Citywide Racial Equity Goals and Strategies EQUITY GOAL #1

OVERALL STRATEGIES

We will end racial disparities within city government, so there is fairness in hiring and promotions, greater opportunities in contracting, and equitable services to all residents.

1. Use a racial equity framework: Use a racial equity framework that clearly articulates racial equity; implicit and explicit bias; and individual, institutional, and structural racism.

EQUITY GOAL #2 We will strengthen outreach, public engagement, and access to City services for communities of color and immigrant and refugee communities, and support or change existing services using racial equity best practices.

EQUITY GOAL #3 We will collaborate with communities and institutions to eliminate racial inequity in all areas of government, including education, criminal justice, environmental justice, health, housing, transportation, and economic success.

2. Build organizational capacity: Commit to the breadth and depth of institutional transformation so that impacts are sustainable. While the leadership of electeds and officials is critical, changes take place on the ground, through building infrastructure that creates racial equity experts and teams throughout the city government.

3. Implement a racial equity lens: Racial inequities are not random; they have been created and sustained over time. Inequities will not disappear on their own. It is essential to use a racial equity lens when changing the policies, programs, and practices that perpetuate inequities, and when developing new policies and programs.

4. Be data driven: Measurement must take place at two levels—first, to measure the success of specific programmatic and policy changes; and second, to develop baselines, set goals, and measure progress. Using data in this manner is necessary for accountability.

5. Partner with other institutions and communities: Government work on racial equity is necessary, but insufficient. To achieve racial equity in the community, government needs to work in partnership with communities and institutions to achieve meaningful results.

6. Operate with urgency and accountability: When change is a priority, urgency is felt and change is embraced. Building in institutional accountability mechanisms using a clear plan of action will allow accountability. Collectively, we must create greater urgency and public commitment to achieve racial equity.

Which Pass or Fee option is best for you?

In an effort to provide YOU with the BEST health & fitness options for your individual goals, we provide a wide variety of options. The following is an overview of those options, however, please do not hesitate to contact us for more detailed information.

Active Pass

The Active Pass provides ongoing access to all drop in pool activities, the hot tub, the fitness center and all Group Exercise classes. For your convenience, Active Passes will auto-renew each month. Simply pay your first monthly fee upon registering with a debit or credit card and all future monthly payments are deducted directly from that same debit or credit card.

The Active pass is the best option for someone who wants the flexibility to drop-in to a wide variety of classes, as well as being able to use the pool and fitness center at their convenience. This is also the most cost efficient option for individuals who plan to regularly work out 3 or more times per week.

Active Passes are not eligible to receive scholarships.

For the customer who is just looking to do a few laps in the pool or work out with a friend who has a pass the dropin fee allows you one-time access to the pool or fitness center for the day.

This fee also inlcudes ONE Group Exercise class.

(If re-entry on the same date is desired, a receipt must be requested at the time of original transaction)

We’ve added value to your visit pass! Visit passes now include Group Exercise classes! They are a great option for those who plan to work out at Dishman only once or twice a week. In addition, visit passes are a great option for organizations who would like to bring a larger group of visitors (please call ahead). The cards provide unlimited day-use of the facility at a discounted rate.

AQUAEROBICS This shallow water fitness class focuses on cardiovascular fitness with special attention to strength & flexibility. All fitness & swimming levels are welcome!

PREGNANCY FITNESS Energize your pregnancy! Shallow water class focuses on ­pregnancy ­fitness with special attention to improved circulation & flexibility.

AQUA POWER This deep water fitness class uses buoyant & resistant equipment to provide an excellent cardiovascular workout with zero impact! Aqua Power is designed for all levels.

Participants should be comfortable in deep water.

FAMILY SWIM Recreational swim for parents & children. Enjoy the shallow water, play mats, innertubes, water basketball & more.

All children 17 yrs & under must be accompanied by an adult swimmer.

S.M.I.L.E. (Slower Movement Intensity Lowered Exercise) This shallow water fitness class focuses on improving circulation, strength, range of motion & flexibility through low impact exercise.

AQUAEROBICS/AQUA POWER LANE Dedicated space for individuals to workout on their own, ­without the aid of an instructor, using aquaerobics or aqua power techniques.

OPEN PLAY SWIM “L” shaped pool with one-meter diving board, short slide and basketball hoop (availability of amenities may vary).

Non-swimmers & children under 48” tall must not be left unattended on the pool deck and must be accompanied at all times in the water by a person 18 years or older who shall remain responsible for them and their safety. Life jackets are a­ vailable for non-swimmers.

The Blue Makos . . .

