You want to sort your waste properly but are finding all the rules confusing, and perhaps even a little frustrating. You’re not alone. Recent audits of Port Coquitlam waste carts show that although most residents sort their waste properly, many are still putting the wrong things into their carts. Ongoing contamination will lead to steep fines and fee hikes that will be passed on to taxpayers. It also means we send more to the landfill.

Did you know? Plastic bags never go in your green or blue cart. Take them to a depot instead (find locations at www.portcoquitlam.ca/recycling).

Keeping Port Coquitlam clean

The last thing you want to see at your local park is a big pile of garbage. But more and more, household garbage and re-usable items are being illegally dumped in parks, along trails and other areas. A $500 fine may be issued for illegal dumping. Residents are encouraged to report dumping to 604.927.5496 or operations@portcoquitlam.ca. Residents are also advised to donate or sell re-usable items rather than place them at the curb, which is unsightly and not permitted by City bylaw. Go to www.portcoquitlam.ca/recyclingdirectory to find out where to take unwanted items and to search for charities.

Illegal dumping is on the rise.

Lawn Sprinkling Allowed One Morning a Week

Metro Vancouver has moved the region back to Stage 2 water restrictions as water reservoir levels have increased due to recent heavy rains. Lawn sprinkling is now allowed one morning a week only. Even-numbered addresses may water their lawn between 4-9 am on Monday, and oddnumbered addresses may water between 4-9 am on Thursday. Hosing of driveways, sidewalks, and parkades using a auas well as pressure washing are only allowed for health and safety purposes. For more details, visit www.portcoquitlam.ca/sprinkling.
