Drive to Make a Positive Difference: Osceola Council on Aging’s Annual Jeep Raffle Returns Beginning July 1
Start your engines! The Osceola Council on Aging has announced the return of its annual Jeep Raffle Fundraiser, beginning July 1. All proceeds from this event go directly towards their programs and services, helping the advocacy agency to continue providing vital assistance to those in our community who need it most. By purchasing tickets, you’ll not only have the opportunity to win a beautiful new Jeep but also make a meaningful impact on the lives of your neighbors in need.
Ticket donations start on July 1, 2024, with each ticket priced at $25. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase, and the more tickets you buy, the greater your chances of winning. The raffle is open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry, excluding executive staff of the Osceola Council on Aging. Tickets can be purchased at designated locations or online through the OCOA official website at osceolagenerations.org.
The raffle drawing will take place on December 31, 2024, at 11 am Eastern Time at 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee, FL 34744. You do not need to be present to win. The winner will be notified immediately by phone and email. If the winner cannot be contacted or fails to claim the prize within 30 days of notification, an alternate winner will be selected. The prize, a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport S, must be accepted as awarded and is non-transferable and non-exchangeable. Kowboys Look To Take Next Step in Girls Volleyball This Season
By any measuring stick, Osceola High has become a state power in the sport of girls volleyball. Under Carrie Palmi, the Kowboys have won numerous district championships of late, racked up multiple 20-win seasons, and have made deep runs into the state tournament – including a Final Four appearance in 2022.
With a junior-dominated squad that is incredibly deep and talented, Osceola could challenge for a state title this year and is off to a flying start, out-scoring opponents 15063 in three-set sweeps of Celebration and Dr. Phillips. But the Kowboys are not the only solid team in Osceola County. Upstart Tohopekaliga, Gateway, Harmony, and St. Cloud have had good seasons in recent years. Here’s a look at this year’s teams:

Veterans 1st Community Partners Coalition to Host Veterans Resource Fair at McCormick Research Institute in St. Cloud in September
In recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, the Veterans 1st Community Partners Coalition (V1CP) will host a special veterans resource event on Saturday, September 21st, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the McCormick Research Institute, located on Rummell Road in St. Cloud, FL.
This event is designed to support veterans and their families by providing access to a wide array of local resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about services and programs related to education, employment, food security, housing, and benefits. In addition, the event will offer information on treatment options for those in need of mental health and medical care.
In keeping with the spirit of community and family, the day will be filled with fun activities for all ages. St. Cloud Police Continue ‘Distracted Driver Reduction’ Initiative to Curb Distracted Driving
St. Cloud is continuing to step up its efforts to promote road safety through the St. Cloud Police Department’s ‘Distracted Driver Reduction’ initiative. Officers are focusing on stopping distracted drivers and enforcing all traffic laws. This initiative aims to emphasize the importance of maintaining safe driving habits, especially as distracted driving—often caused by cell phone use—has become a leading cause of crashes.
In addition to issuing citations, officers are distributing educational pamphlets that highlight the dangers of distracted driving, underscoring the department’s commitment to raising awareness about this growing issue.

Kissimmee Utility Authority’s 2024 Osceola Hurricane Guide is a free, bilingual, and comprehensive preparedness guide offered annually to Osceola County resident that provides a clear and simple way to ensure you and your family are well-prepared for potential severe weather in and around Osceola County.
A partnership between KUA, Osceola County, the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Toho Water Authority and UF IFAS Extension in Osceola County, the handbook includes information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, and a disaster supplies checklist.
The guide can be downloaded in English and Spanish from KUA’s website at kua.com/ storm. Printed copies of the bilingual handbook are now available in KUA’s Carroll Street lobby, located at 1701 W. Carroll St, Kissimmee, FL.
“We urge families to begin reviewing the information in this guide to help them develop a plan to prepare for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season,” said KUA President and General Manager Brian Horton. “As you work on your plan, rest assured that KUA is doing the same. Osceola School District Votes Against Implementing Volunteer Chaplains in Schools Amid Heated Debate
The Osceola County School Board voted 3-2 on Tuesday night to deny a motion to implement chaplains in schools, a decision that followed intense public debate and controversy. The motion, introduced by District 3 Board member Jon Arguello, sought to adopt the Florida Department of Education’s recommendation to bring chaplains into schools, following a recent law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in April aimed at providing spiritual support to students in Florida’s public schools.
