, playing out of St. Cloud’s number one slot, had four bogeys and two double bogeys — covering the front side in an uncharacteristic seven-over 43. But she caught fire on the turn, recording birdies on 11, 16 and 18 for a one-under 34 and a final score of five-over for the 5,317-yard, Par 72 layout. Adams finished the backside with only one blemish on the card – a bogey on the 130-yard, Par 3, 12th.
“To be honest, I didn’t get off to a great start with three bogeys on the first four holes and then got tripped up with a couple of doubles,” Adams said. “At that point I felt I was letting my teammates down. I settled down, refocused and was able to play to my capabilities on the back with the two-under.”
Adams’ freshman teammate, Abigail Murphy finished second with an 81; while fellow teammate Maddie Burda (sophomore) followed up her second place finish last year with a third place showing and 82.

Alex Springs’ Three Touchdowns and Key Turnovers Propel Bulldogs Past
Tohopekaliga, Keeping St. Cloud’s District Championship Hopes Alive
By any sense of the word, it was far from artistic football. But that did not keep St. Cloud coach Mike Short from calling the Bulldogs come-from-behind 31-24 win over Tohopekaliga “beautiful,” in a contest where the two teams combined for 10 turnovers (12 if you count recovered on-sides kicks) and were whistled for more than 200 yards in penalties.
The win by the Bulldogs threw the Class 7A, District 10 race into some serious doubt. If Tohopekaliga (4-3, 1-1) can beat Lake Nona (53, 2-0) and if St. Cloud (4-4, 1-1) can beat Harmony (1-5, 0-2) next week, it would create a three-way tie for the district championship. In that case, the highest ranked team would be awarded the district title and would advance to the state playoffs.
Osceola County Gears Up for the 4th Annual Anti- Bullying Event “Chalk Away Hate” Hosted by Commissioner Peggy Choudhry
On Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 5 PM to 11 PM, parents and students across Osceola County are invited to join District 1 Commissioner Peggy Choudhry for the 4th Annual Anti-Bullying Glow in the Dark Event at Celebration High School. The event, titled Chalk Away Hate, aims to unite the community in spreading awareness about the impact of bullying and the importance of kindness.
Attendees can look forward to fun activities, including chalk art and over $25,000 in free raffle prizes such as laptops, Apple Watches, Switches, and scooters. Special guests include popular TikTok and Instagram stars, with emcee Athena Choudhry adding to the entertainment.
“This event is all about bringing people together to stand against bullying and promote positivity,” said Commissioner Choudhry. “We want everyone to enjoy a memorable night while making a difference in the lives of our students.”

Drive to Make a Positive Difference: Osceola Council on Aging’s Annual Jeep Raffle Returns Beginning July 1
Start your engines! The Osceola Council on Aging has announced the return of its annual Jeep Raffle Fundraiser, beginning July 1. All proceeds from this event go directly towards their programs and services, helping the advocacy agency to continue providing vital assistance to those in our community who need it most. By purchasing tickets, you’ll not only have the opportunity to win a beautiful new Jeep but also make a meaningful impact on the lives of your neighbors in need.
Ticket donations start on July 1, 2024, with each ticket priced at $25. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase, and the more tickets you buy, the greater your chances of winning. The raffle is open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry, excluding executive staff of the Osceola Council on Aging. Tickets can be purchased at designated locations or online through the OCOA official website at osceolagenerations.org.
The raffle drawing will take place on December 31, 2024, at 11 am Eastern Time at 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee, FL 34744. You do not need to be present to win. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and on Thursday, October 24 at 6 PM, Help Now of Osceola will host the 15th Annual Domestic Violence Rally, Awareness Walk, and Candlelight Vigil. This extremely passionate event focuses to raise awareness about domestic violence and honors those affected by it.
The rally will begin at the Osceola County Courthouse in Downtown Kissimmee, where survivors and community advocates will share powerful messages to end violence against women and children. Following the rally, participants will take to the streets of Kissimmee for an Awareness Walk, demonstrating the community’s solidarity and commitment to this important cause.
Help Now of Osceola’s event will conclude with a solemn candlelight vigil at the Kissimmee Police Department. This vigil is a tribute to those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, offering a moment of reflection and hope for current survivors.
Osceola County Clerk & Comptroller Kelvin Soto Launches “Hope Cares Cards” to Improve Safety for Restraining Order Holders
Osceola County Clerk Kelvin Soto, Esq. has introduced the “Hope Cares Cards,” a new initiative designed to increase safety for individuals who have obtained restraining orders. These wallet-sized or digital cards contain essential information about a final injunction for protection, making it easier for individuals to carry proof of their restraining order wherever they go.
Starting October 1, 2024, eligible individuals can request a free “Hope Cares Card” from the Clerk’s Office. The cards are aimed at providing quick access to vital protection details, ensuring law enforcement and others can respond swiftly in cases of violation. This initiative is part of a broader effort to offer more accessible, secure, and effective ways to protect those who are at risk.

Osceola County Supervisor of Elections Mary Jane Arrington is reminding all voters that the deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot for the upcoming November election is October 24. To ensure your voice is heard and your ballot arrives in time, it’s important to submit your request as soon as possible.
Recent legislation changed vote-bymail request expirations. All vote-by-mail requests expire at the end of every election cycle. Voters who have not placed a request for a vote-by-mail ballot will be receiving a mailer with information regarding all three methods of casting a ballot, along with a vote-by-mail request form and return envelope. Anyone who would like to vote-by-mail is encouraged to make their request as soon as possible.

Osceola School District To Host 2024 Choice Fair at Osceola Heritge Park For Parents And Students
In order to inform parents and students of their numerous school choice options for the 2025-2026 school year, the Osceola School District will host its Choice Fair on November 21, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Events Center at Osceola Heritage Park. The event will showcase the highquality options available to students and their families in kindergarten through Grade 12.
Parents are encouraged to visit the Fair at the best time for their family’s schedule.
