Our Village Investigator is actively patrolling our residential and commercial districts to identify vacant lots and buildings in need of property maintenance, advising absentee owners of their obligations under the Village Code to keep their properties clean and in good repair. This practice benefits all neighbors and owners by preventing garbage accumulation, overgrowth, invasion by wild animals and insects, squa ers, and thereby maintaining everyone’s property values. If you see a property in need of some TLC, give us a call at 631-473-4744, and we will make sure it is addressed. All calls will be kept anonymous.

Our next traffic survey will be on Scraggy Hill Rd. This survey will also be for a two-week period.
Bike patrols and foot patrols have commenced in the downtown area with positive feedback from both the public and our officers.
Recent village events, Port Paws and Port Palooza, were successful, with no major incidents to report.
I a ended the recent Chamber of Commerce meeting. It was very fruitful, with ideas and concerns shared among those in a endance.

FERRY:
PARKING HAS NEVER
We are in the heart of the summer, and the parking scene in Port Jeff is alive as ever. In addition to our residents parking in our lots, we see visitors parking at a rate of well over 1,000 cars daily. The addition of the spaces at the CVS lot for public use has helped immensely with businesses and events taking place in the south part of the C1 district.
The parking department manages our micro-mobility service,"PASSPort." I presented information on the program at the 8-7-23 board of trustees meetingciting excellent service results but lower than anticipated usage. The program will be re-considered for continuance a er August 2023.
Approximately 80.5% of our paid-parking session transactions are paid by QR code. One advantage is that the PAY BY CELL option remembers your plate number for the next time you park and reminds you of your parking session expiring. The Barnum parking lot continues to be a free alternative and is heavily utilized by C1 district employees. Parking questions and comments are welcome at portjeff.com/parking
We are thrilled to see an incredible amount of golf being played this season. Our course is averaging over 5,000 rounds of golf per month and shows no sign of slowing down. In addition, we are also offering beginner and intermediate clinics to cater to all skill levels.
Membership numbers are at their highest in the past few years, with members from other private clubs expressing interest in joining our exceptional facilities. We have received multiple positive comments from our members who are thoroughly satisfied with the course conditions and our fantastic food and beverage vendor, TPG.
Rest assured that we are dedicated to bringing back our Racquets Facility, and we hope to share exciting news with you very soon. The facility will feature both Har-Tru tennis courts and paddle ball courts, ensuring a wide range of activities for our valued members. Stay tuned for future updates.

