Ages: 16 & Up Anyone can benefit from the skills actors use to help build confidence and strengthen communication skills in everyday life. Through theatre games and short scene work, reveal the natural actor inside you, and strengthen skills you can use at work and school, from giving presentations to working with clients. Stimulate the imagination, spark creativity, learn to have fun and relax while thinking on your feet and navigating new situations; this class will energize, challenge, inspire and surprise you! For those who would like to participate, there will be a presentation on the last day of class. Ages: 16 & Up Poetry as a means of expression, exploration, and experience is available to everyone. Write poetry in response to prompts and read a variety of published poems that you can use as inspiration. Read and respond to one another's work in this supportive setting, paying close attention to revision. Reading & Writing About the Earth

Ages: 18 & Up In this class we'll have a little Geology 101 (i.e., look at cool rocks!) to deepen our sense of place. We'll also consider Earth with a capital E: the whole planet. On three field trips (sites to be determined) we'll go outdoors to understand Portland's geology and ground our writing in vivid details and facts. All genres. Reading & Writing About the Willamette

Ages: 18 & Up How much do you know about your river? In this class we will write outdoors beside the Willamette and learn about its hydrology, history, and what it means to Portlanders. All genres—poetrty, fiction, memoir—welcome! Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer, this is an opportunity to learn about the Willamette and understand its importance in your life. The Art of Storytelling for Teens | NEW!

Ages: 13-18 Write and perform your own story. Using a variety of creative prompts, improv games, and elements of story, students will develop a Moth-style personal tale to share with friends and family – from small gatherings to the stage. Each week there will be an opportunity to share something we’ve written. Learn to put aside the inner critic and engage your creative process in a safe and fun environment.
