Here’s an alternative in our mat room. No need to worry as little ones explore our soft & safe environment. Playful & challenging activities gently encourage your child to develop strength, coordination, & body awareness.

INDOOR PARK Indoor Park is a safe & cooperative playtime for children accompanied by parents. Encourages the development of motor skills while helping children gain experience with group interaction & cooperative play on equipment, cars & assorted toys. Parents are responsible for supervising their children.

BASKETBALL – OPEN GYM Come by the Center after school and get in a couple games of pick up basketball. School ID required and must fill out a Youth Registration Card to participate.

Polly McCourt has an interesting and varied background working with children and families. For the last 9 years she has taught Preschool – 2nd grade at Trillium Charter School in north Portland. She is the mother of six children varying in age from 13 to 25 and has lived in Portland for the past 20 years, hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Polly has been deeply involved in education and schools in Portland. She says “I believe strongly in school choice and finding a school that fits your individual child. I enjoy small children tremendously. I believe in the power of play, art, story and experience. I strongly believe in exposure to books. Books and stories are a fundamental building block of literacy for children.”

Bridge Buddies Classes:

Patty McCord has been teaching for more than 30 years with experiences ranging from rural Vale, OR to the Portland metro area. She is a state licensed and certified teacher and has taught preschool in SUN Community School programs as well as substituting full time. Patty says, “My flexibility helps me to facilitate life long learners by using cooperative learning situations incorporated in thematic units across curriculum. I enjoy teaching academics and physical education to all levels of students. Patty is also enjoys reading, making greeting cards, scrapbooking, gardening, belly dance and yoga.

Intergenerational Martial Arts

Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that music lessons improve listening skills, concentration and memory.

Music students also have been shown to do better on standardized tests and achieve higher grades in school.

In addition, children who take music lessons learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions. Give your child or yourself the gift that lasts a lifetime!

Tae Kwon Do - For Everybody age: 7 & up Join over 40 million people who practice this Korean martial art. Increase agility & strength while improving coordination using kicks, punches & blocks. Parents, children & families are welcome. Please note, St. Johns Community Center is offering a monthly payment option for those who are interested in breaking the tuition into 3 equal payments of $33. Family songs, dances, stories & NW coast magnificent masks come to life in the glimmering firelight of the Kwakwaka’wakw (Kwakiutl) ceremonial house. The Lelooska Museum located in Ariel, WA, houses an immense collection of artifacts from many regions, a replica fur trade store & a gift shop. Fee includes admission; bring money for lunch overlooking the Lewis River. This trip is not accessible to those using a wheelchair, walker or motorized scooter. Resident / non-Residents / definitions:

A resident is: • anyone who occupies a permanent residence inside the city limits of Portland, which includes the Portland Public, Parkrose, and David Douglas School Districts.

• any child living within the school boundaries of the Reynolds and Centennial School Districts who is attending a SUN Community School. Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident fee.

Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a NR fee. NR fees do not apply to drop-in activities.

Non-residents who wish to register for PP&R activities may choose one of these options: • pay the additional 30% non-resident fee.

• purchase resident status as either an individual or family for a period of three, six, nine, or twelve months from the date of purchase. Inquire about this option at time of registration.

Non-resident passes are not refundable. Passes are activated at the date of purchase.

Non-resident Pass prices: 3 Month Pass: Individual - $25 Family - $50 6 Month Pass: Individual - $45 Family - $90 9 Month Pass: Individual - $65 Family - $130 One Year Pass: Individual - $85 Family - $170 A family denotes a couple (married or domestic) or a single parent and their legal dependants living in the same residence.

Note: As part of the FY 2013-14 budget PP&R will be updating its non-resident fee policy to better ensure that non-residents are paying fees equivalent to what City of Portland residents are paying through fees and taxes. The specific changes are not known at the time of this printing.

Any changes to non-resident fees are expected to become st August , 2013. effective for customers that register after June 30,312013.

WithdRaWal & Refunds: Please notify us at least three business (Monday-Friday) days, unless otherwise specified, before the start of your program so that we can refund or credit your account for the registration fee. Prepaid materials & admission tickets cannot be refunded.

Participants needing to withdraw after the program has begun are offered a prorated credit or refund based upon when the request is made.

scholaRships: City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships. Contact individual centers for information.

inclement WeatheR: If the City of Portland public school districts (Portland Public, Parkrose, David Douglas, Reynolds, and Centennial) are closed because of weather conditions, PP&R classes and youth basketball in those school districts are cancelled. However, some sites may be open for drop-in activities. Call the specific PP&R facility for information and opening/closing times. If inclement weather is forecast on weekends or holidays, call the PP&R facility or program for operating hours and activity cancellations.

Phone. Call our Customer Service Center at 503-823-2525, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. Visa or Mastercard are accepted by phone. You are welcome to call any of our community centers to register over the phone as well.

Mail. Mail in your completed registration form (at right) to: Parks Customer Service Center, 1120 SW Fifth Ave, Suite 1302, Portland, OR, 97204.

Include full payment using your Visa, Mastercard or check payable to the City of Portland.
