“This conversion will help our residents with affordable, safe, decent, and attainable places to live,” Commissioner Grieb said at the news conference. “We know we have a lot of people who live in hotels, but they’e not always safe, decent, and affordable. We need all three of those items in order to have a safe place to live.”
Osceola County Commissioner Cheryl Grieb presented a $500,000 check to Rev. Mary Lee Downey of Hope Partnership on Tuesday, that will be used to assist in the conversion of a local existing hotel into affordable apartments for low-income residents Grieb pledged the $500,000 from federal targeted recovery effort dollars, part of the County’s planned use of American Rescue Plan funds to assist in developing affordable, safe, decent and attainable places to live.
The $500,000 pledged by the commissioner will be added to the state’s contribution of $500,000 and the $1 million in federal funds already committed to the project. According to Chief Executive Officer with Hope Partnership Mary Lee Downey, the affordable hotel conversion will create at least 30-units for very low, low and moderate income Osceola County residents and will be designated for families at or below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The City of Kissimmee received $500,000 in state funding on Tuesday for its Public Safety Training Facility Annex, a a 5,000 sq. ft. covered training space for an outdoor, authentic environment and specialized training facility. The Kissimmee Police Department, Kissimmee Fire Department, jurisdictional partners, and state entities all use the training facility. The funds were approved in a bill sponsored by Representative Kristen Arrington and Senator Victor Torres. “Public Safety is a priority of mine and the City of Kissimmee. I am proud to bring state funding home to the district, which will assist with the construction of a specialized training facility for our first responders,” said Representative Kristen Arrington.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday that 20 individuals were arrested by FDLE for breaking Florida’s elections laws. All 20 of these individuals were disqualified from voting after they were convicted of murder or a felony sexual offense, but they chose to vote anyway, and now they have all been charged with voter fraud — a thirddegree felony punishable by up to a $5,000 fine and up to 5 years in prison.

Fire PALS CommunityBooks has become a community-wide program where “Little Libraries” Fire PALS boxes are stocked with fire safety information and children’s books at locations throughout the city of St. Cloud.

Apple has released a software updates for its iPhones, iPads and Macs designed to fix two security vulnerabilities known by Apple to be actively exploited by attackers. To install this security update, you can go to the Settings App, then General, then Software Updates.Theupdate includes an important security fix for a WebKit vulnerability that could lead to “arbitrary code execution,” according to Apple. Apple said the WebKit bug could be exploited if a vulnerable device accessed or processed “maliciously crafted web content [that] may lead to arbitrary code execution,” while the second bug allowed a malicious application “to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges,” which means full access to the device.

When a parent is seeking to move a child at least 50 miles away from their current residence, he or she is asking for a relocation. To make this modification to the parenting plan the requesting parent must file a petition for relocation with details about where the child will be moving, the reason for the move, and a post-relocation time-sharing plan.

The Osceola Council On Aging announced Friday, that it would be receiving a $5.69 Million HUD grant for an affordable housing project in BVL called Buen Vecino, which translates to “good neighbor.” The affordable apartments project, scheduled to open in 2023, will benefit Osceola low-income seniors who the Osceola Council on Aging serves for housing, food, and services. Once completed, Buen Vecino will be a one story, 60 one-bedroom apartment development for the low-income older population, 62 years of age or older that make less than $29,000 per year. In addition to the HUD grant, District 2 Osceola County Commissioner Viviana Janer announced that the county would be allocating $3.8 Million to the affordable housing project for seniors. “I am so excited to be here, as this project is a long, long time in coming. The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners is committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing for our residents, including our seniors who struggle financially on a fixed income. We are supporting this much needed project and it couldn’t be located in a better place in Osceola County,” said Commissioner Viviana Janer, Osceola County Board of Commissioners. “Keeping these projects moving forward is a key priority for me, and I am pleased to partner with the Osceola Council on Aging because of their commitment to seniors in our community who urgently need affordable housing.”
With the cost of housing continuing to increase in and around Osceola County, many families and individuals are finding it more and more challenging to find attainable or affordable housing, especially low-income seniors, who are already struggling with inflation and increasing rental expense as they try to make ends meet on fixed incomes.

