Legislation speeds vets’ access to jobs

OLYMPIA – Legislation to eliminate unnecessary training for experienced military veterans seeking similar civilian employment passed the Senate today on a 46-0 vote. Sponsored in the House by Rep. Christine Rolfes (D-North Kitsap) and in the Senate by Sen. Derek Kilmer (D-Gig Harbor) the legislation would evaluate the skills veterans already possess and apply it to educational and licensing requirements in a wide variety of professional fields. “Redundant training is a waste of resources,” said, Rolfes, D-Bainbridge Island. “The

SEATTLE – Submariner Ian Jarvis called the match score between the Seattle Sounders and the Chicago Fire perfectly Saturday – first win of the season 2-1. The only thing that could have made
the day better had already happened. The six-year veteran of the USS Sea Wolf (SSN 575), reenlisted with his wife at his side as Sounders goalie and team captain Kasey Keller practiced shagging highvelocity soccer balls 10 feet away and rowdy fans prepped for the day’s match. “It’s an awesome experience,” said
Jarvis of his on-the-field reenlistment. “I can’t think of a better place.” Jarvis is a life long soccer player and a big-time fan of the Sounders. Playing since age 7, Jarvis still hits the indoor soccer pitch with a team from the Sea Wolf. The Sounders have become a big part of Seattle life and today is one to remember, he said. Following a college education, Jarvis joined the Navy shortly after the 9-11 ter-
