Co-curricular Opportunities
Portsmouth High Prep School has a reputation for commitment to academic excellence and encouraging girls to be creative, independent and ambitious. This ethos is supported through our co-curricular programme.
Our girls are given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities which are held during lunch breaks, before and after school. This booklet outlines the extensive range of enrichment and co-curricular activities on offer this term.
Broadening Horizons
Participation in co-curricular activities plays an important part of school life and we strongly encourage all our girls to participate in one or more of the activities on offer.
Encouraging Team Spirit and Social Skills
Learning to be a team player is an essential life skill and many cocurricular activities, from singing in a choir to playing hockey, require working together as a team and relating to peers in a social way.
Teaching Time Management
Portsmouth High Prep School’s cocurricular activities require pupils to organise their time so that they can participate in activities and succeed in school, whilst still finding time to eat and rest.
Building Confidence
When given opportunities to learn and excel in an activity, pupils build self-confidence, which in turn benefits them in all aspects of their life, including both academic and social settings.
We recognise the importance and value of both the academic curriculum and co-curricular activities in developing a wide range of skills and attributes in an individual. We want to ensure that our girls are well prepared for life outside of school. At PHS we encourage participation, and hope that the girls will have a great deal of fun too.
Mr Graeme Oliver Head of Enrichment

Co-curricular Activities Programme
We look forward to our new activities programme starting Tuesday 9 April and we hope that your daughter will take advantage of the great variety of clubs on offer both during and after school. The activities will run throughout the term, unless otherwise specified. Homework Club and Aftercare will be available from the first day of term.
Most after school activities will be charged at £5.50 per session. There are some exceptions to this, for example horse riding and cookery, where an outside provider is used.
After school activities begin at 3.40pm and end at 4.40pm. Aftercare will serve a snack and then run until 6.00pm at no additional charge if pre booked.
The school will need to know that your daughter will be attending Aftercare by 2.00pm at the latest on any given day. If a pupil is not booked in or out by this time, you will incur a £10 charge. Please note that there is also a standing charge of £10 for
after 6.00pm collection.
Please see the activities programme listed on the following pages. Log onto myEVOLVE.online and book your daughters’ activities. Activities are all allocated on a first come first serve basis. Waiting lists are available for most activities.
If you are paying by credit or debit card, please complete payment using myEVOLVE. For all other methods of payment, your myEVOLVE account will be credited when the payment is received.
You can still pay by childcare vouchers, cash and BACS. Please book online using myEVOLVE without using the credit/debit card facility. When sending or transferring a payment, please clearly reference your daughter’s name and chosen activities.
Should payment not be received in 5 working days, your daughter’s space will be made available for booking.
Clubs support the academic curriculum and develop life skills and at PHS we offer exciting clubs that will support your child’s interests both in and out of school life. We pride ourselves on helping girls to generate, reveal, develop and share talents.