Dive into action with the Blue Makos! Are you into speed, competition, and perfecting your technique? Strut your stuff in this pre-competitive league, racing against other pools in Portland at quarterly mock-swim meets. Receive one hour per week of expert coaching in a fun, supportive environment. Participants will be given instruction on butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, including competitive dives and turns. It is a great place to begin your journey to competitive swimming.

Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool: Front Crawlstroke and Backstroke.

(This correlates to passing Sea Lion level in the Portland Parks and Recreation swim lesson program.)

A pre-competitive swim league participants ages 6-16 will enjoy: • 1 hour weekly swim practices at all pools • Expert tips from an experienced swim coach • A fun, supportive, learning environment • Instruction on each of the four competitive strokes including dives and turns • A mock swim meet on Sunday, December 11 from 8:00-10:30am at Matt Dishman Pool • Every swimmer will receive a Blue Makos swim cap!

Dribble, shoot, and sink the shot! Build confidence & self-esteem in this non-competitive, entry level league held in a safe environment.

Focuses on teamwork, passing, dribbling, and shooting in these entry level games.

Parent volunteers needed, please contact the community center to ďŹ nd out more. An information meeting will be held during the beginning of the ďŹ rst practice.

T-shirt included. Maximum of 10 players per team. Later registrations accepted through the third practice. Games are held Fridays starting 10/28 at CJCC. Game schedule provided at second practice. Cost is $56.

over 15 years. He studied music theory & composition at Portland Community College & performs a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from metal, jazz, acoustic finger-style blues & bluegrass. Teaches Thursday.

Sam Cooper’s expertise is in the folk/rock/pop realm.

He has toured internationally as a multi-instrumentalist in other people’s bands, and has toured nationally with his own music. Proficient to expert at guitars, vocals, keyboards, banjo, electric bass, mandolin, violin, and drums. One aspect of his philosophy as a private music teacher is to let the students participate in programming their own curriculum. He finds lessons are much more fun and much more productive when the student has an active role in determining what instruments, styles, and skills they work on. Teaches Mondays and Wednesdays.

With 50 community gardens located throughout the city, the Community Gardens program provides gardening opportunities, plus lifestyle benefits, residents in Portland. Plots are assigned to new gardeners for each summer season in February, March and April, and continue through June as plots are available. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parks for New Portlanders (PNP) is a program initiated by PP&R to provide recreation opportunities for immigrant and refugee communities. PNP works with partners and city leaders to design culturally relevant programs, making sure services are welcoming to communities of color, new immigrants and refugees. With one in five Portlanders being foreign-born, addressing the needs of this new and diverse population is crucial as they transition to Portland’s community.

Senior Recreation is dedicated to ensuring access to recreational, educational, and wellness opportunities for adults age 60+. These wellattended programs are offered throughout Portland and include excursions and van trips, health and wellness, gardening, fitness, computers, biking, book club, Brainpower Boost, arts and crafts, language, floral design, golf, cooking, dance, music, drawing, Hike for Health, Metro Movers, and more!

Portland Public Golf offers affordable, quality golf to Portland’s residents and visitors alike.

These six beautiful, and nationally recognized, golf courses offer 9- and 18-hole rounds, practice ranges, lessons for youth and adult, and spectacular options for tournament play. PP&R offers skateboarding classes, clinics, day camps and private lessons for ages four and up in community centers, SUN Community Schools, and in Portland’s parks. Skate programs get participants up and skateboarding by educating them in skate park etiquette and skateboard anatomy/function, practicing safe stance and bailing out, and finally by boosting confidence and ability in balance, mechanics and control.

Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident surcharge.

Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a 40% surcharge (rounded to the next highest quarter (.25)). NR surcharges do not apply to drop-in activities. Non-residents who wish to register for PP&R activities may choose one of these options: • Pay the additional 40% NR fee.

• Purchase a NR fee discount pass as either an individual or family for a period of three, six or nine months from the date of purchase. The NR discount pass takes 25% off the NR fee for the activity. Inquire about this option at time of registration. These passes are not refundable.

CLASS ENROLLMENT Our classes must meet minimum and maximum enrollment standards. Classes may fill quickly or be canceled due to low enrollment.

WITHDRAWAL & REFUNDS Please notify us at least seven (7) days, unless otherwise specified, before the start of your program so that we can refund or credit your account for the registration fee. Prepaid materials and admission tickets cannot be refunded.

Participants needing to withdraw after the program has begun are offered a prorated credit or refund based upon when the request is made.

SCHOLARSHIPS City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships.

INCLEMENT WEATHER If the City of Portland public school districts (Portland Public, Parkrose, David Douglas, Reynolds, and Centennial) are closed because of weather conditions, PP&R classes and youth basketball in those school districts are cancelled.
