FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE

HOUSING OPTIONS

LIVE IN PORTLAND

Portland State University offers a truly unique campus living experience. You’ll find a home immersed in both an exciting urban setting and a thriving campus life—a place where work and play go hand in hand and the city is your home and your classroom. You’ll be steps away from public transit, music and entertainment, dining, shopping, and more. First year students who live on campus are part of a greater support network within our First Year Experience (FYE) program. Our FYE communities foster strong learning environments and are supported by a team of caring professionals who want to see you succeed. Students are able to meet new friends, access academic support after hours, and have a more well-rounded college experience that extends far beyond the classroom.

WHY LIVE ON CAMPUS? CONVENIENCE

You’re a short walk to classes and all campus resources and can easily take public transportation to run errands and explore the city. Enjoy the perks of getting to live in downtown Portland.

The purpose of the First Year Experience (FYE) is to promote strong learning environments and academic communities, which in turn support academic success and retention. All FYE students will choose a community they want to live in when filling out their housing contract. These communities offer resources and programs that foster student development and aid in the overall transition from high school to college.

ACADEMIC COMMUNITIES Academic communities allow students to take their general education courses with their floormates for the full academic year. Students in these communities build strong connections with one another, galvanizing around a shared interest in a living-learning environment. Below is a list of courses that have been offered over the years. To see a current list of courses and the buildings they are in, visit pdx.edu/housing/freshmen-communities.