Coming off one of the county’s most successful athletic years in recent memory, which included multiple state champions in different sports, deep playoff runs, incredible individual performances, high academic achievement in the classroom, and the expansion of athletic opportunities for student athletes — more of the same is expected as the 2022-23 year begins.
High school sports returns to action this week as football teams across Osceola County play their Kickoff Classic exhibition games on Friday night.
“We have just concluded an incredible year in Osceola sports,” County Athletic Director Ryan Adams said. “We had seven of our athletes win individual state championships this year and St. Cloud won a state title in United Basketball. The county saw several schools add new sports in beach volleyball and lacrosse. We had close to 90 senior athletes sign grant-in-aids to play at the next level. All this was accomplished while our athletes continued to excel in the classroom. We look forward to this upward trend continuing in this new school year.” The new school year will come with a lot of newFourchanges.teams (St. Cloud, Celebration, Tohopekaliga and Liberty) will start the season with new football coaches. Long-time Osceola wrestling coach Jim Bird, who produced at least one state champion for 16 consecutive years, stepped down in July, meaning that storied program will also have a new coach. Five of those schools (the four mentioned above plus Osceola) will begin the year with new Directors of Athletics. In addition to new coaches, other changes will be noticeable on the field. Football has eliminated the traditional separation of teams by enrollment (1A-8A) and instead will divide into two divisions called Metro and Suburban. Each division will crown four champions in classes Suburban 1-A to 4A and Metro 1A to 4A. The Metro will consist of school’s from the seven most-populated counties in Florida and will be divided into four classes by population; while the remaining counties – which include Osceola – will play in the Suburban Division. One week into fall camp last year, Harmony head coach Don Simon knew he had something special in freshman linebacker Dalten“AlthoughPhelan.he was young, you could tell he had played the position a lot in youth football and had some good coaching. He has a natural instinct to get to the ball and he simply was not intimidated or fearful of anything. That is something you rarely see in a first year player but there was never any question that he was going to be a starter from day one.”
Not only did Phelan start, but he excelled—leading the Longhorns in total tackles (71). He was also second in tackles-for-loss (15) and tied for third in quarterback sacks (3). His top games included 12 tackles and two sacks against Liberty, eight tackles in a 17-14 win over Palm Bay Heritage and 10 stops with three tackles for loss against Gateway.
“Physically he looked pretty good last year as a freshman, but you could tell he worked his tail off in the weight room to get bigger and stronger. He’s getting ready to start his sophomore season and frankly he already looks like a senior. A lot of the players on this team have already started to look at him as one of the team leaders.”
Although he had an outstanding first season, Simon says the best is yet to come.

The 2022-23 runDisney race season kicks off Nov. 3-6 with the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. The popular race weekend features a 5K, 10K and half marathon, as well as the Disney Two Course Challenge (10K and half marathon) and Post-Race Party.

Nothing cools you down like a bowl of ice cream in the summer. Especially if it’s Florida Mango ice cream! It’s Florida fresh and we think you’ll agree, it’s Positively Delicious! INGREDIENTS • 2 Florida mangoes, diced small•2½ cups Florida sugar • 6 cups whole milk • 2 cups heavy cream • 16 egg yolks • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise • ½ stick unsalted butter • ⅓ cup dark brown sugar • ½ teaspoon cinnamon PREPARATION
Preheat a small pot over medium heat. Add mangoes, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook until butter and sugar are melted, and mangoes have softened. Remove from heat and cool completely. Combine milk, heavy cream, and vanilla bean in a large pot and bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Meanwhile, in a separate mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until completely combined. Temper egg mixture with a third of the hot milk, then slowly pour back into large pot with milk and cream, whisking constantly. Cook over medium heat until custard reaches 180-185 degrees (stir constantly) and is slightly thickened. Strain through mesh strainer into a clean bowl and chill completely (over ice bath or in refrigerator). Pour into ice cream machine and follow manufacturer’s instructions. Approximately 5-10 minutes before ice cream is set, add mango mixture. Place in freezer-safe container and allow to set for at least 2 hours before serving. Mango Ice Cream, It’s

In Florida we’re still in the hot summer months, and that means it’s the perfect time to grill outside. Today we’re talking steak, Florida beef ribeye steak, and we think you’ll agree. It’s Positively Delicious! INGREDIENTS 2 (12 ounce) Florida beef ribeye steaks Sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste 2 (1-tablespoon slices) Florida Herb-Citrus Butter PREPARATION Preheat charcoal or gas grill to medium-high. Season each side of the beef with salt and pepper. Carefully place steaks on the hot grill. Grill the steaks for 2 to 4 minutes on each side. When the desired doneness is reached, remove from the grill, and allow to rest. Serve warm and garnish with herb-citrus butter. Fresh tip: The best way to check if the steak is your preferred temperature is to stick an internal read food-safe thermometer in the thickest part of the steak. For medium-rare, pull the steak out at 110 degrees, medium 120 degrees, medium-well 130 degrees, and cooked well 140 degrees. It’s going to be Positively Delicious!
