THIS ADU OFFERS FLEXIBLE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING WITH A COMPACT, ENERGY-EFFICIENT DESIGN. ITS NEAR-SQUARE FORM AND RECESSED NICHES ADD SPATIAL VARIETY AND REDUCE HEAT LOSS. FIRE-RESISTANT ROCKWOOL INSULATION AND SLATE ROOFING ENSURE LOW MAINTENANCE. SOUTH-FACING WINDOWS AND ANGLED SKYLIGHTS BOOST WINTER SOLAR GAIN AND DAYLIGHT, WHILE ROOF OVERHANGS LIMIT SUMMER HEAT. PLANNED UPGRADES INCLUDE THERMAL FLOORING AND OPTIMIZED SKYLIGHTS FOR ADDED COMFORT.

A DYNAMIC SPACE MERGING PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND PRIVATE CREATIVITY, THE BUILDING INCLUDES A GROUND FLOOR GALLERY, CAFÉ, SHARED WORKSPACES, AND LIVE/WORK UNITS THAT PRIORITIZE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION THROUGH FUNCTIONAL DESIGN AND BOLD ARCHITECTURAL FORMS.

BRYANT PARK, NEW YORK CITY TREATING PYRAMIDS AS OUR UNIT, WE PUSH AND PULL THEIR MEASUREMENTS TO ACCOMMODATE FOR DIFFERENT SCALES, HUMAN AND ANIMAL, AND TO FULFILL 3 DIFFERENT PROGRAMS IN THE SPACE: WORK, LOUNGE, AND EXHIBIT. WITH THE NET MESH INSIDE AND THE ROCKY ROOF, WE AIM TO FACILIATE AN ACT OF NESTING IN THIS SPACE.
DESIGNED TO REFLECT THE ORGANIC NEEDS OF BOTH HUMANS AND ANIMALS, THIS PROJECT USES TRIANGULAR, CANOPY-LIKE STRUCTURES, NATURE’S MOST STABLE AND ADAPTABLE FORM, TO CREATE A HARMONIOUS SPACE WHERE ARCHITECTURE MOLDS TO MOVEMENT, COMFORT, AND THE NATURAL RHYTHMS OF LIFE.
AN ENCLOSED BOX EXPERIMENTING WITH PASSIVE DESIGN STARTEGIES INSPIRED BY GREENHOUSE STRUCTURES. DEMONSTRATING CONCEPTUAL, PRACTICAL, AND EXPERIMENTAL KNOWLEDGE OF HOW BUILDING PHYSICS WORKS. OVER A SPAN OF A WEEK, WE OBSERVED THE THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE BOX’S INTERIOR TO SEE WHAT CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE TO THE COMFORT ZONE.
COMFORT IS ACHIEVED WITHIN A SPACE. TEMPERATURE DATA LOGGER RECORDER WITH EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE SENSOR WAS USED TO MEASURE THE RESULT.

ISAMU NOGUCHI:THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM
ASTORIA, QUEENS 2022
THE REDESIGNED EXTERIOR WALLS OF THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM “PEEL BACK” TO BLUR THE LINE BETWEEN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACES. THESE OPENINGS INVITE VISUAL ENGAGEMENT, FRAME VIEWS, AND ENHANCE LIGHT, TRANSFORMING THE WALL INTO A DYNAMIC THRESHOLD THAT CONNECTS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR.
HARLEM, 125TH STREET METRO NORTH STATION
APART OF THE PLACE, MEMORY AND CULTURE INCUBATOR AT SSA, THIS EXPANSIVE PEDAGOGY IS TO INNOVATE HOW WE CENTER CULTURE, COMMUNITY, AND LIVING HISTORY NOT ONLY IN HOW WE PRESERVE, BUT ALSO HOW WE DESIGN AND IMAGINE CULTURALLY RESILIENT SPATIAL FUTURES FOR THE CITY OF HARLEM.
THE DRAWING EXPOSES REDLINING IN HARLEM, WHICH REVEALS HOW ENFORCED SEGREGATION SHAPED URBAN FORM AND EMBEDDED RACIAL INEQUITY INTO THE CITY.
DISPLAYED ON ACRYLIC SHEETS, THE DESIGN ACTIVATES PUBLIC INTERACTION, POSITIONING RESIDENTS AS DIRECT CRITICS AND CONTRIBUTORS. COMMUNITY INPUT DRIVES THE USE OF SOUND ABSORBING MATERIALS AND SPATIAL STRATEGIES THAT ASSERT CULTURAL RESILIENCE AND SENSORY INTENTION.

A FILM THAT MODERNIZES THE TALE OF “LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD” AND EXLORES
A RELIGIOUS ASPECT OF THE MAIN CHARACTER’S LIFE. THROUGH SYMBOLISM AND FORESHADOWING, THE AUDIENCE QUESTIONS THE ACTIONS OF A CERTAIN CHARACTER, CREATING TENSION THROUGHOUT THE FILM.

INSPIRED BY THE EXPRESSIONIST HORROR OF “THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI” PRESENTED THROUGH EVOCATIVE TITLE CARDS AND STYLIZED VISUALS, THE FILM RESURRECTS EARLY CINEMA TECHNIQUES— DISTORTED CAMERA ANGLES, DRAMATIC SHADOWS, AND EXAGGERATED PERFORMANCES—TO CRAFT A SURREAL, NIGHTMARISH ATMOSPHERE.
WE USE CLOSE-UPS AND SLOW PANNING TO ECHO EARLY HORROR FILMS. CLOSE-UPS HIGHLIGHT EXAGGERATED EMOTIONS, HEIGHTENING TENSION WITHOUT DIALOGUE. PANNING BUILDS DREAD BY REVEALING SETS SLOWLY, WHILE ABRUPT FRAME JUMPS UNSETTLE THE VIEWER—MIMICKING THE DISJOINTED, DREAMLIKE STYLE OF SILENT-ERA HORROR LIKE “THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI.”
THE APPLE IS USED AS A SYMBOL OF ORIGINAL SIN, REPRESENTING TEMPTATION AND THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE. ITS RECURRING PRESENCE MARKS RED’S DOOMED FATE, LINKING HER JOURNEY TO GUILT, PUNISHMENT, AND INEVITABLE DOWNFALL.
