Million County Investment in Liberty High’s STEM
“A valuable return on investment” was the theme of the day as Vice Chairman and District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington toured Liberty High School’s cutting-edge engineering academy—an innovative program aimed at inspiring students to pursue high-demand, high-paying careers in STEM.
As part of the County’s continued commitment to activities at NeoCity and expanding career opportunities for the region’s students, the County made a $2.1 million investment into the new academy at Liberty thanks in part to $500,000 from Commissioner Arrington’s allocated ARPA funds and other appropriated County revenues.
The County’s investment funded building improvements, equipment purchases, and faculty training.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact the work we do as a County Commission is making in our community,” said Osceola County Board of County Commissioners Vice Chairman Brandon Arrington. “By investing in our students’ futures through programs such as this engineering academy and Osceola Prosper, we are shaping a future-ready workforce that can lead in helping to reshore advanced manufacturing and STEM innovation in the U.S.”

Women’s Barrel Racing: A Legacy of Speed, Skill, and Spirit Returns to the 155th Silver Spurs
When the 155th Silver Spurs Rodeo charges into Osceola Heritage Park on May 30 and 31, brought to you by Experience Kissimmee, one of rodeo’s most thrilling and historic events will once again take center stage — women’s barrel racing.
Fast-paced, precision-driven, and fueled by the undeniable bond between horse and rider, barrel racing has long been a showcase of athleticism, grit, and horsemanship. This high-energy event not only highlights the quick footwork of the American Quarter Horse but also celebrates the trailblazing spirit of the women who brought the sport into the national spotlight nearly a century ago.
A Historic Ride: The Birth of Barrel Racing
Barrel racing traces its roots back to 1928 in Stamford, Texas, when women were first given the chance to demonstrate their riding skills inside the rodeo arena — a groundbreaking move at a time when opportunities for female competitors were rare. Originally featuring just two barrels and a figure-eight pattern, the event quickly evolved. By the 1950s, the now-famous cloverleaf pattern, using three barrels arranged in a triangular formation, became the standard.

A treasured symbol of East Lake Tohopekaliga is setting sail on a new course. The iconic paddle boat formerly known as The Pearl has officially begun its next chapter under the stewardship of respected St. Cloud residents and community leaders, John and Terry Weaver. Now renamed The Lillie, the boat will operate under the newly formed Old Florida Riverboat Company, established in 2025.
The unanimous approval by the St. Cloud City Council during Thursday’s meeting marks a powerful moment of renewal for the cherished vessel, which faced a difficult chapter last year following the arrest of its former captain, Richard Lawrence, 38, and his fiancée, Frances Fernandez. Now, with the Weavers at the helm, the community is seeing hope, trust, and purpose restored to a riverboat that has held a special place in the heart of St. Cloud.
“This riverboat has meant so much to the people of St. Cloud, and we’re honored to help write its next chapter,” said Terry Weaver. “The Lillie is more than just a boat — it’s a symbol of joy, history, and community. We’re committed to preserving that legacy and sharing it with generations to come.”
The Weavers, whose deep roots in St. Cloud have made them trusted figures in the community, say their vision is centered on honoring the past while creating memorable new experiences on the water.

Honoring Heroes: Understanding the Difference Between Memorial Day and Veterans Day Finals in NYC
In the United States, there are two very significant days dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces – Memorial Day and Veterans Day. While both commemorate the sacrifices of military personnel, they have distinct purposes and observances.
As we reflect on these important occasions, it’s crucial to understand their unique meanings and the profound impact they have on our nation.
The Difference Between Memorial Day and Veterans Day: Memorial Day – Remembering the Fallen: Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in military service to the country.
The holiday, initially called Decoration Day, originated after the Civil War to honor Union and Confederate soldiers who lost their lives.
Memorial Day serves as a solemn occasion to visit cemeteries and memorials to pay respects to the fallen, with a national moment of remembrance at 3:00 PM local time.
AAA Offers Free Tow to Go Service through Memorial Day Weekend in Florida
As AAA prepares to assist over 378,000 drivers nationwide with car trouble during Memorial Day weekend, it also aims to keep impaired drivers off the road with its Tow to Go program. The Auto Club Group is activating Tow to Go in Florida, offering a confidential safe ride for would-be impaired drivers and their vehicles.
For more than 25 years, Tow to Go has removed nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from U.S. roads. When someone calls Tow to Go, a tow truck transports the vehicle and its owner to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. This service is free, whether the caller is a AAA member or not.
Tow to Go will be active through Tuesday, May 27. Free confidential rides are available to both AAA members and non-members.
Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group, emphasized, “By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or impairing medications. However, we remind people to treat Tow to Go as a last resort. Instead, make advanced plans for a safe ride home, because you do not want to be remembered on Memorial Day as the person who made the fatal mistake of driving impaired.”

