CrabFest is the annual celebration of the Olympic Peninsula’s diverse bounty — the seafood, agriculture and aquaculture, maritime history, cultural traditions and the breathtaking coastal environment. Just a few miles from Dungeness Bay, this is the home of the Dungeness crab where we celebrate the region’s famed crustacean and Olympic Peninsula cuisine. Enjoy the abundance of the Olympic Peninsula, its communities and all that the Festival has to offer.

Each year during the three-day CrabFest you will find people wearing some very crabby headgear. Stop by the festival’s Crazy Crab Hats booth, which is located in the row of crafts booths on First Federal City Pier, for a selection, including foam hats, crab visors, velvet berets, baseball crab hats with pincers and legs coming off the sides, and the most popular — the bendable crab legs and eyes. A few more details about attending CrabFest ACCESSIBLE PARKING

Parking lots in Port Angeles have numerous accessible spaces, including the nearby parking lot underneath the Gateway Transit Center Pavilion near Lincoln and Front streets, where the Cooking Demonstrations take place. Since there are limited spaces there, we have an “Accessible Drop-Off” location on Railroad Avenue (in front of H20 Waterfront Bistro and Dairy Queen). You may drop people off and then find a parking space.

TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS

Clallam Transit runs every day except Sunday. Take a bus to the Festival, visit www.clallamtransit. com/Routes-Schedules for more information. We have a designated Taxi Stand at the Gateway Center Pavilion on Front Street next to the clock tower.

DO YOU ACCEPT CANADIAN CURRENCY?

Unfortunately, we do not accept Canadian currency due to the exchange rate.

CAN I BRING MY DOG TO CRABFEST?

Yes, but not in the Crab Central Tent, as that is considered a restaurant (with the exception of service animals). There are additional outdoor food vendors, plus all of the other activities where your dog is welcome on a leash. Please scoop!

STREET PERFORMERS/BUSKERS

The Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival appreciates street performers. Due to the limited size of the site and the tight spacing of activities, the Festival may regulate and play street performers so that they do not interfere with Festival programs or lines.

FESTIVAL ARTWORK

The Red Salish Crab was designed by local Native American Artist John Goodwin. Nytom — “he who walks around” — is the adult Indian name of the artist John Goodwin. He has roots in Neah Bay, home of the Makah people, located in the northwestern corner of Washington. Nytom expresses his creativity in different mediums of West Coast native art, including painting drums and cedar boxes, limited edition serigraphs, textile printing, jewelry, wood carving and glass etching. The copper “Welcome Crab” was created by Clark Mundy. The Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival logo was designed by Cory Ench.

A very special thanks to all of the volunteers who make the Crab Festival special every year! In memory of Irv Walden: CrabFest Beer Captain Irv Walden was a gentle man, who appreciated all of the scenic splendors of the Pacific Northwest. Irv was a veteran, a coach and a teacher. He was the Beer Captain at CrabFest for many years, entertaining all with suds and stories. Irv died Aug. 15, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Irv leaves us with a twinkle in his eye and blessings of friendship on all of us who knew and admired him, our Beer Captain, a legacy of love and laughter.

We hope to see you next year at the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival. www.crabfestival.org Save the date — Oct. 5-7, 2018 DUNGENESS CRAB & SEAFOOD FESTIVAL 2017
