Posted online Weds., Dec. 2 Photos Courtesy McGranahan Architects For the second time this year, McGranahan Architects has received top industry honors for its work designing Clover Park Technical College's Health Sciences Building (pictured). The Tacoma-based architecture firm received a Merit Award as part of the 2015 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Southwest Washington Design Awards, which celebrate the best architectural designs available and recognize projects that represent the finest standards in sustainability, innovation, building performance, and overall integration with clients and the surrounding community. Clover Park Technical College officials dedicated the $24 million, 56,468-square-foot stateof-the-art LEED Gold Certified facility on Sept. 20, 2013 (see "Clover Park Tech to unveil new health sciences facility," Tacoma Daily Index, Sept. 12, 2013). The Health Sciences Building serves approximately 1,100 students per year, and houses the college's 11 health sciences pro-
grams. The design includes laboratories, classrooms, and spaces that simulate current health care facilities. Clover Park Technical College's Health Sciences Building, located at 4500 Steilacoom Boulevard, in Lakewood, includes a number of sustainable design features, including water-efficient landscaping, a rooftop garden with medicinal plants, staircases and structures built from recycled materials, and solar panels covering approximately a third of the roof. "McGranahan Architects is honored to share
this design award with Clover Park Technical College and the state of Washington for the new Health Sciences Facility," said McGranahan Architects principal Matthew Lane. "We're proud of our work together to support the region's expanding nursing and health sciences fields, reinforce Clover Park Technical College's outstanding programs, and strengthen the transformation of the campus.
