St. Cloud Bulldogs Glide Past Tohopekaliga, Sets up OBC Rematch With Gateway Panthers

On paper, it looked like a Thursday night’s OBC semifinal matchup between secondseeded St. Cloud (15-6) and third seeded Tohopekaliga (11-1) could be a close game.

But paper and reality turned out to be two totally different things as the Lady Bulldogs hit their first five shots of the game, built a big lead and cruised to a 63-30 win over the Lady Tigers.

The win sends St. Cloud into tomorrow night’s championship game against topseeded Gateway, who also faced little resistance in their 52-21 semifinal win over Celebration. The championship game will be a neutral site affair at Tohopekaliga at 7 p.m. The game will be preceded by a 5 p.m. third place game between the Tigers and Celebration.

St. Cloud came out smoking hot in the game against the Tigers.

Senior captain Emily Lockey nailed her first two shots from 3-point land – scoring 12 points in the quarter – as St. Cloud jumped out to a 27-6 lead after one. Lockey did not miss a shot in the period and also had four rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists in the quarter.

But Lockey was not the only one with a hot hand. Arianna Viera had a pair of threes and Danigzy Mantilla and Vanessa Vors added threes, as St. Cloud made 10 of 16 field goals in the period – including six from beyond the arc.

The sock and shoe drive’s goal is to provide warmth and comfort by collecting new or gently used shoes and new socks for those in need in Osceola County.

Texas, Florida Top Growth States Again in 2023, According to U-Haul Migration Data Trends Florida ranked just behind Texas in netting the largest number of movers in oneway U-Haul equipment in 2023, marking the third consecutive year the two states have finished atop the U-Haul Growth Index. After Texas and Florida were North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Idaho, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Virginia round out the top 10 states for growth.

For the fourth year in a row, California reflected the largest net loss of one-way movers. Other bottom-five states for growth are Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois and Massachusetts. New York ranks 43rd.

U-Haul calculates growth states by each state’s net gain (or loss) of one-way equipment from customer transactions in a calendar year. The U-Haul Growth Index is compiled from more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul truck, trailer and U-Box moving container transactions that occur annually across the U.S. and Canada.

“While one-way transactions in 2023 remained below the record-breaking levels we witnessed immediately following the pandemic, we continued to see many of the same geographical trends from U-Haul customers moving between states,” said John “J.T.” Taylor, U-Haul International president. “Migration to states in the Southeast and Southwest is still very pronounced. Demand for one-way equipment out of certain markets in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast mirrors what we have seen during recent moving cycles. Wherever DIY customers go, and whatever mobility and selfstorage needs they have in 2024, U-Haul will be there with solutions.”

Orlando Health Network launched innovative care models in 2023 Orlando Health Network launched various innovative health care models in 2023 to enhance the quality of patient care. Since its inception in 2013, the network has generated more than $165 million in savings to patients, payers, employers and taxpayers, according to the Clinically Integrated Network Value Report 2023.

The recently released 2023 report details how the network, part of the Orlando Health hospital system, launched multiple initiatives during 2023 to ensure that the nearly 300,000 patients it serves in Central and West Florida receive timely, efficient, and effective medical care from more than 6,600 multispecialty providers.

“Our 2023 Clinically Integrated Network Value Report showcases our myriad innovative care models, clinical and quality programs, and strong performance across value-based arrangements in the past year,” said Erik Walker, MD, board chairman, Orlando Health Network. “Now serving nearly 300,000 patients, Orlando Health Network achieved notable accomplishments for the tenth year in a row through the thoughtful collaboration with our dedicated providers and health system partners. On behalf of our network, I am once again humbled to share these efforts and their accompanying achievements.”

Initiatives launched by the network in 2023 include the Orlando Health Support Team for Aftercare and Resources Outpatient Centers, which are designed to effectively manage the post-hospitalization and advanced pharmacy needs of patients.

NEWS KUA to Host Free Movie in the Park Featuring ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse’ at Kissimmee’s Lakefront Park Kissimmee Utility Authority, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee, will host a free Movie in the Park event, Friday, Feb. 2 at the Veterans Lawn of Kissimmee Lakefront Park as part of KUA’s annual 6-month Movie in the Park series.

The event will feature “Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse,” shown on a giant 50-foot screen.

Activities begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The movie will also feature closed captioning for the hearing impaired.

KUA’s inflatable Kids Power Zone, a craft station, a photo booth, free popcorn, and prize giveaways will all be part of tonight’s free event. Onsite concessions will also be available.

96-unit affordable housing project breaks ground in West Kissimmee, Osceola County and City of Kissimmee help fund development A $33.9 million 96unit affordable housing community is coming to West Vine Street in Kissimmee that will consist of four threestory buildings and a free standing clubhouse with a pool, cabana and other amenities. Osceola County is provided $4.5 million in financing, along with the City of Kissimmee contributing another $500,000.

SPORTS Osceola Magic set two franchise scoring records in victory over Westchester Knicks Thursday Night at OHP The Osceola Magic broke two franchise records at Silver Spurs Arena Thursday night, setting a new high in points scored in a half (86) and points scored in a game in the 153-130 victory.

Jett Howard led the charge with a game-high 32 points in the team’s fourth-straight victory.

Mac McClung had a double-double, scoring 24 points, 14 assists and adding five rebounds.“I’m having a great time; I’m playing with the best players in the G League,” McClung said. “This team is overloaded with talent; there are a lot of great scorers, so I have to make sure everyone gets fed where they want. There’s something lucky in this building.”

D.J. Wilson also collected a double-double, contributing 28 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

“Tonight shows how special we can be when the ball is moving,” Wilson said. “No one is looking for themselves on this team. When we saw the box score at halftime, we were surprised. We always have the next-up mentality. We know we can be the best team in the G League when it’s all said and done. We lost a few guys on the team at the beginning of the season; we just needed to adjust to the changes.”

The Magic took off in the second quarter, outscoring the Knicks 49-30. The 86-point first half total set a new franchise record for points in a half, breaking the previous record of 78 points set on November 1, 2022, against the Texas Legends.

Seven Magic players scored in double digits, combining for an impressive shooting percentage of 56.6% from the field and 45.2% from beyond the arc. The Magic’s total score of 153 points in the game also set a franchise record, surpassing the previous mark of 143 points set on November 22, 2023, against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Pain and swelling in your knee –one of the body’s most often injured joints – can have a wide range of causes, both traumatic and nontraumatic. Figuring out the root of your discomfort can be a challenge, since the symptoms are often the similar, regardless of the underlying cause.

Among the most common culprits are arthritis and torn meniscus. Both can cause a buildup of fluid in and around the knee joint.

For most people, determining the difference between these two afflictions is difficult, if not impossible. Often, it requires a visit to your primary care physician or an orthopedist to get an accurate diagnosis.

Still, there are some telltale signs that could suggest what is causing your pain.

Arthritis in the Knee Arthritis is inflammation of the joint, and osteoarthritis is the most common type found in the knee. Symptoms often appear after the age of 50 and could slowly erode the thin layer of cartilage that protects and cushions the bones found in your knee joint.

As that cartilage wears away, you lose that protective layer, which narrows the joint space. Your body responds to that irritation with a fluid buildup that causes swelling and further discomfort. Among the symptoms: • Swelling and stiffness in the joint make it difficult to move your knee • Symptoms are worse in the morning or after resting • Pain flares up after vigorous activity • You may feel a clicking or grinding in your knee, caused by loose pieces of cartilage • Your knee may feel like buckling because of the pain • Changes in the weather may cause increased pain
