LAST MATCH RECAP The Timbers registered their league-leading 12th clean sheet of the season, holding visiting Sporting Kansas City to just two shots on goal, while earning an 18-8 advantage in total shots, in a scoreless draw before a sellout crowd of 21,144 fans at Providence Park on Sept. 9. Portland produced a strong offensive performance, generating seven shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. With the result, Portland extended its regular-season home unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive games (6-0-4) at Providence Park, dating back to May 2 in a scoreless draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Providence Park opened on April 14, 2011, in front of a sold-out crowd in the Timbers first-ever home match as an MLS team. The club proceeded to sell out all of its regular-season home games in the team’s first four MLS seasons. Spanning the 2013 and 2014 seasons, the Timbers compiled an MLS-club record 22-game unbeaten streak (12-0-10) at Providence Park from April 6, 2013 to June 1, 2014. The streak ranks as the third-longest all-time in MLS history.

HEAD COACH CALEB PORTER Head coach Caleb Porter enters his third season with the club in 2015 after guiding the Portland Timbers to record-setting campaigns in his first two years in MLS. Guiding the team to an impressive turnaround season and the club’s first-ever MLS postseason appearance in 2013, Porter helped direct a record-setting offense in 2014 as the Timbers netted 61 regular-season goals, a club record across all eras. He was announced as the Timbers head coach on Aug. 29, 2012, and joined the club ahead of the 2013 MLS campaign. Porter received the Slats Gill Award for Sportsperson of the Year at the Oregon Sports Awards on March 9, 2014, becoming the fourth soccerrelated figure to receive the award since it was founded in 1957. On Aug. 6, 2014, Porter helped guide the MLS All-Stars to a 2-1 win over German power Bayern Munich in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park in Portland. The 2013 MLS Coach of the Year award winner, Porter has compiled one of the league’s top winning percentages among active MLS head coaches with a 37-23-36 mark (.573) after leading Portland to double-digits wins in each of his first two seasons. Under Porter’s guidance, the Timbers have made Providence Park one of the toughest places to play in the league, registering an impressive regularseason mark of 23-5-20 at Providence Park over the last two-plus seasons. In 2014, the Timbers netted a team-record 61 goals while compiling one of the highest point totals (44) across the final two-thirds of the regular season – recording the highest goal differential (plus-9) of any non-playoff team in MLS history. Portland also made its first appearance in CONCACAF Champions League, contesting matches against Alpha United of Guyana and C.D. Olimpia of Honduras during the competition’s group stage. During Porter’s first season as head coach in 2013, the Timbers assembled one of the biggest turnaround seasons in MLS. In comparison to 2012 totals, the Timbers assembled a 23-point improvement in points and an MLS-record 43-goal improvement in goal differential. Portland’s five losses during the 2013 regular season tied for the fewest in MLS history in a 34-game season and the Timbers led the league with 15 shutouts. The Timbers recorded a 15-game, home unbeaten streak during the 2013 regular season, posting a league-best 11-1-5 home record at Providence Park and an MLS singleseason record 11 home shutouts. In 2013, Portland qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since joining the league in 2011. Additionally, the Timbers made their deepest run in club history in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2013 under Porter’s guidance, reaching the semifinals of the tournament. Prior to joining the Timbers, Porter was one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history during his tenure as head coach at the University of Akron (2006-12). He compiled a career mark of 123-18-17 and was named 2009 NSCAA National Coach of the Year. Porter led the Zips to back-to-back NCAA College Cup appearances (2009, 2010) and the school’s first national title in any sport in 2010. Porter’s coaching career also includes time as the head coach of the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team during 2012 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying and three years as an assistant coach on the U.S. U-18 National Team (2009-11). Porter was an assistant coach for six years (2000-05) at Indiana University. As a player, Porter was the 27th overall pick by the San Jose Clash in the 1998 MLS College Draft. He spent time with San Jose and the Tampa Bay Mutiny before a knee injury ended his professional playing career in 2000. He also played for the U.S. National B Team from 1996-97, winning a bronze medal at the 1997 World University Games. As a player at Indiana, he was a three-year captain and led the Hoosiers to four conference titles. Porter was the runner-up for the 1997 Hermann Trophy. Porter graduated from Indiana in 1998 with a degree in sports management. He and his wife, Andrea, have three children – two sons, Colin and Jake, and a daughter, Stella. ment appearances. As a senior, Porter captained IU to 23 consecutive wins before losing to eventual national champion UCLA in the national semifinals and was the runner-up for the 1997 Hermann Trophy. NEW YORK RED BULLS AT PORTLAND TIMBERS SUNDAY, SEPT. 20, 2015 SCOUTING THE RED BULLS

UPCOMING MILESTONES

Following a quick turnaround, the New York Red Bulls enter Sunday’s match after a 2-1 road loss against the New England Revolution on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Despite overcoming an early one-goal deficit, New York conceded the game-winning goal to New England’s Kelyn Rowe in the 65th minute of a chippy match that featured 37 combined fouls and eight yellow cards. Head coach Jesse Marsch’s side has been in a run of good form despite Wednesday’s loss, earning a 7-2-1 record in its last 10 matches. The Red Bulls have lost just three games since June 24. New York is led by forward Bradley Wright-Phillips, who has registered 14 goals and seven assists this season.

