Osceola Lady Kowboys Down Lake Nona In Straights Sets to Win Girls Volleyball District Championship Osceola’s one-two punch of sophomores Jordin Southall and Cate Palmi combined for 36 kills as the Lady Kowboys won the Class 7A, District 6 championship Thursday night with a straight set win over Lake Nona, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21.

As top seed, Osceola was listed as the home team but Lake Nona was the host-team for the District Tournament – which put the Lady Kowboys in a hostile environment. Still, Osceola – ranked eighth in the state in Class 7A and second in the region – dominated the match from the beginning.

Florida Gas Prices Fall to 3-Month Lows after Dropping 15 Cents Last Week Florida gas prices sank to their lowest levels in three months. On Monday, pump prices are averaging $3.32 per gallon of regular unleaded in the state after declining 15 cents last week. Osceola County drivers are paying less at $3.25 per gallon, while the average price for a gallon nationally is $3.60.

Florida’s gas prices have mostly been on a downward trend through the past four weeks. During that time, the state average fell from $3.69/g to $3.33/g.

“The discount at the pump has largely been driven by falling oil prices,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, the downward trend could stall soon. Ongoing geopolitical tensions allowed oil prices to regain some strength last week, though they remain below price levels we saw three weeks ago.

KUA Seeks Student Art Entries for 2024 Energy Conservation Calendar Kissimmee Utility Authority invites Osceola County students to showcase their artistic expression to promote energy conversation in the utility’s 30th Annual Calendar Art Contest.

The annual contest is open to Osceola County students enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade, including public, charter, private, and homeschooled students.

In their entry, students are asked to use crayons, markers, or paints to depict an energy conservation message. A panel of local judges will select the 12 best entries to be used for each calendar month, which will be featured in the utility’s 2024 calendar.

Badillo, Celebration Storm Boys Take Golf Crowns, St. Cloud Lady Bulldogs Win 7th Straight Royal St. Cloud Golf Club was the scene of some Monday golf drama, as Celebration’s Ethan Badilla took the boys’ Orange Belt Conference (OBC) championship on Monday — edging out St. Cloud’s Espn Pool in a two-hole playoff. The team title was equally close, as Celebration needed to go to the counting score from their fourth golfer to pull away from St. Cloud for the team title.

“Really proud of my teammates,” Badilla said of his team’s first OBC team title since 2018 and just their fourth in school history. “We set several goals this season and winning the OBC championship was the first. Now we need to get a good week of practice in and get ready for districts.”

Parkinson’s Support in Action: Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute offering free community exercise classes for Parkinson’s patients Local patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease now have access to free fitness classes tailored to their medical needs, thanks to the Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute and grant funding from the Parkinson Association of Central Florida. Patients do not need a physician referral to join the classes.

The fitness classes meet every other Monday from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm near the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute, with Orlando Health neurologic physical therapists providing the exercise instruction. The classes include aerobic exercise, strength training, balance training, and more. Attendees should wear active clothes and bring water. They are also asked to have a care partner attend with them if they require additional physical assistance.

Osceola County Commissioners Herald Bright Futures for 2024 High School Graduates with Osceola Prosper

In its first 2 years, Osceola Prosper, a program that offers two years of paid college or technical training for every high school graduate in the County, has seen some 5,000 residents take advantage of the life-changing opportunity to improve their careers and future. But before you start working out, it helps to know which bone-strengthening exercises deliver the greatest benefit.

Osteoporosis — bone-density loss — affects one in three women older than 50, and one in five men will experience osteoporotic fractures in their lifetimes.

Osteoporosis slowly weakens your bones to the point where they easily break. It’s referred to as a “silent disease” because you often don’t know it’s happening until you break a bone. Osteoporosis commonly causes fractures in the hip, spine and wrist.

WHY WE LOSE BONE MASS As a living tissue, bones continually rebuild themselves to maintain strength. How? Your body breaks down existing bone and then restores it with new bone tissue.

It also helps to understand “the bone turnover cycle.” When you’re young, you build more bone than you lose. But as you age, you start to lose more bone than you build.

For women, bone loss increases after menopause as they lose hormones, causing a precipitous decline in bone mineral density. For men, especially those with low testosterone, osteoporosis usually happens a bit later — generally around age 65 or 70.

The development of osteoporosis is accelerated during this natural aging process and causes the bones to become thinner, more brittle and subject to breaks during a fall.
