Pope, S’Klallam negotiating easement Tribe’s presence on old mill site could be reestablished By RICHARD WALKER

PORT GAMBLE — Emotionally, the moment was impactful.

Representatives of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and Pope Resources stood on the old mill site on July 23 to bless the begin-

ning of the final cleanup of the site and the nearshore. And then, an ancestral song was sung and the S’Klallam language was spoken, here

at this place the grandparents’ grandparents knew as Teekalet. And what was past was made present. “For me, it was a breath of fresh air,” Port Gamble S’Klallam Chairman Jeromy Sullivan recalled on

Jan. 25. “Most people in my generation have learned more about where we were, and how we ended up on the reservation side [of the bay]. We’ve learned about the Port Gamble mill site.

KINGSTON — The community contributed just over $59,000 to ShareNet’s 2015 Neighbor Aid campaign. That’s $2,000 more than the 2014 campaign and equals about a third of ShareNet’s annual budget. POULSBO — The Kingston Buccaneers boys swim team won the

Olympic League title Jan. 21, defeating the North Kitsap Vikings 93-77 to maintain a perfect regular-season record. The showdown between

two of the best swim teams in the state took place at the North Kitsap Community Pool, the home pool for both teams. The first event for the evening, the 200 medley, produced a state tournament-qualifying time. The Kingston medley team of Tim Gallagher, Nolan Platz, Hunter Parini and Quincy
