‘Star Wars’ setting records at Kingston’s Firehouse Theatre

Fund almost halfway to year’s goal POULSBO — A week of individual donations totalling $2,750 boosted the Poulsbo Lions Raab Foundation Bellringer Fund total to $14,775 by morning Dec. 22, edging the fund to the halfway mark in this year’s fundraising goal of $30,000. Annually, the fund helps more than 300 local households, fund manager John MacDonald, CPA, said. MacDonald hopes the goal can be exceeded so the fund can meet more needs in the community.

hose who know leukemia survivor Bobby Schmidt’s story know the significance of the number 4 on his North Kitsap Vikings football jersey. That number belonged to a childhood friend, Darrion Lewis, right, who died at age 8 from complications related to a heart condition. Schmidt, above, wore that number throughout his school playing career as a tribute to his friend — and as a symbol of his ambition to help others fight childhood diseases. POULSBO — Craig Smith has owned the Firehouse Theatre in Kingston for six years. During that time, he’s sold out some premieres and special showings, but never a regularly scheduled showing. “We never really sell out,” Smith said. Until, that is, he began showing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” On Dec. 21, the Firehouse sold out its 3:30 p.m. showing of the latest “Star Wars” installment. “I haven’t felt this relevant since I opened the place,” Smith joked.