New Era Begins for Fire Station 43 as Osceola County Celebrates Groundbreaking
Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS, alongside District 3 Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington, county leaders, and project partners, officially broke ground on the future site of Fire Station 43 in Campbell City—signaling the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of the county’s most established and dedicated fire stations.
“Station 43 is an institution in this community,” Osceola County Commission Vice Chairman and District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington said. “We are so proud that this new facility will give them the space and the resources to continue that tradition of service for many years to come.”
Station 43 has been serving the community in Campbell City for decades, originally founded as the all-volunteer Campbell City Fire Department; when OSCFR was created in 1989, the station was brought into the department and remained a volunteer station for several years. The station became a “combination” station several years later when a paid-professional EMS rescue unit was added, transitioning to full around-the-clock staffing in 2002.
“The new fire station stands as a lasting symbol to the commitment we have for public safety,” said District 1 Commissioner Peggy Choudhry. “This new home for Station 43 will not only provide comfort and security to our residents and visitors but also serve as a proud and empowering space for our dedicated firefighters and paramedics.”

Triple Crown for St. Cloud: Bulldogs Sweep OBC All-Sports, Academics, and Community Service
St. Cloud High was the big winner Thursday night as the Bulldogs won the Orange Belt Conference All-Sports Trophy for the 2024-25 school year and followed it up by being claiming the Academic Award for the highest cumulative grade point average among its athletes and also took home a Community Service trophy.
“Incredible year for the Bulldogs,” Athletics Director Bryan Smart said. “We have been so close the last couple of years for the all-sports award, so it feels good to come out on top. While winning the All-Sports Award was a goal, the academic and community service awards means so much more. I am proud of all our coaches and the effort our athletes put in this year — both on the field, in the classroom, and inside the community.”
Trailing Harmony 97-96 heading into the spring season, the Bulldogs posted champions in boys’ weightlifting, boys’ and girls’ track and softball to edge the Longhorns for the team title (156.5-155). Law: Which vehicles are more likely to be involved in serious or fatal accidents?
Sadly, serious and fatal accidents take place on a daily basis in Central Florida. These crashes can happen in a number of ways and can be caused by not following traffic laws, inexperience, intoxication, distracted driving, fatigue, and medical issues.
Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. If you drive out on the roadways, here’s what you need to know about which vehicles have been involved in many of the crashes.

While there are certain factors outside of your control that affect prostate health, such as your age and family history, making healthy lifestyle choices can help prevent prostate problems.
Why Prostate Health Matters
An important part of a man’s reproductive system, the prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The prostate produces fluid that contains enzymes, minerals and proteins that nourish and transport sperm.
Maintaining prostate health is important for men of all ages, but as you get older and risk increases for complications like incontinence, sexual dysfunction and prostate cancer, it’s even more essential.

Orlando Health: Strengthen Your Aging Bones with Smart Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Choices
As you grow older, it is inevitable that your bones will become more fragile. It’s simply part of your body’s natural life cycle. But that doesn’t mean you are powerless to slow the process – or bolster the strength of your bones to avoid osteoporosis.
From the time you are born, your bone tissue is constantly breaking down and rebuilding, through bone remodeling. The process operates at different rates throughout your life.
You reach peak bone mass in your 20s and then hit a period of stability throughout your 30s. But then sometime in your 40s and 50s, your bones start breaking down faster than your body can rebuild them.
