St. Bulldogs Take Soldier City Classic and Coveted Brass Bugle Trophy After Blanking Harmony 21-0 For the fourth time in five years and the 10th time since the rivalry began in 2005, the Brass Bugle Trophy is headed back to St. Cloud High. The Bulldogs earned it with a 21-0 win over arch-rival Harmony in the 19th playing of the Soldier City Classic before a big crowd at Austin Tindall Park on Friday night.

“That’s an ugly trophy,” a grinning St. Cloud coach Mike Short said as his players passed it around for pictures. “But it’s going to look great in our trophy case for the next year. We’ve had a really good season but this is the game that makes it a great season.”

Somewhat surprisingly, it was the Bulldog defense and not its potent offense that led the way to the victory. The Dogs limited Harmony to just 113 yards in the game, forced three turnovers and turned them away from the red zone three times in the first half for the win.

Taking advantage of some mistakes, it was the Longhorns that had the best chance of scoring in the first half.

NEWS Florida Gas Prices Move Lower After Rising 10 Cents Last Week, Uncertainty Ahead Florida gas prices increased last week, but are moving lower once again. After tying the 2023-low of $3.22 per gallon last Monday, the state average shot up 10 cents to $3.32 per gallon, by Wednesday.

The increase was in response to the rise in crude oil prices, which occurred two weeks ago. In Osceola, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.10.

Fortunately, crude oil prices fell last week, and gas prices are doing the same.

Florida’s state average declined 4 cents per gallon, Friday-Sunday. The state average was $3.29 per gallon on Sunday. Visit GasPrices.AAA.com to view today’s daily average price.

Osceola Sheriff’s Office Unveils New K9 Partnerships to Heighten Search and Rescue Operations for Missing Persons Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Senior Resource Alliance and Scent Evidence K9 to utilize two new scent discriminate bloodhounds and scent preservation kits to find people more quickly who go missing, Sheriff Marcos Lopez announced Wednesday.

As part of this new partnership, K9 brothers Doc and Luke will be joining the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, thanks to the Senior Resource Alliance. Doc and Luke were trained by Scent Evidence K9 specially to search and locate missing individuals by using a person’s unique scent.

A Hauntingly Beautiful Affair: Osceola Clerk & Comptroller Kelvin Soto Hosts the Second Annual Halloween Group Wedding The Osceola County Historical Courthouse set the stage for a magical morning of love and union this Halloween, casting an enchanting aura over the ceremony. Among the historic walls, seven couples took part in this extraordinary celebration, with six pairs vowing to stay together “until death do us part,” while one couple reaffirmed their eternal bond during the 10:00 a.m. wedding, vow renewal, and subsequent reception.

The esteemed Kelvin Soto, Esq., Osceola Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller, presided over the ceremony. Lady Bulldogs make history with back-2back-2-back state golf appearances

Tuesday morning.

For a third straight year, the St. Cloud girls’ golf team is headed to the state golf championships and this time they did not need to wait around for an at-large bid. The Lady Bulldogs, behind sophomore Karolyna Adams’ two-over par 74, tied Lake Nona for Class 3A, Region 2 golf championship on

St. Cloud would lose the regional championship in a playoff, as Lake Nona shot a team-collective even par 20 on the first playoff hole; compared to a one-over par 21 by the Lady Bulldogs. Still, the official second place regional finish earned St. Cloud an automatic spot in the FHSAA State Golf Championships, Nov. 10-11.

The 16-team, two-day championship is slated for the Par 72, 5,455 Mission Inn and Resort Golf Club in Howey-In-The-Hills. It marks the first time in Osceola County history that a golf team (boys or girls) qualified for the state championship in three consecutive years, and it also was the first time that the Lady Bulldogs grabbed an automatic bid. In 2021 and 2022, the team finished third in regional play and had to wait until all regional scores were tabulated and ranked to see if they secured one of the eight state-wide atlarge berths.

In 2022, the Lady Bulldogs finished in 10th place overall in the state tournament that was shortened to one round because of inclement weather. Two years ago, the Lady Bulldogs finished 12th behind the strength of a fourth place finish from Morgan Beaulieu—a current starter on Arkansas State’s women’s golf team. It remains the highest individual finish in history by an Osceola County golfer.

