Fibre to the home your guide to

ALIVFibr is currently building out the most modern communications network in the country; and while our team is working hard building out our infrastructure, we would like to take this opportunity to prepare our customers for what this will mean for them.
Our all new Fibre network will offer up to 20x capacity over our existing legacy network with some of the fastest broadband speeds ever available!
In short, this means directly improved services across the board. Faster internet with more capacity, better TV services with a full suite of new features and crystal-clear telephone lines. But by extension this improved network connectivity will improve whatever network dependent services you use. From smart home features to property security to better work from home experiences, you can expect improved performances after the upgrade.
We invite you to take a look at the included information in this packet and take a moment to familiarize yourself with what will be happening during this installation and transition. We have also included a brief write up of what to expect with your new service.
Thank you for allowing us to be your provider of choice, and if you should have any questions please feel free to reach out to our support teams.
ALIVFibr will be building out a brand-new communications network, and to take advantage of our next generation services, we will have to run new connections to your home. All areas of install that are on your property that require any modifications to your existing construction will need to be approved by you or your agent before work is conducted.
The appointment will be scheduled ahead of time, because you or another adult capable of making technical decisions will need to be home to let the installer in. During this appointment, we will bring fiber inside your home, install, and set up your equipment, and get your Wi-Fi up and running. Then you will be ready to enjoy your next generation internet, TV and voice services.
• If you currently utilize a 3rd party for your in-home communication management, we would strongly suggest that they also be present during the install.
• Think about where you might like the equipment installed but stay open to suggestions from the technician.
• Clear your personal items out of the areas where you think the technician might be working (as much as it makes sense).
• If you use a competitor’s service, it is your choice whether you schedule disconnection of your previous Internet service (and TV service, if applicable) prior to your ALIVFibr installation date or wait until your installation is complete. While there is no direct conflict between AlivFibr and other Internet/TV services, there can be physical space issues in conduits and interference with the Wi-Fi networks which can impact service performance.
Because most neighborhoods have not had fiber to the home (FTTH) internet before, the process to wire a house for service can take between three to four hours.
Before beginning the installation process, the technician will meet with you to discuss where you want to place the internet equipment inside your home. This should be based on the most frequently used rooms for entertainment, work, and leisure. Once a location has been determined, the installer will run a fiber optic line from the pole or pedestal to the outside of the property.
At this point the 5mm cable will be terminated in a transition box and smaller cable will be run inside. In some cases, to bring fiber into your home, our installers may have to drill a small hole through an exterior wall. The interior cable will then be run to the location selected for the ONT (Optical Network Terminal).
While our traditional service offering of cable internet uses a modem, fiber internet uses an ONT which translates the data into a signal that is readable by ethernet cables, and your wireless devices.
Once the ONT is installed and powered, we will then begin connecting the other AlivFibr devices namely, set top Boxes for Television and Wi-Fi Mesh Units to optimize wireless coverage. Note, all our devices will be cabled via CAT5e Ethernet cable back to the ONT.
In some cases, it may be necessary to remove existing coaxial cable from conduit to make space to run the ethernet cable. This will interrupt any services provided by the coaxial cable.
Upon completion of the physical installation, the technician will set your Wi-Fi name to the same parameters that existed on the legacy service. They will then certify the home, checking both wired and wireless speeds throughout the home. Once certification passes, the technician will then begin a short introductory session to the service as well as onboard one of your devices to our in-home WiFi management solution.
When certification is completed, the technician will reclaim all legacy equipment (e.g., cable modem, set-top boxes), clean up the work areas and physically disconnect the cable service on the outside from the cable plant.
Fibre to the Home is a new technology to many providers, but not to us. Our first deployment was over 15 years ago. We now have FTTH service in communities in Abaco, Eleuthera and New Providence.
Simply put, absolutely! The main reason for this difference lies with the fact that traditional cable connections use copper wires. These wires can pick up interference from other signals, ultimately weakening the data signal resulting in slower speeds and even service disruptions.
It really depends on the type of equipment that you currently have. Computers and laptops will need to have an ethernet port or Wi-Fi capabilities. TV’s should have a HDMI connection in order to receive the best possible signals.
The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is a communication device that replaces the modem in your home.
WILL THE ONT DEVICE STILL OPERATE DURING A POWER OUTAGE?
Yes. Electricity is a required component, however the ONT device has a battery backup of up to eight hours based on usage and shelf life.
WHAT WILL THIS UPGRADE COST?
This upgrade will result in a nominal increase to your monthly fees of about $10 or less.
WILL ALIVFIBR TECHNICIANS NEED TO ENTER MY HOME?
Yes. ALIVFibr technicians and/or authorized contractors will need to enter your home to install new wiring.
