Slam Dunk for Community: Orlando Magic’s New Look for Kissimmee’s Chambers Park Basketball Court

An exciting event took place at Chambers Park in Kissimmee on Wednesday. The city unveiled the park’s newly renovated basketball court, a collaborative effort between the Orlando Magic, AdventHealth, GAF, and the city. Former Orlando Magic players and current Magic Ambassadors Bo Outlaw and Nick Anderson were in attendance, alongside current Magic players Chuma Okeke and Caleb Houstan, and of course, Orlando Magic team mascot Puff the Magic Dragon was there as well!

The basketball court design at Kissimmee City Chamber Park Community Center commemorates the Orlando Magic’s 35th anniversary and is inspired by the classic court the team plays select games on at the Kia Center. At the court dedication 60 youth from the Chambers Park Community Center afterschool program were in attendance to be part of a basketball clinic on the new court and meet the Orlando Magic stars!

“We are honored to hit the court with community partners like the Orlando Magic and AdventHealth, united in our mission to enrich the lives of the youth of Kissimmee” says City Manager Mike Steigerwald.

Baker Leads St. Cloud Bulldogs to Upset Win Over Harmony Longhorns in Boys Basketball With star player Alex Springs sitting on the bench in foul trouble for long stretches of the game, sophomore center Malaki Baker scored eight points, blocked six shots and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the St. Cloud Bulldogs to a 49-42 upset win over Harmony in boys basketball on Wednesday night.

“He (Baker) is really starting to come into his own,” St. Cloud coach Tommy Billiteri said. “When Alex had to sit down early, his play kept us in the game. Malaki was certainly was a difference maker tonight but you could say that about a bunch of our guys. Everyone gave maximum effort we had some different guys make key plays when we needed them the most.”

Texas, Florida Top Growth States Again in 2023, According to U-Haul Migration Data Trends Florida ranked just behind Texas in netting the largest number of movers in oneway U-Haul equipment in 2023, marking the third consecutive year the two states have finished atop the U-Haul Growth Index. After Texas and Florida were North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Idaho, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Virginia round out the top 10 states for growth.

For the fourth year in a row, California reflected the largest net loss of one-way movers. Other bottom-five states for growth are Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois and Massachusetts. New York ranks 43rd.

U-Haul calculates growth states by each state’s net gain (or loss) of one-way equipment from customer transactions in a calendar year. The U-Haul Growth Index is compiled from more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul truck, trailer and U-Box moving container transactions that occur annually across the U.S. and Canada.

“While one-way transactions in 2023 remained below the record-breaking levels we witnessed immediately following the pandemic, we continued to see many of the same geographical trends from U-Haul customers moving between states,” said John “J.T.” Taylor, U-Haul International president. “Migration to states in the Southeast and Southwest is still very pronounced. Demand for one-way equipment out of certain markets in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast mirrors what we have seen during recent moving cycles. Wherever DIY customers go, and whatever mobility and selfstorage needs they have in 2024, U-Haul will be there with solutions.”

Osceola Magic Suffer Defeat Against Motor City Cruise The Osceola Magic fell to the Motor City Cruise at the Wayne State Fieldhouse 130-113 Tuesday night.

Mac McClung and Kevon Harris combined for 53 points for Osceola. D.J. Wilson also contributed a doubledouble, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the losing effort.

“It’s been a tough start to the road trip,” Magic Head Coach Dylan Murphy stated.

“Our game plan and discipline were much better this game; they hit a lot of difficult shots. We will have to look at the film; we have another chance to improve on Thursday.”

Despite Osceola’s solid 41.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc, the Magic faced a significant challenge on the boards, getting outrebounded 49-37 by the Cruise. Trailing by as much as 24 at one point, the Magic were able to cut the deficit to 10 with 4:19 left in the third quarter. However, they were unable to secure a victory in the end.

The Osceola Magic (1-3), NBA G League Affiliate of the Orlando Magic, will face the Motor City Cruise, on Thursday, January 11 at the Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit at 7:00 PM. The game will stream ESPN+.

Nephrectomy, or removal of a kidney, may be necessary when a patient has recurrent kidney infections, irreversible damage, long-term obstruction or tumors that indicate kidney cancer.

Laparoscopic nephrectomy – a minimally invasive approach – uses tiny incisions in the abdomen that result in decreased blood loss, less pain, plus a shorter hospital stay and recovery. Many patients are able to return to full activity within 3-4 weeks after surgery.

Mecum Kissimmee, World’s Largest Collector Car Auction to Return to Kissimmee January 2-14 Mecum Kissimmee 2024, the 25th anniversary celebration of The World’s Largest Collector Car Auction is returning this January 2-14 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida, and according to Mecum officials, there will be more vehicles, more road art, and more exhibits to view, than ever before!

The car count for the anniversary of the world record-setting event is poised to outpace that of previous years, with the diverse selection including American muscle cars, ‘50s classics, Corvettes, exotics, trucks, Hot Rods, customs and more. Live coverage of the auction will be available for viewing on MotorTrendTV and MotorTrend+.

How many times have you wished your baby could tell you what’s wrong instead of crying and leaving you to guess? Baby Sign Language allows babies as young as 6 months old to communicate their needs instead of crying.

• Your baby can learn how to signal: • Hunger • The desire to keep eating or be finished

• Temperature (too cold or too hot) • The need for a hug WHAT IS BABY SIGN LANGUAGE? Baby Sign Language uses American Sign Language (ASL) hand gestures and facial movements without the grammar and sentence structure of ASL to help babies communicate.

WHEN TO TEACH BABY SIGN LANGUAGE You may have heard that teaching your Baby Sign Language delays learning to talk, but that’s not true. In fact, using baby signs actually supports language development because babies can move their bodies consistently to make signs much earlier than they learn to use their voices. Baby Sign Language serves as a visual model for upcoming speech and language.

The best time to begin teaching your infant Baby Sign Language is as soon as you notice an active interest in communicating with you. Typically, this happens when your child waves at you or can point to desired items. This can be as early as 6 months old, but the average age is usually 8 or 9 months. Most babies will start signing back somewhere between 10 and 14 months.

NEWS City of St. Cloud Offers Small Businesses Community Development Block Grants Up to $30,000 The City of St. Cloud is investing up to $328,100 through its Community Development Block Grant program, funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, to assist any small businesses in the City with financial assistance for eligible economic development activity, including job creation and/or retention.

“There was some confusion caused by an error on the application form, but we want to reassure our local businesses that these grants are available to any local business, not just those in the downtown area,” said Economic Development Director Antranette Forbes. “We remain committed to helping all our businesses prosper as our city continues to grow.”
