Osceola County residents are in for a treat this Easter season with Commissioner Viviana Janer’s Easter Meal Distribution event. Set to take place today, Wednesday, March 27 at 10 a.m., this Osceola County drive-thru event promises to spread joy and support to the community during the festive holiday.

Held at Archie Gordon Memorial Park, located at 420 Buenaventura Blvd in Kissimmee, the event is specially designed for Osceola County residents. Attendees can look forward to receiving a delicious fresh ham along with other essential ingredients for a delightful Easter meal.

Single Mega Millions player in Jersey wins $1.13B jackpot — fifth largest in lottery’s history

After growing for more than 15 weeks, the Mega Millions jackpot finally has its first winner of 2024! A lucky ticket-holder in New Jersey matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – the white balls 7, 11, 22, 29 and 38, plus the gold Mega Ball 4 – to take home the estimated prize of $1.13 billion ($537.5 million cash). It is the fifth largest jackpot in the history of the game, although because jackpots are always based on actual sales, the official jackpot amount will be determined after sales from all 47 participating jurisdictions are finalized on Wednesday morning.

Osceola Magic’s Mac Mcclung Named NBA G League Player Of The Week

The NBA G League recently honored Osceola Magic’s guard, Mac McClung, as the G League Player of the Week for the week ending March 24, 2024. This achievement represents the second time McClung has received this weekly accolade in his career, underscoring his exceptional performance and contribution to the team.

KUA Introduces Cutting-Edge Surge Protection for Enhanced Home Safety

KUA customers are now eligible to sign up for the utility’s new surge protection program, which can protect large appliances from electric surges.

The surge protection device is installed directly on the customer’s meter and diverts high-energy surges that can enter through electric power lines from coming into the home.

Homeowners insurance or renter’s insurance typically doesn’t cover appliance damage caused by electric surges, but customers now have the option to protect expensive appliances through KUA’s Surge Protection Program. Items covered under the program include appliances such as air conditioning equipment, refrigerators, washers and dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, and electric ranges.

The Double C Bar Ranch Blueberry Picking Season commenced with great enthusiasm on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24. Enthusiastic visitors traveled to the Chapman family’s sprawling 30-acre blueberry fields, nestled 15 miles south of St. Cloud on the way to Kenansville, eager to partake in the annual harvest. This season introduced an exciting array of culinary delights, including savory brats, an assortment of newly crafted blueberry jams, and a uniquely flavorful blueberry hot sauce, all of which received rave reviews from Positively Osceola. Celebration Storm Look to Repeat as Tennis Champions in Osceola County

When it comes to the sport of tennis, Celebration has been top dog in the county for a long time. It’s boys team has won the last six Orange Belt Conference championships and 11 of the last 14; while the Lady Storm have won seven of the last nine, including taking the team championship in each of the last two years. So it is no surprise that Celebration will be favored to repeat when the 2024 Orange Belt Conference Tennis Championships are contested with the quarterfinals and semifinals beginning this Saturday (Mar. 23) at Kissimmee Oaks Courts at 8 a.m. The finals are slated for this coming Tuesday (Mar. 26) at Celebration High at 4 p.m.

Spring Break Ends for Osceola County Schools, Full Week of Sports Action Ahead!

With Osceola County schools on spring break last week, there was little action on the field. That changes this week as a full slate of contests is scheduled in a multitude of sports. Here are the highlights of what to look for this week from Positively Osceola!

TRACK

St. Cloud will make the five hour trip to Tallahassee this week to participate in the FSU Relays (Mar. 22-23), where more dozen Bulldog athletes have qualified to face some of the top high school talent in both Florida and the Southeast. High jumpers Jahleek Lawrence and Jonathan Rodriguez lead the list of St. Cloud qualifiers. Lawrence is undefeated in six meets this season and is ranked #1 in the state. St. Cloud’s 4 x 800 relay team of Kyla Perez, Alisson Sandoval, Jalissa Yarborough, Jada Shroyer will also compete in the meet. They are coming off a dominating performance at last week’s Kowboy Invitational, where they won the event by more than 30 seconds.

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital doctor performs first laparoscopic nephrectomy – kidney removal surgery

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital’s Dr. Sarat Sabharwal performed the hospital’s first laparoscopic nephrectomy this month, a milestone for patient care.

Nephrectomy, or removal of a kidney, may be necessary when a patient has recurrent kidney infections, irreversible damage, long-term obstruction or tumors that indicate kidney cancer. Laparoscopic nephrectomy – a minimally invasive approach – uses tiny incisions in the abdomen that result in decreased blood loss, less pain, plus a shorter hospital stay and recovery. Many patients are able to return to full activity within 3-4 weeks after surgery.

The most common type is osteoarthritis, which causes degradation of the protective cartilage covering the ends of your bones. Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. The average adult has from two to three colds a year, mostly between September and May, and it typically takes seven to 10 days to recover. More than 200 viruses can cause cold symptoms — runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing or minor sore throat, for example. Most colds (about 40 percent) are caused by rhinoviruses and produce an illness that is mild if you are otherwise healthy.
