Citywide Racial Equity Goals and Strategies EQUITY GOAL #1

OVERALL STRATEGIES

We will end racial disparities within city government, so there is fairness in hiring and promotions, greater opportunities in contracting, and equitable services to all residents.

1. Use a racial equity framework: Use a racial equity framework that clearly articulates racial equity; implicit and explicit bias; and individual, institutional, and structural racism.

EQUITY GOAL #2 We will strengthen outreach, public engagement, and access to City services for communities of color and immigrant and refugee communities, and support or change existing services using racial equity best practices.

EQUITY GOAL #3 We will collaborate with communities and institutions to eliminate racial inequity in all areas of government, including education, criminal justice, environmental justice, health, housing, transportation, and economic success.

2. Build organizational capacity: Commit to the breadth and depth of institutional transformation so that impacts are sustainable. While the leadership of electeds and officials is critical, changes take place on the ground, through building infrastructure that creates racial equity experts and teams throughout the city government.

3. Implement a racial equity lens: Racial inequities are not random; they have been created and sustained over time. Inequities will not disappear on their own. It is essential to use a racial equity lens when changing the policies, programs, and practices that perpetuate inequities, and when developing new policies and programs.

4. Be data driven: Measurement must take place at two levels—first, to measure the success of specific programmatic and policy changes; and second, to develop baselines, set goals, and measure progress. Using data in this manner is necessary for accountability.

5. Partner with other institutions and communities: Government work on racial equity is necessary, but insufficient. To achieve racial equity in the community, government needs to work in partnership with communities and institutions to achieve meaningful results.

6. Operate with urgency and accountability: When change is a priority, urgency is felt and change is embraced. Building in institutional accountability mechanisms using a clear plan of action will allow accountability. Collectively, we must create greater urgency and public commitment to achieve racial equity.

Amber Gudaitis spent her childhood in Massachusetts, where she began studying Classical Ballet and music.

During her training, Amber’s primary focus widened to incorporate several forms of contemporary dance, music composition and general fitness. Now active as an instructor and freelance artist, Amber holds a special passion for working with people of all ages.

She encourages a positive learning environment which fosters creativity, imagination and a welcoming atmosphere. In her children’s classes she incorporates props, games, and musical activities. Primary focal points in her adult classes include technique, injury prevention, and an appreciation of all body types and personalities. Amber believes the most effective means of learning is to make classes both informative and fun.

Later registrations accepted through the third practice. Games are held Fridays from 5:30-8:30pm, starting 4/22 at CJCC. Game schedule provided at second practice. Cost is $56.

Rock Climbing

$125 (For ages 5 years and up. Max youth 15) Package includes the use of one classroom with tables and chairs, with access to the traverse rock wall.

$100 (For ages 5 years and under. Max youths 20) Package includes the use of one classroom with tables and chairs, one gymnasium court with the use of indoor park toys and balls.

Pirate or Princess

Sports & Games $125 (For ages 3 years and up. Max youths 20) Package includes the use of one classroom with tables and chairs, one gymnasium court with various sport games.

Summer Camps Preview!

Payment

Unplugged We spend our days engaged in active, creative, and social activities that involve very little or no screen time.

Payment is due prior to the camp start date.

You may pay the entire balance at the time of registration, or you can pay a down payment of $10 per week and schedule your payments to be due Monday prior to the camp’s start date.

Staff

Registration

We hire highly skilled, energetic, and caring people who truly love working with children. All of our staff are First Aid and CPR certified, and must pass a background check. Our camps operate on a one staff for each 10 campers to improve our ability to properly supervise and engage kids in creative and energetic activities.

Camps fill quickly, so register early. If you need to withdraw, a full refund will only be issued if the notice is given by Wednesday prior to the camp start date.

Withdrawals made less than three days in advance will be assessed a $15 withdrawal fee. Withdrawals made during the week will be prorated.

Structure & Variety We include a variety of activities to keep young minds and bodies active and challenged. Free choice and relaxation time provides a chance to enjoy low-key activities between more in-depth, structured projects and games.

All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced. Field trips to natural areas, recreation sites, and cultural centers are fun learning experiences. We create an environment that is structured and supportive, but also fun and flexible.

Plots are assigned to new gardeners for each summer season in February, March and April, and continue through June as plots are available. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parks for New Portlanders (PNP) is a program initiated by PP&R to provide recreation opportunities for immigrant and refugee communities. With one in five Portlanders being foreign-born, addressing the needs of this new and diverse population is crucial as they transition to Portland’s community.

Senior Recreation is dedicated to ensuring access to recreational, educational, and wellness opportunities for adults age 60+. PP&R offers skateboarding classes, clinics, day camps and private lessons for ages four and up in community centers, SUN Community Schools, and in Portland’s parks. Skate programs get participants up and skateboarding by educating them in skate park etiquette and skateboard anatomy/function, practicing safe stance and bailing out, and finally by boosting confidence and ability in balance, mechanics and control.

CLASS ENROLLMENT Our classes must meet minimum and maximum enrollment standards. Classes may fill quickly or be canceled due to low enrollment.

WITHDRAWAL & REFUNDS Please notify us at least five (5) business days (MondayFriday), unless otherwise specified, before the start of your program so that we can refund or credit your account for the registration fee. Pre-paid materials and admission tickets cannot be refunded. Participants needing to withdraw after the program has begun are offered a prorated credit or refund based upon when the request is made.

SCHOLARSHIPS City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships.
