Noticeboard National Walk to School Week!

This years challenge will focus on the walking superpowers that benefit individuals, communities and the planet. Each day pupils will be introduced to a brand new 'Walking Superpower' taking the form of a fun comic book inspired fun. Walking has so many benefits from physical to mental wellbeing; aiding concentration and creativity and creating safer, less polluted and more welcoming streets. News Young Enterprise: Week 3 Over the past weeks, Year 10 have taken part in the Young Enterprise campaign. The product chosen to be manufactured and sold is white tees along with several colours of dye, stencils and other Do-It-Yourself products to satisfy your creative needs. The marketing department has devel-

oped brand new ways to advertise and sell their product.

The packaging and labelling department have been discovering new and intuitive ways to bring the entire product together and ensure the safety of their customers. The entire department has been working extremely hard

to create the neatest, safest and most consistently reliable goods possible. Kieran McKintosh has been the crucial part of the department, designing, printing out, cutting and sticking the packaging onto boxes and generally leading whilst also helping the marketing and finance departments. Nic Bartha was in charge of diluting the dye into smaller containers. The Finance department worked

out this would be more cost effective.

Things are progressing nicely and we are looking forward to the end result!

News New in the Library The Supreme Lie is an intelligent story which will appeal to fans of dystopian novels such as The Hunger Games series. Gloria, a teenage girl from a poor family, works as a maid to Madame Suprema, the tyrannical leader of Afalia. When the Suprema fails to solve the problems caused by cataclysmic weather, she runs away to escape the consequences of the crisis.

Donning the Suprema's distinctive veiled hat, Gloria temporarily steps into her shoes in the hope of solving the problems and helping the people.

Gloria sees this as a chance to right the wrongs of the past but who can she trust and will she see her own family again? Current issues such as global warming and fake news are covered in this engaging read.

Our Year 6 students, Susan, Daniil and Mia are the most knowledgeable tour guides and they can tell you all about Buckingham Palace and London Eye, to name just a few.

Well done for putting so much effort, time and energy into creating such beautiful posters!

News French Y8 students drew cartoons and wrote in French using comparative adjectives. This by Kai Elder.

Sports report The sun was shining, the wicket was ready and Portland Place School’s Under 12 cricket team were off to a flying start to the season with a fabulous victory against Radnor House, winning by a solid 17 runs.

After losing the toss and having been elected to bat first it was a tough start when Radnor’s lead bowler took two quick wickets in the first over, stumping

both Martin Ris and captain Danny Maclean! It looked like it was going to be a tough day at the office but with Tec Hennebry and Harrison BludenellTurpie creating a solid partnership, the Radnor bowlers started to look on the ropes with a number of wide balls racking up. This gave the duo confidence, which they took in their stride, hitting

some beautiful shots to the field before Tec was caught with a fantastic catch, when the ball looked to be flying to the boundary. This saw the PPS students rally around the next few batters with a battling Rafer Moge and Harrison showing some good shot selection and some brilliant composure to build up the confidence that was needed through the

final few overs. In addition, even when

Harrison was caught out, confidence was at a high and the students continued to push the run rate up.

Sports report With the fans on the boundary, looking on it was a classy show from Rafer that got the squad cheering throughout the innings, shouting ‘RUN IT’ with every cracking shot. With the squad hitting a 63 for 8 wickets it was time for the full squad to take the field and show what they had learnt during their lessons on a Tuesday afternoon. With Danny leading the bowling, a steady flow of dot balls meant that Portland Place were in a good place, and bowler after bowler carried on holding off the strike rate of Radnor House.

This was matched with some excellent fielding from Yaquob Behbehani and Zaid Alquraishi, who took a fabulous catch and with some quick thinking stumped out Radnor’s best batter. The stumping by Zaid showed some quick thinking from the Year 6 wicket keeper, whose hands were safe as houses throughout the session. The field was full of confidence with everyone cheering, congratulating and enjoying the game that was going on in front of them. The Win seemed to be secured when a fantastic bowl by Danny in his second over saw the batter chase a dipping ball only to miss the swing and be called LBW by the umpire. This was the point of no return for Radnor as dot ball followed dot ball.

Sports report There was some fabulous fielding by Max Dawson, Jake Gadney and Hazuki Kita, which meant that bowlers like Humphrey Boland could relax and in turn help lead his team to an emphatic victory, with Humphrey bowling an impressive over in his first game of cricket.

There were some nerve-racking moments throughout the match, but it was the communication, the quick fielding and the accurate bowling which in the end secured the victory for Portland. It was a game that was enjoyed not just by the players but also the fans who turned up to support the students.

It was a fabulous all-round team performance and a victory that they can all be proud of. It was a victory that brought a beaming smile to Mr Steward’s face, one that has not been seen since Freddie Flintoff won the ashes in 2005.

Under 15 Football Vs Kew House On Thursday 29th April PPS u15s made their way to Chiswick to take on Kew House School for their much anticipated first football fixture since the autumn term of 2019!

The boys were full of energy from the start, flying around the pitch putting Kew under pressure. In the early stages PPS defended well against some fast and technical Kew attackers but were understandably a bit rusty on the ball. PPS just kept losing the ball for the first 20mins of the first half, putting themselves under intense pressure from Kew. Eventually Kew got their deserved lead with a well taken finish. This sparked PPS into life with new pupil James Harman making some dangerous runs, drawing a number of fouls and Abdallah Saeed looked like he would be a threat if the boys could get him on the ball more. The game evened-out but unfortunately just before half term Kew scored a second.

Sports report

In the second half PPS started to raise their game and see more possession. The boys started to see more of the ball in midfield with year 9 pupil Tom Hallam pulling the strings and setting the tempo. Nicolas Bartha and Sylvan Farmer did a fantastic job martialling the tall and dangerous Kew striker with some excellent tracking and shot blocking. Mid-way through the second half, despite some good play from PPS it was Kew House who scored the all-important third goal. PPS continued to press and create a couple of great chances which they probably should have taken, however the Kew keeper deserves credit for two excellent saves. In the end the boys could just not find the back of the net and Kew nicked one final goal before full time.

The first half was tough, the boys were understandably rusty after

not playing a competitive 11 aside football match for some time but the second half performance was much better. The final score line was harsh on the boys, but it was great to see them back out on the pitch enjoying themselves in a fully competitive match!

Man of the match goes to Mason De’Oliveira who showed neat footwork and was heavily involved in attack and defence. He was also very unlucky not to score a superb long-range effort!
