Japanese Suminagashi Monoprints

Age 13 & up Create gorgeous custom papers or fabrics with this traditional Japanese technique. Suminagashi is a exciting marbleizing technique. In this process, colorful Sumi inks float on the surface of water, then are transferred to a sheet of paper or fabric. The prints created in class can be used to make gifts, cards and simple books, scarves, and textile designs. Class price includes a $70 non-refundable studio and materials fee. Start off making paper sheets from pulp we have made from cotton, recycled paper, and plant materials. Then learn creative ways to explore expressive qualities of papermaking by using embedding, embossing, and laminating methods.