Osceola Kowboys Down Titans in Girls Volleyball, Jupiter Up Next in State Playoffs Occasionally a loss can also provide some needed momentum.

Such was the case during Saturday afternoon’s FHSAA Class 7A, Region 2 semifinal, when the Osceola volleyball team used a third game loss to Olympia as incentive to win big in the fourth as the Kowboys advanced to the regional championship game with a 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17 victory over the Titans.

The win propelled the Kowboys (23-6) into a Wednesday evening showdown at Jupiter (24-3), where they will attempt to win their second consecutive regional championship. The Warriors, the region’s top seed, earned their way to the title game with a five-set win over Ft. Pierce Central.

Osceola Kowboys Punch Ticket to Playoffs with District Title Shutout Win Over Tohopekaliga Tigers

For a 17th consecutive year, the Osceola Kowboys are headed to the state football playoffs. They got there on Friday night, beating Tohopekaliga in dominating fashion, 38-0, to claim the Class 4S, District 10 Championship.

“I thought we were just trying to be a little too fancy in the first half,” Osceola Coach Eric Pinellas said about his team that was clinging to a narrow 10-0 at intermission. “Give them some credit, they were running a lot of blitzes and pinching their linebackers from the outside and unfortunately we were running right into that defense. In the second half, we just decided to get physical and run right at them.”

Parkinson’s Support in Action: Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute offering free community exercise classes for Parkinson’s patients Local patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease now have access to free fitness classes tailored to their medical needs, thanks to the Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute and grant funding from the Parkinson Association of Central Florida. Patients do not need a physician referral to join the classes.

The fitness classes meet every other Monday from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm near the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute, with Orlando Health neurologic physical therapists providing the exercise instruction. The classes include aerobic exercise, strength training, balance training, and more. Attendees should wear active clothes and bring water. They are also asked to have a care partner attend with them if they require additional physical assistance.

Osceola County Commissioners Herald Bright Futures for 2024 High School Graduates with Osceola Prosper

In its first 2 years, Osceola Prosper, a program that offers two years of paid college or technical training for every high school graduate in the County, has seen some 5,000 residents take advantage of the life-changing opportunity to improve their careers and future. On friday, County Commissioners, along with Osceola County School District and Valencia College officials, announced across the county that for the 3rd year, those set to graduate in the Spring of 2024 will be able to take advantage of the program.

NEWS St. Cloud Mayor Nathan Blackwell Appointed to Florida League of Cities Legislative Committee City of St. Cloud Mayor Nathan Blackwell has been appointed to serve on the Florida League of Cities Legislative Committee as the Tri-County League of Cities representative.

The Legislative Committee reviews the recommended legislative priorities of the League’s five legislative policy committees. Based on this review, the Legislative Committee votes on a proposed Legislative Platform, which is then submitted to the full League membership for consideration and adoption.

Mayor Blackwell also serves on FLC’s Board of Directors, and is the first St. Cloud Council member to do so.

But before you start working out, it helps to know which bone-strengthening exercises deliver the greatest benefit.

Osteoporosis — bone-density loss — affects one in three women older than 50, and one in five men will experience osteoporotic fractures in their lifetimes.

Osteoporosis slowly weakens your bones to the point where they easily break. It’s referred to as a “silent disease” because you often don’t know it’s happening until you break a bone. Osteoporosis commonly causes fractures in the hip, spine and wrist.

WHY WE LOSE BONE MASS As a living tissue, bones continually rebuild themselves to maintain strength. How? Your body breaks down existing bone and then restores it with new bone tissue.

It also helps to understand “the bone turnover cycle.” When you’re young, you build more bone than you lose. But as you age, you start to lose more bone than you build.

For women, bone loss increases after menopause as they lose hormones, causing a precipitous decline in bone mineral density. For men, especially those with low testosterone, osteoporosis usually happens a bit later — generally around age 65 or 70.

The development of osteoporosis is accelerated during this natural aging process and causes the bones to become thinner, more brittle and subject to breaks during a fall.