With his next assist, midfielder Jack Jewsbury will move into a tie for 10th place overall on the Timbers all-time career assists chart with Timbers Ring of Honor member Jimmy Conway (1978-80). Jewsbury currently sits in 11th place with 15 assists for Portland since 2011.

WINNING AT HOME The Timbers rank among league leaders with a 7-1-6 overall record at Providence Park during the 2015 season, including a Timbers MLS-club-record-tying streak of five straight wins from May 27-July 5. Portland is unbeaten in its last 10 regular-season home games since May 2. Portland has compiled one of the league’s best home records with an overall mark of 23-5-20 (.691) over the last two-plus seasons since 2013. The Timbers have lost just two home games (112-8) in their last 21 at Providence Park dating back to the 2014 season.

HOME UNBEATEN STREAK The Timbers have put together a 10-game home unbeaten streak, dating back to a draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 2. Portland’s home unbeaten streak is currently the longest active home unbeaten streak in MLS this season and the second-longest streak this season, behind only Sporting Kansas City’s 12-game home unbeaten streak from March 8-Aug. 15.

AGAINST THE EASTERN CONFERENCE The Timbers have compiled three straight wins at home against teams from the Eastern Conference this season with shutouts against D.C. United (1-0 on May 27), the New England Revolution (1-0 on June 6) and Chicago Fire (1-0 on Aug. 7).

KEEPING CLEAN SHEETS Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey ranks first in MLS with 12 clean sheets in 27 appearances this season. Kwarasey, who is in his first season with the Timbers, ranks tied for sixth in wins (11) and sixth in minutes played (2,340). Additionally, Kwarasey ranks fourth in the league with a 1.07 goals-against average.

IN CONTROL According to Opta, Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe is the only player in MLS to have at least 50 dribbles completed and a passing accuracy of at least 85 percent. Nagbe has completed 66 dribbles and has a passing accuracy of 88.16 percent. Additionally, Nagbe ranks in the top eight among all players this season for successful passes inside the opponents’ half of the field (701).

TIMBERS INJURY REPORT OUT: M Ben Zemanski (right ACL surgery) QUESTIONABLE: n/a * - As of Sept. 17, 2015

With his next goal, forward Fanendo Adi will tie the Timbers MLS single-season club record for goals in a season (11), set by midfielder Diego Valeri in 2014. Adi tallied his 10th goal in a 1-0 win against Chicago on Aug. 7 at Providence Park. The single-season club record across all eras is 18 goals scored by Fadi Afash in 2002. Adi’s next goal also will be his 20th career regular-season goal for Portland. Midfielder Darlington Nagbe enters Sunday’s match with 154 career regularseason appearances for the Timbers since 2011. He ranks third overall on the team’s career list of appearances behind only USL defender Scot Thompson (156) and NASL midfielder Willie Anderson (160). Should Nagbe play on Sunday against New York, it will be his 155th career MLS appearance.

CREATING CHANCES The Timbers entered the weekend third overall in MLS with 307 chances created (including assists). Portland is behind just Columbus Crew SC (317) and the Chicago Fire (309). Midfielder Darlington Nagbe ranks first in the league with 53 chances created from open play.

LATE-GAME FOCUS The Timbers are tied for second in the league with 14 goals scored in the final 15 minutes of matches this season. Portland has scored 19 goals in the final 30 minutes, while logging 22 of their 29 goals in the second half through 28 games this season.

PLAYOFF PICTURE With six games remaining on Portland’s regular-season schedule, the Timbers enter the week tied for fifth place on points (41) in the tight Western Conference standings. No team has separated itself from the pack as just seven points separate the No. 1 position (Vancouver, 48) from Portland in the sixth, and final, spot to the postseason from the conference at the start of the week. Additionally, San Jose (40pts) and Houston (35pts) are within striking distance of reaching the MLS Cup Playoffs.

ON THE NATIONAL STAGE The Timbers know how to put on a show for national television - combining with opponents for an average of 3.04 goals per game on national broadcasts since the 2011 season.
