Symphonii Smith-Kennedy is a 22-yearold artist who is originally from South Florida. While pursuing her education at New World School of the Arts and obtaining an art studio with Zero Empty Spaces, these environments provide her serious artistic exploration in painting and her identity. Utilizing art
to learn what it means to be a Black queer woman in the current climate of the world while using her experience, imagination, and admiration for the unreal to influence her work. Essentially creating sequential narratives through oil painting and other mediums that derive from Afro-centric or black culture and fantasy. While painting is her main practice, Symphonii’s aspirations bridge between fine art, illustration, and entrepreneurship.
Lauren Georgia is a digital artist and educator who creates immersive installations that blend reflective surfaces, light, and shadows into unique experiences. The environments she creates focus on transformation and provide participants with opportunities to confront their own reflections and perceptions of identity and self. Lauren balances these deeper questions with a
playful approach, blending bright colors and patterns into her work.
Raised locally in Pompano Beach, Lauren graduated from University of Florida with BFAs in Art Education and Digital Media. She has exhibited in group and solo shows in Florida. She has been teaching for eight years, four of which were focused on digital art and design portfolio development at local Dillard High School. Since the Public Art Committee’s inception in 2012, the city has acquired sculptures, murals, wrapped traffic boxes, and even created an underwater sculpture garden. Over the past nine years, the City’s Public Art Program has worked with Sonata Kazimieraitiene on five mosaic themed projects creating 266 artworks for the City. Kazimieraitiene’s most recent project, Patterns of Pompano, consists of 27 murals and 100 glass tile mosaics each measuring 1 square foot, at this important gateway location on Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. under the I-95 overpass.
The choice of color combinations inspired by ethnic patterns adds cultural richness to the piece and provides a connection to different communities and backgrounds, making the artwork inclusive and relatable to a wide audience. Additionally, the reference to traditional quilt patterns is a nod to the cultural and personal histories that often go into creating quilts, making the piece personal and meaningful to those who view it.
For more information on the City’s Public Art Program, and to be involved in upcoming art projects, please contact Laura Atria 954.545.7800, #3813, or go to the City’s Public Art website at www.pbpublic.com and sign up for our Artist Network.