As the heart of summer beats on, our Parks Department has been hard at work ensuring our community spaces remain the vibrant and welcoming havens we all adore. Here's a peek into what's happening!
Our team got the festivities rolling by preparing the parade route-including mowing, weeding, and sprucing up the village hall. The setup and dismantling of the Show-Mobile sound system for the parade and the swearing-in ceremony went off without a hitch at Village Hall's steps.
As always, regular maintenance like garbage pick-up, and watering our beautiful baskets and planters throughout town, keeps our parks pristine.
At the Joe Erland so ball field, meticulous care goes into mowing, prepping the infield, chalking and painting lines.
Rocket Ship Park and public restrooms are cleaned and inspected daily. All playground equipment undergoes a thorough check for safety.
Regular garbage pick-up, mowing, weeding, and graffiti removal keep these parks inviting and clean. Routine maintenance checks at Texaco Park are performed 2-3 days a week.
East and West Beaches received some TLC with garbage pickup, mowing, and weeding. Notably, both beaches now sport handicap mats for improved accessibility. As we wave goodbye to summer in September, beach closure procedures involve safe removal of lifeguard stands and beach ropes.
Our beaches are more exciting than ever with the addition of a volleyball net for residents to enjoy. To top it off, the kayak rack capacity at the beach has been extended and can now hold 54 kayaks!
They remain open until 1st November 2023 and have seen a refreshing update with a new coat of paint and privacy extensions installed in the stalls.
As we venture together into the beauty of summer, we look forward to serving you in maintaining our gorgeous community spaces! Thanks!
To start construction of new offices near Village hall
The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry has successfully navigated the Village Planning Department process and is ready to start building their new office facility just opposite the Village Hall on West Barnum. Fred Hall, the Vice President and General Manager of the ferry company, confirms that the project is set to kick off the week of August 14th, with an expected construction timeline of 12 to 18 months. This expansion underlines the company's ongoing growth and unwavering dedication to the local community.
In 2022, the Village Planning Board required that Mather Hospital install sidewalks, make roadway improvements (ie turning lanes) and add a traffic light at its North Country Road entrance to improve the traffic flow. This was required by the Village in order for Mather to receive approval of our new Emergency Department building plan. Construction on the light started in June 2023. We are awaiting the arrival of a controller that will work in conjunction with the light at North Country Road and Belle Terre Road. Once we have this equipment and it is installed, there will be a period where the light will blink for several days. A er which the light will be put into full operation. The earliest this will happen is mid-August. We will keep the Village informed of our progress.
The 2023 Port Paws Dog Festival event took place from July 14th through 16th, and both Friday and Saturday were exceptional days. Unfortunately, Sunday's events were canceled due to the dangerous rainfall. In prioritizing the safety of everyone involved, the Village made the tough call to halt the event.
More than 70 canines took part in Friday evening's 'TRY IT' segment. Saturday's event drew a crowd of over 800 a endees and had nearly 30 exhibitors, including SCPD and Suffolk County Sheriff canine units.
We are thankful to our presenting sponsor, King O'Rourke, as well as our volunteers, parks, DPW, and code departments.
The event once again will benefit to the Port Jefferson Harbor Education and Arts Conservancy 501 (c)3.
A Hot day in so many ways!
The live mini music festival took place July 29th, noon to dusk - on two stages with a total of 10 LIVE musical acts ranging from middle schoolers playing live for the first time - to Port Jeff's own Cole Fortier Band - to a new addition to the lineup South Bay Soul (Pictured). The day was filled with relaxation and musical bliss accented with Kilwin's ice cream in the park!
The new stage added this year at the Eagle statue (25a and main) featured four talented musical acts, including "Allie Sandt" (Pictured), which received rave reviews. The band features a Port Jeff resident on bass, and many members are music industry majors at the State University of Oneonta.
The weather held out perfectly until around 7:53 pm when the Keenan Zach Sunset Jazz Trio was cut slightly short by the event chair, Kevin Wood, who helped safely get everyone out of the area.
We thank all the sponsors listed at www.portpalooza.com as well as the support of the Port Jefferson Harbor Education and Arts Conservancy.
Great turn out this past Saturday!
The Village of Port Jefferson under the direction of Deputy Mayor , Rebecca Kassay held a very successful E-Waste event on Saturday August 5th. The event allows residents and businesses to dispose of any electronic waste. The waste was brought to the Perry Parking lot where E-Green Recycling representatives would empty the vehicle of items. The team made it very convenient as the driver never had to leave their car.
All told the team collected from some 30 cars and collected 2,300 plus pounds of unwanted electronic waste.
These events o en have the following goals:
1. Environmental Protection: By collecting and recycling e-waste, the events help prevent harmful substances from contaminating soil and water, and reduce the overall impact on the environment.
2. Resource Recovery: Valuable materials like metals, plastics, and glass can be recovered from e-waste through recycling, reducing the need for new raw materials and conserving natural resources.
3. Public Awareness: E-waste events raise awareness about the importance of responsible electronic waste disposal and educate the community about the potential hazards associated with improper disposal.
4. Compliance: Many jurisdictions have regulations in place to ensure proper e-waste disposal. E-waste events help individuals and businesses comply with these regulations.
5. Community Engagement: These events provide an opportunity for community members to actively participate in sustainable practices and support local environmental initiatives. The village intends on scheduling more of these events.
The Port Jefferson BID helps to brand their districts and market small businesses on their corridor. They facilitate networking among merchants, host community events, and advocate for improvements to the district. The BID also serves as a liaison between local businesses and stakeholders and the Village of Port Jefferson.
